I agree with quite a few of his overrated players on the list. Tony Gonzalez, Josh Cribbs, Tim Tebow to name a few. And I can kinda see what hes getting at with Polamalu. I dont think ehs bad, but a lot of the time they make it sound like no other safety is even close to being on his levelkiller_ewok;877736 wrote:http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/15215764/overratedunderrated-polamalu-cant-cover-packs-williams-can
Wow. Really? -
wes_mantoothTroy may be overrated because he gambles too much, but other than Ed reed...he is the best in the league.
-
Hb31187Yeah If i want a cover safety, ill take Ed Reed 10 out of 10 times. But Troy is better vs the run
-
NonThe problem with Troy is he is rarely 100 percent.
When he is 100 percent, he's at an elite level, but how many times do you get that? Maybe 5-10 games per season.
I wouldn't say he's overrated, though. He's compiled quite a list of game-changing or game-clitching plays in his career. His forced fumble against Baltimore last year basically won the Steelers the division and gave them the home playoff game against the Ravens. If they lose that game at Baltimore they probably don't make it to the Super Bowl having to go the wild card route. I'd say that's a pretty big impact. -
Heretic
And it seemed like whenever they were in a close game and needed a big defensive play, he was the one who made that play. He was their clutch guy last year.Non;878926 wrote:The problem with Troy is he is rarely 100 percent.

The Steelers wrap up their preseason tonight in Charlotte against the Carolina Panthers.
It's the last chance for players such as Donovan Warren, Tyler Grisham and John Clay to impress the coaches.
The contest doesn't figure to be as eventful for others like quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. He'll sit this one out. Veteran Charlie Batch gets the nod at quarterback but Dennis Dixon will also see plenty of reps as the two players compete for the backup role when the regular season begins Sept. 11.
Another key position battle has concluded. Doug Legursky has been named the starter at right guard, beating out Ramon Foster and Tony Hills. An undrafted free agent out of Marshall in 2008, Legursky has started four games at guard in his career and one at center (Super Bowl XLV). Legursky proved himself to the coaches with his versatility and also his intelligence. He is considered the team's best lineman at reading defenses.
These are some of the other roster battles to watch tonight:
- Jonathan Dwyer has been the Steelers most effective running back during the preseason and almost certainly has a spot locked up. John Clay has been mostly a disappointment to this point but he figures to get a longer look tonight and could land a spot on the practice squad with an impressive showing.
- Arnaz Battle and Tyler Grisham appear to be battling for the No. 6 receiver spot, if there is one. The team could decide to only keep five at that position because the numbers are crunched at other positions. If they had to choose one right now it would seem to be Battle. He's a more proven special teams performer, which is the real value for a No. 6 receiver.
- John Gilmore, Weslye Saunders and Jamie McCoy continue their competition for the No. 3 tight end role. Saunders is an athletic player from South Carolina. Big frame, good hands, but I think the Steelers are going to favor blocking in that role. If Gilmore is unable to nail it down they might look externally to fill this void.
- Curiously, Ramon Foster, last year's starter at right guard, was not given much of an opportunity to win that starting spot. And he lost it. Could he be in some trouble? The Steelers re-signed Trai Essex, who can play all five line positions, and there are two young guards, Chris Scott and Keith Williams, who have both flashed some potential.
- Keenan Lewis and Crezdon Butler both responded last week with solid performances. I think the Steelers will keep both players but I also think they like what they've seen from Donovan Warren. There is probably not a roster spot available for Warren, if they keep Lewis and Butler, so the Steelers will have to hope another team doesn't spot him before they can place him on the practice squad. -

I would say Ed Reed is the best ballhawking safety but against the run and making plays at the line of scrimmage, he's nothing special. Average at best.Hb31187;877789 wrote:Yeah If i want a cover safety, ill take Ed Reed 10 out of 10 times. But Troy is better vs the run
Polamalu, on the otherhand, is a major weapon in blitzing and disguising and supporting the run, and as a cover safety and a guy who can intercept passes and change the game or save the game he's not average in that area. He's still good for being a strong safety. Polamalu is better at his weaker area, coverage, than Reed is at his weaker area, run defense. -
NonSteelers 3-1 preseason, baby
Had to work and didn't get to see the game.
Dwyer impressive L2 move on the defensive back, going 50 yards for a TD.
