NFL Attendance

agreed. i still have no idea why the indians don't draw more - going to games is much more enjoyable than watching them on tv but its the complete opposite with the nfl. i hate the live-action experience of the nfl - feels like a process more than actual enjoyment. the bengals situation sucks but i'm not going to blame anyone for staying home instead of going to the game. it's just a much better experienceTerry_Tate;1027126 wrote:Also, Cleveland fans who root for the Indians and rip on Bengals fans are hypocrites IMO. It might be unfair to compare different sports, but Cleveland has struggled with attendance for the Indians as well and complain about their ownership. It's a similar situation albeit with difference sports. I'm not taking away from the Bengals attendance issues as they are a joke, but to act like Cleveland fans are the most loyal fans ever is ridiculous, even though they obviously support the Browns no matter what, which I applaud. -

I think so but that has nothing to do with my point. It seems there is an assumption that people have the responsibility to support through attendance a local franchise. I disagree with that. I think the franchise has a business responsibility to attract customers so if they are a playoff contender and people aren't coming then they have further issues with their product.like_that;1026991 wrote:Being in playoff contention isn't a good enough reason to attend?

What am I talking about? I am talking about the perception that a fan base has a responsibility to support a pro franchise.Laley23;1027038 wrote:Lol, WTF are talking about Con? Do you follow sports. Cincy has a chance, in week 17, to make the playoffs. Do you need the #1 seed locked up to give the fans a reason attend a game?
Do I follow sports? Uh, yeah. Why ? My comments were more market based than sports based.
Do I need a team to lock up the number #1 seed to attend? No, I don't but then again we aren't talking about me. -

lol im surprised this post hasnt gotten more attention. Sooo, because Lions fans are finally showing up for the first time in a LONG ASS TIME you think they are any better than the bengals fans? Both are equally horrible.Classyposter58;1026953 wrote:I'm sick of the whole, "We've been so bad for awhile that it'll take time to get people in the stadium" excuse. They went to the playoffs in 2005 and 2009, much better than the Lions who haven't been there since 1999. Lets face it Cincy just isn't a great sports town -

As I have said before, every bandwagon fan has a story. Thanks for proving me right. Congrats. "Now goo fuck yourself," boohoo someone hurt my feelings, because they questioned my fanhood. Speaking of which...GoPens;1027102 wrote:You're entitled to your opinion, as asinine as I think it is, but again, using an invisible state line to determine who you must be a fan of is just plain stupid. I'm closer to Pittsburgh than Cleveland. What is so hard about that to understand? I'm not a redneck, not weak minded and would be a fan even if Pittsburgh teams had a record of mediocrity and downright shittiness like Cleveland. If because of all that you say I'm not a real fan then you're full of shit. I love those who use the state line argument. If that's the case, then everyone who lives in NYC MUST be a fan of the Buffalo Bills, not the New Jersey Giants and Jets. Am I supposed to be a Columbus Blue Jacket fan instead of a Penguin fan just because they're in Ohio even though they're 3 hours away vs. 1 hour away?
I'm a fan of all professional teams in Pittsburgh (yes, even the Pirates) and have been all my life. My first professional game was a Pirates game when I was 7. Willie Stargell hit an upper deck homer at 3-Rivers and he was my favorite player of all time (still is). One of my earliest memories is sitting in the back seat of our car, driving through the Fort Pitt tunnel and seeing the city appear before my eyes. It stuck with me.
If that makes me a redneck bandwagoner, then go fuck yourself.
There's the typical story you were looking for. I'm sure it's very similar as to why you're a fan of whoever you are a fan of.
Sorry, I just call it like it is. (And no, I'm not butt hurt, but I am laughing my ass off on why people like you keep spewing the same bandwagoner shit. But as we all know, it's because those who yell "bandwagon" usually like teams that suck year in and year out. It allows those people to take on the martyr role or we're the "real fans" role because we still love our team even though they're horrible. And I say that as a "bandwagon" Pirate fan.)
Now cue more typical, witty bandwagon shit on us please...

