The fact that he came out of the game is big. Phillies are in trouble.

And the Nats are going to sell tons of Harper jerseys.
  • Ironman92
Harper makes the hardest swing ever on Livan Hernandez and fouls it back and the wily Hernandez throws a 63 mph curveball and makes him look like Ichiro having a seizure in striking out...then Livan gave him a little stare.

Way better than how Hamels welcomed him to the league.

Jason Heyward's Gold Glove is not in the mail.
  • Ironman92
    Gio is a beast.

33 year old Carlos Maldonado making his debut after 17 years in the minors....good stuff.

They sent him out to pinch run for the injured catcher and I thought it was one of the bench coaches coming out.

And just like Hamels....the son of a gun won the battle. His next AB he just mashes a HR to RCF.

    This kid has "it"

You are right....maybe I heard the story wrong on SNB. He has 3 other sips if coffee accumulating 10 career hits in 28 games.

Steven Strasburg, Gio Gonzales, Jordan Zimmerman.

    Plus Bryce Harper.

The Nats are going to be a force for YEARS. What a young nucleus they've built.

Can't wait to watch the Nationals/Reds battles in the NLCS over the next few years. :)

I give the Nats the edge.

They've also been incredibly lucky. Draft picks in MLB flame out so often that it is often hard to consistently hit.

To have your back to back #1's end up being the years there is a once in a generation caliber pitcher, and then hitter (Strasburg and then Harper) is a massive stroke of good fortune. To have both of them have panned out and in the line-up contributing this quickly is almost unheard of.

They are set though for sure. The big hurdle they will eventually run into is the "how can they pay all of them" situation because both Harper and Strasburg are Boras clients. If they pan out as expected, he will be looking for probably record setting deals for both considering how young each will be when they get through their 6 years of service time until free agency.

I don't think the Nats keep both or possibly even one of them with the amount they'll command... But until then, the Nats are going to be good. Of course, baseball is strange. Anything can happen and probably will regarding to them fully contributing every year.

Harper is the one I could just seeing commanding an insane contract in Boras land. He'll be 25 entering free agency when it happens.

If he is what he appears to be, I can't even fathom the amount of money/years it will take for a guy like that. 30-32 year olds have been getting 10 year deals for 200+ million. What do you do with a 25 year old entering what is theoretically his prime? It will be unreal.

If the Nats are good, they might have the money to keep these guys. They arent small market.

14Ks through 6IP for Chris Sale. Sox up 2-1 on TB.

Adam Dunn just hit a line drive HR off of tough lefty Matt Moore off of the scoreboard in Tampa

95 pitches will give him at most 2 more innings.....would like to see 17+.....always good
  • Laley23
Moore also has 10 Ks through 7.0 IP. Lots of Ks in St. Pete today.
  • Ironman92
Curtis Granderson has 510 career RBI....but is 9th in career RBI on his team!

    Swisher
    Cano
    Chavez
    Teixeira
    Ibanez
    Jeter
    Jones
    Arod

Just traded Granderson, Strasburg and Cozart for Verlander, Bautista and Altuve. Dude is a huge Yankees fan and loves Granderson but now I've got the best pitcher for a guy that the Nats won't let pass 200 IP, Altuve has torn it up at 2nd and I have Asdrubal and Bautista is now starting to heat up. Should win my league

Just heard during the Braves' game Roy Halladay is out for 6-8 weeks with a pulled lat?
