Holmgren in Cleveland
-
hangonsloopyMy friend who listened to it said Holmgren said he was coming to Cleveland. Of course I didn't hear it so it's basically the whole "my friend heard it here deal", so take it for what it's worth.

devil1197They stated it on Sirius NFL this morning.

I don't go starting rumors Keebler, nice try.
He sounded like he truly wants the job on his radio show today. When he was in town he was looking at houses and everything. -
devil1197Here is a breakdown I found on another site of the radio show.
* Got in Mon. Spent Tues with Lerner. Checked out houses and different things on Tuesday. Flew back to Arizona on Wednesday. No money talk. Getting to know each other better. Great people, great owner, great trip. Lot of work to do but gained a lot of info.
* Pretty good feeling when left. Lot of dealings w/ Lerner, honest man and good guy. Liked everything he heard. Real good chance there.
* (in regards to what position he'd hold) Would be "any and all" situation. Thinking about current set-up. Time table working on. Wanted time to think about it and talk to some people.
* (timetable for decision) Sooner than later. Fairness to Browns you have to that. If they approached you and have had these talks, earlier than most, in fairness have to make decision and let them know. Exactly is unkown but sooner than later.
* (about Mangini) Unfair to talk too much about Mangini. Good coach, bright guy, works hard. Have to see. When responsible for HC, in fairness to everybody you better give everyone a chance. There are situations when you make after one year but having been a coach that's not fair to judge on one year. But those type of decisions are not fair and are tough and sometimes you have to make them.
* Lerner deserves an answer quick. Feels it would be right thing to do. Wonderful opp. as good of a job situation you could ask for.
* Never analyzed what is in place, salary cap, roster, etc.. Looks at who wants him. If it needs fixing then will do it. Rebuilding is in blood. Will look at jobs different then someone else. Biggest attract for CLE so far is ownership. Lerner would like his team to succeed for the city. Genuine guy and very impressed by talking to him. QBs, other stuff, would like a little better when work but they really are distance second, thirds and fourths. Good job with a lot of resp. and no layers between him and Lerner. Really appealing to him in that aspect.
* Haven't watched Quinn much. Browns think the world of him. DA had really good game couple years ago against SEA. If you have two guys, then it becomes hard for QBs and for team. Not what's right for team and that's what we've done. By third year if a guy has played and played in one system then you know what you have. BQ hasn't even come close to this point. He would have to learn a lot more and study to make any good answer.
* Really talking about how this impacts his family. He will make decision but has to involved his wife. She realizes he wants to work again.
* Has been contacted by other teams in the NFL. Doesn't want to talk about who they are.
* Haven't been told it won't happen for him in Seattle. But who knows. Very sure SEA wants to go through a process to hire someone. No one has come to him to say that he couldn't or wouldn't be. Not to say he will be though.
* No discouraging signs from SEA but there is a time crunch involved with CLE and some other people. He was hoping for a few more positive signs from Seattle.
* Doesn't like word "czar" and doesn't like that people have said he "campaigned" for Seattle job. Would love to be considered for a Seattle GM job considering everything that has happened there. But he is a big boy and organizations make decisions and have to move on and live with them. Lots of decisions out his hands. Don't regret saying he would like being with Seattle. Have said it would be great to be 49ers over the years too.
* If in NFL business you have to realize its a business and may be disappointed as far as wanting to go into certain situations, i.e. - Seattle GM job. If Seattle wants to go different direction then that's fine, good for them. But there's still some time. You can't let it affect you. He wants to work next year and just have to let the chips fall where they may. -

excellent job providing a source...that's great news!hangonsloopy wrote: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4754555
And it sounds like he's going to give Mangini a chance and I like that! -
alwaysafanThe Browns just need to do this the right way. I was dumb-founded when Mangini was picked before Kokinis. How many dumb decisions can an organization make? There is just going to be a team-wide mistrust and incoherence if you cannot even go about picking the coach and GM the right way. Hopefully, Holmgren can bring in some continuity, coherence, and DIRECTION to an organization that sadly sadly needs it.

Amen...The Browns should model themselves off the Cavs. The Cavs are a professional organization and know how to do it right. Dan Gilbert understands how to run a business and thats why the cavs organization is so solid.alwaysafan wrote: The Browns just need to do this the right way. Lerner should higher a leader who will then make the decisions(the Cavs' Danny Ferry). His role would be to hire and fire coaches. Now don't fire both the coach and GM at the same time. If one coach doesn't work, let the GM hire another coach. The constant GM will allow the organization to have some direction.
Now hopefully Holmgren will get this opportunity and let him hire GM's and coaches. This will hopefully create a solid, professional organization, which will eventually lead to a good product onto the field.
Hiring a coach before a GM, what a bonehead decision that was. -

NFC West blog
ESPN.com's Mike Sando writes about all things NFC West in his division blog.

Holmgren, who has also interviewed with the Cleveland Browns for their director of football operations position, met with members of the Seahawks staff, including CEO Tod Leiweke.
"I sincerely thank Paul Allen and Tod for all their support over the years," Holmgren said in a statement. "I thank them for reaching out to me and we conclude these discussions as friends."
The 61-year-old Holmgren won a Super Bowl with the Packers and led the Seahawks to their only Super Bowl appearance as a head coach.
Leiweke said the team met with Holmgren after becoming aware of the time he spent with the Browns and the "associated time pressures" from that situation.
"We hold Mike in high regard and wish the Holmgren family the very best with their new horizons," Leiweke said.
It is presumed the Browns offered Holmgren the job during his visit and it appears he is weighing his options, which could include several other teams in the days and weeks ahead.
Jim Donovan, the Browns' play-by-play announcer, reported Wednesday night that Cleveland's offer to Holmgren is for between $8 million and $10 million per season.

Great job finding a source. It appears as if Holmgren is really coming to Cleveland. I hope 'sooner' really means sooner...as in within the next week.LTrain23 wrote: Holmgren turns down offer from Seattle:

Agreed. We need him on the job evaluating personnel and coaches for a couple games, with actual game week preparations, so he can get the best information before making decisions.pkebker wrote:
