Pittsburgh Penguins 2011-2012 Thread

Anyone see the video of the roof collapsing at the Civic Arena? Amazing stuff but sad to see. Lots of good memories there. Interesting to see this on the day I finally got my Christmas ornament made from the aluminum roof of the arena.

With the way the pens are playing (won last 7), I'd wonder if you'd even want him coming back and rushing this. Doesn't seem like they even miss him. I suppose if the Pens are matched with Montreal Sid would want to play and get that monkey off his back.

My guess is that Sid doesn't come back until the last week or two of the season to get his legs back and be ready for the playoffs. That gives him plenty of time to be 100%. It also gives the rest of the team a few games with him to re-establish the chemistry of him being in the lineup.

That's wishful thinking on my part, but I really don't think he will rush it at all.

Sid took the ice today with both Staal and Despres. I know Sid will be out for awhile, but damn, could it be possible that some of the other walking wounded are close to returning?

Pens just had a press conference with Sid and Ray Shero. Said the neck issues was a "soft tissue" injury and could be what's causing the motion issues he's having instead of the concussion. That would be excellent news if true.

Pens win another shootout game last night to keep the streak alive!

Kinda lost track of this thread after the Super Bowl and then college basketball really got going.

Sid has been cleared for contact. Said to the media today that he's been symptom-free for a few days now. Still no timetable for his return but that's great news. The Pens have won 6 straight.
  • killer_ewok
No timetable but Sid did say today,"No sooner than Sunday." Probably not gonna happen but it's at Consol and the Pens host the Bruins on NBC's game of the week. I imagine that would be pretty cool if he was able to return on Sunday.

Honest question - What does he do if when he comes back, he takes another big hit and is out again? It seems like if he can't go a substantial amount of time without another head injury his career might be in jeopardy.

Well, he comes back and you see what happens. If what you said happens again/regularly....I would think Sid would have to take some time to think about what he's going to do and what's best for his health. The good thing for the Pens is that they're playing pretty well without him as Geno is a beast.

Sid returning and being able to stay healthy would have to make the Pens the favorites in the Eastern conference.

Do you see any harm in sitting him out until the playoffs? I doubt they catch NY and will most likely stay in 4th cause of division winners.

Honestly, because of what happened to Savard i'm skeptical on when a player should come back.

There's no real harm in sitting him until then but having a few games under his belt heading into the postseason wouldn't hurt.

There's a big difference on how they handled Crosby compared to Savard.

I think what was going on was that his neck issue was mirroring his PCS symptoms. He could be back as soon as Sunday.

I do think it's crazy in his absence ESPN and NBC haven't propped up another star. I still think it's bullshit casual fans just think of Ovie and Crosby. I don't even think Ovechkin is the best player on his own team anymore. Without Backstrom he's gone down a lot in production. I think Malkin and Crosby are two players who could thrive on any team.

Yeah, that is strange. With good marketing, the NHL could be doing a lot better as far as popularity goes, but they seem to be incapable of promoting new stars to get people to want to see them play.

Lol. I remember that. About the quickest something went from novelty to crap in my life.

    7 game win streak now.

They are hot right now. That's why I hope Sid comes back and can contribute. Last year, they had stretches like this, but when the playoffs came, they didn't have that extra gear without their stars. Having him come back at a high level could propel them a long ways.

I hope he waits until the game after boston to return - just sayin'
