  Everything starts with the QB. Steve Young made a comment the other night that if Jacksonville doesn't think Gabbert is the answer, they are doing that team an injustice by not drafting another QB in the 1st round if they can get someone like Barkley.
  
  Plus with the new CBA, teams can afford to do it.

  The Jaguars actually have a threat on the offensive side of the ball with MJD. They are doing the team an injustice if they dont draft a guy like Barkley. What does that even mean? They think he will be good? Just like they thought Gabbert would be good so used a top 10 pick on him after one season. The Jags have a horrible WR Corps as well.

  Organizations need to get over the whole drafting a QB to save your franchise concept and focus on building a team around your QB. The Texans are winning games with TJ Yates lol. The Ravens and Jets are continuously competing with very average QBs.

  To throw a curveball at this conversation, could it be possible that Holmgren/Heckert surprises everyone and maybe signs a young free agent like Matt Flynn (Packers)? That might allow them to draft a developmental QB later, not burn one of their 1st rounders and still have what they deem as their "franchise" QB. Flynn has looked pretty good when he's had his opportunities. Just throwing it out there...

  No they don't. Up until Heckert came in their drafts, for the most part, were either bad luck (injuries) or abortions. Good players = good play.

  The run game is obsolete because Shurmur is a moron. Hillis was getting over 5 yards a carry last week on 1st down, then we'd throw crap passes the next time. Even an elite rb isn't going to save the team because we won't use them well. Shurmur doesn't want to focus on the run, like they did last season.

  I would be more in favor of them going out and getting a back up who has shown potential than using a high pick on an unproven talent.
  
  Lets remember though that McCoy was SUPPOSED to be a QB that was going to sit and be groomed over time.

  That was my reasoning. It doesn't HAVE to be Flynn but that is a young guy, who is a FA, that I could see as a Holmgren "project."
  
  Holmgren usually sees a young guy that he can mold (Favre, Hasselbeck) and brings them in.
  
  From what I can see, I think they are done with the Colt McCoy experiment. Guy just doesn't get you very excited moving forward. Last game he had where you thought "hey, this guy might be something" was last years' loss to the Jets. Before all of the "but he's got no weapons" guys jump on here, I know that. But he's HAD opportunities and he's done himself no favors. He looks like a career backup.

  I think another reason for McCoy (and possibly Shurmur) being done is this concussion issue. McCoy's dad did him no favors by whining to the media and saying his son has had "multiple concussions since hig school." The front office may feel that McCoy is damaged goods.

  I am tired of seeing QB after QB have no offense around them and then get blamed for it. Derek Fucking Anderson went to a pro bowl with some decent talent around him. Colt McCoy would be fine if we didn't have Stonehands as our best WR and two vaginas running the ball.

  While Dumbass had more talent around him than McCoy, he had a good 8 game stretch, thats it. After that the league figured him out and he sucked. He had tons of talent around him in Arizona (went to a SB with that talent) only to stink the joint up and get benched. He just didn't have it and had a lucky stretch of games thats it. He sucks and I'm glad that bum is gone. I'll take McCoy over him any day of the week.

  you missed my point - which is that even someone who sucks can look good if you surround them with some people that are half-way decent. We don't even know if McCoy legitimately sucks, or if it is the offense. Why don't we try and find out? McCoy hasn't looked good, but no one can definitively say what he would look like if we weren't the fucking Browns. This coaching staff and the talent is awful, but I feel he's getting too much of the blame.

  Because even if he doesn't "suck", there's plenty of evidence to determine that he's never going to be a top 10 caliber QB. If there's a QB out there that you believe could be a future all-pro, you don't not take them just because McCoy might be a serviceable starter with more talent around him.

  Exactly. This post isn't directed toward you but "what if" they decide to sit on their hands, McCoy "is who a lot of us thought he is", and a Barkley or RG3 goes on to light it up and take their team to the Super Bowl?
  
  The QB talent is in THIS draft. I can't remember who said it but I saw a comment to the effect of "there's a franchise QB in EVERY draft." No, there isn't.
  
  If you have the chance to significantly upgrade the position without selling the farm, you do it.
  
  If I have to watch another season of McCoy waiting too long to throw the ball so the defender has time to recover (see pass to Norwood that was almsot picked off by Gay of Pittsburgh) or underthrowing receivers that have to wait/fight for the ball, I'll pull my hair out.

  Pretty sure that ball was late because McCoy had to side step the rush.