Now cue the "cue the", "fail," "QQ" somehow being (not so) cleverly incorporated into our names, "smug," "POS," "bandwagon," "redneck," "frontrunner," "inbred," " shitsburgh" comments being included in the next response. Oh, almost forgot the obligatory "not surprised that went over your head" retort. -
DeyDurkie5this thread is awesome...like people with two inches justifying their cock size...all you need to know is the browns have the best fans in the land, and the bengals have the worst. not only do they have the worst fans, they have the worst professional sports team in the country. smh..
also, "go fuck yourself" is my phrase. I'd appreciate it if you stuck with stealing dlazz's "hope this helps" or gingers/like that's "QQfail" -

That gets a bit dicey though also. Im an Indianapolis fan first and foremost. But I am a huge Red Wings fan and huge Tribe fan. Indy doesnt have those sports. Then I follow the Browns really close but nowhere near the Colts. Born in Ft. Wayne, raised in Toledo. Got all the Browns coverage every week, so it was just natural to follow them and hope they do well. Similar to if I moved to San Fran I would adopt those teams to hope they do well and would know all about them, but they wouldnt ever replace my childhood teams.2kool4skool;1027135 wrote:As long as you stick to one city for all sports, it's not too bad. It's the Steelers/Yankees, Cowboys/Lakers, etc. combinations that make you a low life.
This includes people that are Duke Basketball/OSU football fans and other college combos too. -

The comment in itself was ridiculous though. We are talking about the Bengals. The Team has done their part...Con_Alma;1027171 wrote:What am I talking about? I am talking about the perception that a fan base has a responsibility to support a pro franchise.

Apparently not enough to attract people into the stadium. Isn't "their part" to create revenue through entertainment?Laley23;1027228 wrote:.... The Team has done their part... -

Well in that case I agree.Con_Alma;1027230 wrote:You might have been talking about the Bengals. I was asking a specific question as an expansion of the topic.
In this case, thats just asinine. What more can they do than be playing for a playoff spot the last week. Thats better entertainment than already being in and not having as much to play for.Con_Alma;1027231 wrote:Apparently not enough to attract people into the stadium. Maybe they are selling in the wrong market. Maybe they longevity or lack thereof of their product is the issue as opposed to their league standings. Maybe their style of play is boring to the marketplace. Maybe the personality of the team isn't appealing to the local market.Laley23;1027234 wrote:Well in that case I agree.

I don't know...but then again I don't have to know because it's not my product and I'm not selling it.
You make it sound like if they win the people of Cincinnati have some obligation to give them money. It doesn't work that way. It's like saying the best film at the Sundance Festival this year should be the highest grossing in the box office. It won't necessarily be if people aren't entertained by it.
It's really that simple. -

you support your team to win. the fact they are winning and have a chance to clinch the playoffs, against a division rival is enough as it is to warrant getting a full stadium. what do you want con alma, jackie moon antics at these games?Laley23;1027234 wrote:Well in that case I agree.

I'm not a Cincinatti fan so it doesn't matter but to suggest people are obligated to go is nuts. People should go if they like what they see. There's really no other reason. -
DeyDurkie5
I'm not saying it isn't. For the most part, I would say fans go to the games because a. they want to see their team win and b. like to tailgate/hang out with friends/socialize/etc. the fact that they are winning and can clinch a playoff birth is something that knocks out both of those points in one. What does entertainment stand for when it comes to football? Winning and seeing your team play well. and bengals are doing both.Con_Alma;1027239 wrote:I don't want anything but entertainment from an NFL team.

Only the potential people of Cincinnati can answer this. What you and I think is irrelevant. The people decide with their wallets and the people of Cincinnati are saying not thanks. Maybe other sports entertainment dollars are winning out. It just isn't as easy as saying that they are winning and the people should go.DeyDurkie5;1027254 wrote:I...What does entertainment stand for when it comes to football? exactly. which is the whole point we are making. from an outsider persepective, the cinci fans are retarded and awful to not be supporting a winner on the field. If they want to bitch about the front office, then go ahead and do it. still doesn't take away from our reasoning from the outiside looking in.Con_Alma;1027257 wrote:Only the potential people of Cincinnati can answer this. we wil just agree to disagree with this one...your idea seems to be entertainment should be given. winning is entertainment and the only thing that matters in the nfl. therefore they should be able to fill the seats with that given entertainment.Con_Alma;1027265 wrote:They aren't retarded if they don't like the product.
