Pittsburgh Penguins 2011-2012 Thread

Reading some Caps boards, the feeling is that Ovi is fat and isn't worthy of wearing the "C".

Damn, how the mighty have fallen.

Just last year, his was one of the first names mentioned in the "best player in the NHL" arguments here. Now, he's being considered as not even worthy of being his team's captain by his own fans while his team is completely falling apart.

He should have never been given the "C" in the first place. After watching HBO's 24/7 last year, Laich or Knuble should be captain of that team.

Pens beat Carolina 3-2. The Pens killed off a 6-3 Hurricane PP for roughly the last minute of play. Great finish. Staal got hit in the face with a puck. Hopefully not a serious, long-term injury.

Pens got spanked by the Stanley Cup winners last night. Pretty good measuring stick and I think it showed the pens have a lot of work to do. I'd start to be concerned if I were a pens fan as Crosby is starting to show his inability to stay healthy. Any word on how his knee is doing after limping to the bench last night?

It was a stinger according to Crosby. He shouldn't miss any time. I'm not concerned about the Pens because of a 3-1 loss in December. They'll be fine.

I think the big thing is just everyone getting back on the same page. At least that's what I hope it is, considering how long they had to do it without Crosby. Just seems that since he's come back, they're in this "win one/lose one" mode where they're kinda spinning their wheels.
  • GoPens
Tough loss but not overly concerned considering half the defensemen are recent AHL call-ups due to injuries.

The Despres-Bortuzzo pairing will be one to watch in the future.

i saw on espn crosby is on pace for 102 points in 62 games...holy shit.
  • Commander of Awesome
Doubt he gets there, esp if he can't stay healthy.

Crosby looks like Patrice Bergeron out there right now. When he came back from his concussion that is.
  • GoPens
Crosby out the next 2 games as a precautionary measure.
  • End of Line
Not concussion related, he took a knee on knee hit from his own teammate.
  • GoPens
Yea, Kunitz and him collided with their knees, but there was concern about another hit in the game regarding his head. Sid also took an "impact" neurological test which thankfully came back negative.
  • stlouiedipalma
Sid "wasn't feeling good today after last night's game". I think the Pens are right to rest him. He isn't even making the trip to Philly/New York this week.
  • End of Line
    Pens get the win 6-3
  • GoPens
Good win for the Pens considering they were without Sidney Crosby, Jordan Staal, Kris Letang, Zbynek Michalek, Richard Park, Ben Lovejoy, Brian Strait, and Robert Bortuzzo.

While I love Consol, this picture is sad.

So many good memories at the Igloo.

Uh oh. Crosby out indefinitely with concussion-like symptoms.

Its a shame. He's going to end up like eric lindros.

+1. It def is a shame. I saw this coming though. Once you get that first concussion, the other concussions follow quite easily.

The problem with athletes is they're too dumb to know when to walk away. I know he's young but brain injuries can affect you for life. He's got tons of money and would probably a job with the penguins for life if he decided to walk away and preserve his health.

    This is depressing.

Not a Crosby fan...but as an NHL fan it definitely sucks. He was head and shoulders above the next best player in the league too. I hate him because he's on pittsburgh but i respect his talent.

With him out, who's the top player in the league? I think there are so many players at equal level
  • GoPens
Frankly, I'd sit him and see if he's ready to go for the playoffs.
