NBA lockout: David Stern suggests contraction

  • Commander of Awesome
The NBA lockout remain in play (does anyone notice) and commissioner David Stern says on an ESPN podcast that the league is seriously considering contraction.

That means the league will reduce the number of teams from 30 to probably 28.

"[Contraction] is not a subject that we're against," Stern said. "In fact, when you talk about revenue sharing, a number of teams have said that if you have a team that is perpetually going to be a recipient, aren't you better off with the ability to buy them in? Because between the revenue sharing and the split of international and the TV money, we could almost buy them in with their own money.

So who would be the candidates?

    Toronto?
    Charlotte (probably not with MJ)?
    New Orleans?
    Milwaukee?
    Minnesota?
    Golden State?
    Sacramento?

Toronto and Sac were the first two that came to my mind. Sad that toronto came to mind as I know some big Raptors fan and they have better fans than a team like Miami.

    Cleveland.

    Please do it

    New Orleans should be one.

The team was atrocious last season and still had alot of support. Unfortunately New Orleans is probably candidate #1. They should have never moved there

there were a few owners that said they would lose less money by not playing this season. If that is the case they need to contract. I would say New Orleans and Toronto.

Where is Bud Selig? IMO, all 3 need to be thrown in a cage with Tigers.

Goodell is on a power trip and Stern just comes off as a smug prick in every interview with his little grin

Other than being an idiot troll, please provide a legitimate reason on why the cavs should be eliminated. They were third in attendance last year while having the second worst record. Nice fail.
  • Commander of Awesome
Would have been the worst record if Minn didn't tank it.
  • mucalum49
New Orleans and Sacramento would be my picks. Move Milwaukee out to the Western Conference to balance them at 14 each.

He has no reason or argument as to why the Cavs should be one of these teams. He hasn't posted on here since he made that idiotic statement because he wanted to be a troll and stir the pot.

I guess I really have no reason other than I have to deal with Cleveland fans continuing to talk about how this year is going to be the year, every year, even with LeBron. Sure he made a finals but still didn't manage to seal the deal. Now they've got nobody.

The league won't shit can them because they were 3rd in attendance and makes them some money, or did at least on merchandising.

Are you fucking kidding me? Its sports, most fans of every team are going to go into the season talking about how this is "the year" especially when the Cavs had Lebron. Maybe should move to Alaska or something then nothing would bother you.

I would say Toronto and New Orleans. Let Charlotte be the Hornets again.

As dumb as it sounds there is so much animosity towards just the Bobcats name. If they changed back I think the city would really rally around the team again.
