And Druby limps off the field......what next?

we are now fielding half of a AAA team.
  • Glory Days
seriously, who kidnapped the real tribe and who are these guys?
  • royal_k
    Donald goes deep...5-0 Tribe.
  • BR1986FB
WTF happened here? I left the house and they were up 5-0. Come home and it's 5-4...
  • BR1986FB
Winner, winner chicken dinner...5-4 Good Guys ! FINAL
  • HitsRus
I figured once I paid for the post season package they'd go in the tank. NOT SO!

They are saying Druby has a contusion(a bad bruise) on the inner part of his knee. No word on how long he will be out (if any).

Meanwhile, reinforcements may be on their way. Both Sizemore and Kipnis could be back next week.
  • Laley23
We just have to assume Verlander will be a win for the Tigers and quit getting upset at it.

We take a W, and even though its at the expense of the Tigers winning....the Sox drop a game and we leap over them. Now in 2nd.

Kipnis I'd be excited about...Strikemore, not so much....

eh....have you watched the outfield play lately especially in CF? I want Grady's defense.

I agree with the defense but you might as well concede the out before he bats.
  • HitsRus
Maybe...but he's hitting no worse than our 'third" outfielders.
  • Mulva
I'd definitely rather see Grady out there than Zeke. Which is pretty sad.
  • hoops23
Am I missing something, what exactly is so bad about Zeke? He's made some great plays. He's botched two balls out in CF that I've seen.
  • HitsRus
There are obvious 'misplays'...and then are just those that Grady would have tracked down but he didn't. Zeke is just unpolished...both defensively and at the plate. I don't think there is any question that he'll be a great fielder someday....but that time is not now.
  • hoops23
Eh, Grady isn't the fielder he used to be. He lost some balls in CF this year as well, and then laughed about it.

And give me Zeke at the plate any day over Grady.
  • dazedconfused
the only thing i don't like about zeke is his "no homers" defense late in games when he essentially plays on the warning track
  • hoops23
Alex White had his 2nd start since joining Colorado.

    6 IP 6 BB 3 K 5 ER in a 5-1 loss to Arizona

    ERA now 7.50 with Colorado.

    What I like about Zeke:

At the plate, he doesn't try to do too much. He knows his role and the situation. When he gets to 2 strikes he chokes up and battles. Fouls off a ton of pitches and doesn't strike out nearly as much as typical rookies or Grady.

He does make every ball hit to center an adventure. He is nowhere near Gradys level defensively at this point.

I want Grady to comeback just for the outside chance he can put together a great month and help this offense. We all know what he looks like when he is hot and we could use that for the last 4 weeks.

Zeke is very raw...he is awful on the base paths and takes bad routes to the balls in the outfield. He will get better though...that stuff just takes time. I have been waiting on grady to quit striking out every other at bat for like 10 years...that will never happen.

I'm so glad college football has started--thank you, Lord!!!!

I do like his approach at the plate....it's kind of 'old school' versus what is usually taught now which is to swing HARD even with two strikes. Grady is in that philosophy(thanks Derek Shelton). Expanding that a bit...when was the last time you saw Sizemore try to bunt for a hit? Ehhhhhh....like maybe very early on in his career? A guy with his speed should take advantage of it right? (Think Kenny Lofton)...That idea was obviously squashed early by Wedge/ Shelton. I've always maintained Sizemore could add 10 to 20 points to his BA if he just used his legs. Of course, you would lose a couple of HR's....which brings us back tothe age old debate of where he should bat in the order. What we have witnessed was a leadoff guy with a power hitter's approach at the plate. No wonder why so many people wanted him moved down in the order.

Don't get me wrong, I like Zeke a lot. But the only reason he is "up' this year is because of the injuries in the OF. He needed another year of seasoning. I probably think it was in the team's plans to have him ready as Grady approached free agency. The timetable was just advanced a year.

I like Zeke. But his defense is not even close to Grady's. There is no one on this team that can play CF like Grady. Having him back will help immensely in that regard. He does strike out. He has his whole career. But if he can come back and hit like he did early in the season (extra base hits) it will be a big shot in the arm for the offense.

I agree 100%. This risk is that he comes back and sucks and strikes out all the time in which case we won't make the playoffs. Probably won't anyway. The reward would be if he could come back and put together a month. He can carry an offense when he is hot. If/when he is back he needs to be in the lineup everyday.

So excited for Strikemore to be back /sarcasm.
  • hoops23
People are talking as if Grady's defense was great this year. It wasn't. It was above average at best.

He misplayed a lot of balls. took bad angles, and dropped a few routine flyballs. He even laughed after one of them -- That's when I really soured on Grady.

Not only that, but how can yo honestly expect a guy who has done nothing all year to suddenly come back and be a force offensively? Especially after all this missed time?
