Holmgren in Cleveland

  • SQ_Crazies
Did I just hear what I think I just heard? That he is in Cleveland--and he "won't be the coach or GM, but will have final say in who is"...whaaaat? LOL, does that mean they're hiring him to some position? Or just using him as an advisor?

Probably paying him a ton of money to be a "consultant".

He has not been in any way hired yet. I hope Holmgren isn't using Cleveland as leverage in negotiations to go back to Seattle. As a Cleveland Browns fan, you can only think negatively. (Other than beating the Steelers)

I'm pretty sure the Cowboys did this kind of thing last year and it ended oddly, but I forget the guys name. On the tip of my tongue. I think old Falcons coach, maybe Rams too.

He has not been hired, but is in Cleveland.

I would find it odd to be hired as a consultant. As a consultant, it would seem to me that you are less accountable than if you were actually hired to a position in the organization. It's ALMOST a license to steal..............money, that is. Hopefully, the Browns do the right thing and hire a guy who loves the Browns, loves Cleveland, and puts his heart into the job.

Guess he's going the Parcells route

Dan Reeves. He got a million dollars to walk the halls of the cowboy offices for a couple weeks.

He has been in Cleveland since yesterday and is still having meetings today for the football operations position. It seems like Holmgren is pretty serious about coming to Cleveland and working on the "project".

My source said he is in town to visit the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Translation ----- he is about to be hired.

Lerner wants to hire a President of Football Operations or "czar" position that would direct all football-related activities, including the hiring of a new GM, who would then make decisions related to the draft and coaching. Of course if you're the President, you'd also have a heavy hand in decisions related to the football team.

What about hiring an experienced a respected man like Holmgren is a bad idea? I think this team has lacked direction from an experienced football man on down since it came back.

This is exactly what the franchise needs to finally turn things around. Now, will Holmgren get the job done if he's hired? I don't know. But it sure as hell beats anything else they've tried to do up to this point.

I'll echo I hope he isn't using us to get the ball rolling back home in Seattle. It would be nice to have him come in for the last few games to start evaluating what we have now. Whoever comes in to the organization I hope they keep Mangini and Rob Ryan, Daboll should be using these last few games to show he deserves to stay. Having Holmgren then Mangini/Weis/Ryan sounds like a good start to turn things around, although Weis is probably a pipe dream.

This is good news. I don't think he is using this as leverage to get the Seahawk job. He is looking at it from a challenge point of view, and that intrigues him. And we all know what a challenge it will be turning this team around.

as a season ticket holder, this would be amazing, if we could land holgrem. hes a credible person and has a natural eye for NFL talent. i really hope he isn't using cleveland as leverage for seattle. but this is cleveland and nothing positive ever happens here so he will probably walk. but if santa came early and he is hired look for mangini to be fired.

Not to rain on your parade Brown fans, but what has Holmgren done to deserve the God title. I hope hes not still crying over the beating the Steelers gave him in the superbowl.

That was the biggest joke of a Super Bowl win in the history of the game.

And don't be a hater. It reeks of jealousy.

We need to keep Mangini and Rob Ryan.

Other than that, I'm all for Holmgren.

    Agreed.

Lerner wont hire Weiss. With him and Ryan on the same staff the food budget would be way over the top.

Oh man, we have a real comedian on board now... Holy shit this guy is hilarious!
  • Gobuckeyes1
I would like to see Mangini get another year, and I would REALLY like to see Rob Ryan stay...

But if Holmgren is hired and decides to clean house, I'm OK with that. Holmgren's football resume is ten times better than anyone else in the organization right now. I would trust his judgment over Lerner and Mangini at this point.

    I've seen a lot funnier........

I'd say it's a good sign when Holmgren's agent (LaMonte..I think) is now in Berea. ESPN stated that Holmgren only pulls him in the deal, when they are trying to hash out a final contract. God damn, this could be a decent Christmas after all.
  • devil1197
Yeah his agent being there is a great thing imo.
