You're retarded.Footwedge;1150212 wrote:Century: By definition...based on 100 years. Not 25 years.

There you go LPS.... etymology is your friend if you want it to be.:laugh:
Any questions?
Here's an example for you from a math site, maybe it'll help you understand.
Formula:
To find the percentile rank of a score, x, out of a set of n scores, where x is included:
Where B = number of scores below x
E = number of scores equal to x
n = number of scores
Example: If Jason graduated 25[SUP]th [/SUP]out of a class of 150 students, then 125 students were ranked below Jason. Jason's percentile rank would be:
Jason's standing in the class at the 84[SUP]th [/SUP]percentile is as higher or higher than 84% of the graduates. Good job, Jason! -

LOLOLOL.
Etymology....for cent, percentage, percentile, century. From Latin....Centum...meaning hundred. Need a link?
So...if Pomeranz is ranked the 6th best prospect, out of 100 pitching prospects, his percentile would be what? 4th grade math we're talking here folks. Take you time Hoops....use your slide rule and check it twice.
Maybe you should go to law school, no? -

You're confusing percentile with percentage. It's not the same thing. How in the hell do you not understand this? Either you're retarded, or you're trolling.Footwedge;1150223 wrote:

I seriously want to know how foolish you actually are... Footwedge, answer this... If Pom was rated 6th out of 100 prospects then what's his percentile -

No...it is you that are confusing percentage from percentile...not me. Now listen very carefully. Percentages are based on a ratio in decimals. Percentiles...By definition are based on lots of hundreds. I didn't wrie the dictionary...Webster did.hoops23;1150228 wrote:You're confusing percentile with percentage. It's not the same thing. As for you question, one can either say the following and be accurate...
1. Pomeranz is in the 94th percentile.....or
2. Pomeranz is in the top 6 percentile.
They say the exact same thing and are used interchangeably all the time.
And spare me with your "trolling" nonsense. Trolls don't educate the ignorant, -

Yeah, I commented on that lineup before the game...and thought WTF? Tomorrow's a day off, and it's not like they have been playing 13 games/days in a row. You send your struggling 'Ace' out there with 4 non-regulars to back him up. Do you think he might feel like he has to overpitch...be too fine?Acta rested a few starters and it showed.
Pitching is all about consistency and mental toughness. I'm not seeing it in Masterson....not enough to annoint him the #1 on the staff. Your #1 is the guy who gives you the best chance to win night after night....right now, that's not him. -
Laley23They are "based" off of 100, yes. Doesnt mean it has to be a group of 100(n) each and every time. So if he is 6th best of 25, yes...stretch it to 100 he is going to be 6th best of 100. But you dont HAVE to have 100 to find a percentile. Because it is based on 100, you multiply the decimal you get by 100. So if the Pomeranz rank was out of only 25 pitchers, he is in the 78th percentile for that group. Based off 100, but you dont need a study of 100 to find the percentile. If you needed "N" to be 100 to find a percentile, you would have literally no percentiles.

And I'd also like to see where Drew was ranked 6th on ANY prospect rankings. Most I saw had him at around 30th coming into the season.
And here's a link to BBA's 2012 prospect rankings.. Pom is right at 30 on this one.

With the superior intellect around these parts, I usually find one pretty quickly. -
hoops23Also, why did so many of our best players have the day off today? The team is off tomorrow as it is??
-
grodtThey said during the broadcast that Manny wanted them to have 2 days off to recharge. I haven't been a fan of these games where our entire bench plays at once. I'd much rather have them sprinkled in.

Yeah, I mean I get giving some guys the day off here and there, but not all at once. You're basically giving up a winnable game.grodt;1150268 wrote:They said during the broadcast that Manny wanted them to have 2 days off to recharge. I'm sure Masterson loved going out there with the "C+" line up knowing he had to be damn near perfect.
We've had a decent amount of days off as it is... Just don't get it. -
grodtDefinitely. After how many games last year that he got little run support, I'm sure he was thrilled to see Lopez, Cunningham, Donald, Marson at the bottom of the lineup.

I followed you until the bolded part. To that I say...Wut? Did you not read anything that I posted? The author listed his top 25 oitching prospects. From the very start, I said that the author also has numbers 26 through 100 just not in print...as in N=100.Laley23;1150250 wrote:They are "based" off of 100, yes. The argument was not about prospects....it was about pitching prospects. Big difference. And he was ranked anywhere fron 6th to 14th depending on who was writing.hoops23;1150251 wrote:Thank you.

Im not really speaking about this scenario, just general. I mean, he had a top 25 (Pom 78th percentile), he had a top 100 (Pom 95th percentile), he probably had a top 789 (Pom 99th percentile). Where do you stop and have a cut-off? For the printed numbers the author used, he used top 25. For that, Pom is 78th percentile.Footwedge;1150279 wrote:I followed you until the bolded part. My bolded part was just saying you can have a percentile with any number of (n). It doesnt have to be 100. Thats the whole reason for the formula. -
