No truly good free agents came to Cleveland to play w/ LBJ. Not saying it won't happen this time around, but I wouldn't count on it. This team needs 2 wings badly. Maybe they can add 1 starter through free agency, but they will need to add 1 high quality player through the draft. They also could use a starting center allowing AV to slide back to his more natural super back-up role, which will be very difficult to find in free agency.bases_loaded;1050640 wrote:In which case they are closer to being back and ahead of schedule. For this to be true Kyrie will have to play at all star level all year. If that happens players will want to come play with him and the Cavs can get a few pieces via FA -

The Michael Redd story should tell us all we need to know about LBJ and free agents. -

Whether he actively "recruited" free agents or not, the Cavaliers have never been a desirable destination for good to elite NBA free agents. I can't see the Cavs getting back to championship contention without another top pick (unless they get very lucky and strike gold with a pick in the teens).bases_loaded;1050702 wrote:The Michael Redd story should tell us all we need to know about LBJ and free agents. -
lhslep134Drove up to Phoenix to catch this game, came away impressed once again by how good Kyrie is already. Also, this was my first time seeing Nash in person, and this guy is still a top 5 point guard, he's unreal.
I'm still not sure I like all of this winning, I mean I guess making the playoffs would be nice, but I'd much rather have a top 10 pick than lose in the 1st round. -
MulvaThe Cavs were 5-5 through 10 games last year too. Detroit is 2-9, Charlotte is 2-9, New Jersey is 2-9, Minnesota is 3-7. It's nice to show improvement, and this team is obviously well ahead of last season, but I'm still pretty confident the losses will be coming. Not a bottom 5 record, but still bottom 10.
Look at the schedule coming up between January 20 and February 17. 15 game stretch that includes games against the top 7 current teams in the East (Miami 3 times), 2 more against Boston who will probably be there in the end, Dallas, and the Clippers. A lot tougher sledding coming up. -
Heretic
Yeah. I'd noticed their schedule was loaded with weak teams early on (or at least teams that weren't getting preseason press), so I figured they'd have to have a murderer's row period of games coming up at some time. Still, when you're playing as many young guys as they are, that has to be nice. Give them some confidence entering those games because they've at least been competitive in the early going.Mulva;1051115 wrote:The Cavs were 5-5 through 10 games last year too. I agree. I still feel like the losses are going to start piling up. The production they are getting from their starting wings is atrocious. G and Gibson do a nice job off the bench, but the Jewish connection in the starting line-up is as poor as it gets. Playing those 2 guys extended minutes together will make sure the Cavs end up on the losing end more often than not.Mulva;1051115 wrote:The Cavs were 5-5 through 10 games last year too. bases_loadedJeff Phelps broke down the NBA teams today. The NBA is full of average and bad teams. There isn't a huge difference between a 7/8 seed and the worst team in the league. If these guys are going to insist on playing hard every night, the Cavs might be more of a 7/8 than a top 5 pick

hoops23The Cavs weren't as bad as their record indicated last season, but they lost Andy for the year, Mo was traded, and obviously it was a team built around LeBron that had to adapt to playing without him.
Now that Andy is healthy and the Cavs have a legit scorer and distributor in Kyrie, the team is much improved. Definitely not worst team in the NBA and probably not in the worst 4 or 5... However, that's where the lottery comes into play as they don't have to have the worst record.
I don't think they are quite a playoff team yet, but they may contend for the 8th seed in the horrid east. Granted, they could suffer a few rough stretches when the SOS revs up soon.
I'd like to add that having two lottery picks and seemingly nailing on both of them has definitely sped the process up. Drafting is about hits or misses and it seems the Cavs have 2 big hits. -

lol, leave it to you...jordo212000;1050534 wrote:Mike Brown's career >>>> Byron Scott's career
Not exactly. Mike Brown never took a rebuild project. Byron Scott has taken on 3.
You can't look at winning % and determine which coach is better. X's and O's, it's no contest. Byron Scott trumps Brown.
Now, I don't think Mike Brown is a bad coach, but IMO, he doesn't demand the respect from the players that Scott does, nor does he have the offensive knowledge.
Scott took NJ to the finals twice. Mike Brown took the Cavs to the Finals once and failed to get over the hump/make the needed adjustments to get back, despite having the leagues best record 2 years in a row. -
hoops23Triple post!
I'd imagine the Cavs will start losing quite a bit if they're able to trade guys like Twan and Sessions... Maybe even Andy? -

What are the thoughts in trading away picks for the 2013 draft in order to get more picks for this years draft? It seems like this years draft is much deeper than next years. -

IMO, if everything goes as planned, the Cavs will probably be targeting 2013 as a year to make the postseason.
I think we only need one more lottery type player as long as we make the right choice. Kyrie and Tristan are going to be very good, Kyrie has the chance to be great.
Adding another high talent individual would give us 3 legit players. Then you begin to fill out the rest of the roster with your role players and what not...
I don't think I'd trade the 2013 pick unless it's package with something else to get us another high pick this year... I'd imagine this would be a hard deal to pull of since this draft is so deep, teams may not be willing to deal picks as easily. -

Bryon Scott has missed the Playoffs more than his teams have made it. They are both good coaches. I like what he has done with Lakers defensively and the offense will improve once they get used to the new system.
The Hornets also quit on Scott -

Plus Mike Brown is Mike Brown because he coached Baby Bron Bron.
I didn't like LA hiring when it happened and I still really don't like it.
You think Phil Jackson is Phil Jackson without great players like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant? -

Phil Jackson has won a championship. Something Mike Brown will never do.jordo212000;1051948 wrote:You think Phil Jackson is Phil Jackson without great players like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant? -

Mike Brown is essentially a "starter wife." Good fundamentally, will help you improve and will consistently get you to the playoffs. Guys like Popp, Riley & Jackson arePick6;1051962 wrote:Phil Jackson has won a championship. Something Mike Brown will never do.
"trophy wives", keepers that will get you to the promised land. I agree with your post 100%.
Brown was brought into LA, imo, because he'd had experience dealing with the temperament of a star player (Miami's #6/Judas). -

cant link the future. If Mike Brown was any sort of coach at all, he could have won a championship with the Cavs.jordo212000;1051978 wrote:Link? -

I am of the thought that head coaches get way too much credit or blame. Mike Brown's job was to stay the hell out of Lebron's way for the most part. These super teams don't respect or even listen to their coach in my opinion.Pick6;1051962 wrote:Phil Jackson has won a championship. Something Mike Brown will never do. -

Sure its relevant. Does that mean Lenny Wilkens,Bill Fitch,Mike Fratello are not any sort of coaches either because they couldn't win a Title in Cleveland?Pick6;1052017 wrote:nice irrelevant post. -

none of them had a player like Lebron James to work with.Skyhook79;1052028 wrote:Sure its relevant. Does that mean Lenny Wilkens,Bill Fitch,Mike Fratello are not any sort of coaches either because they couldn't win a Title in Cleveland?
