Laley23God, starting the WC Qualifying gets me so pumped. And we are 2 fucking years away lol. And we dont have the Confed Cup to tide us over next summer. Fuck. Oh well, still get pumped for those matches.
Also get nervous. I hate the thought of playing like shit and somehow not making it. -
hoops23I can really sense that Jurgen Klinsman has a plan for US soccer. This team has steadily improved with each match under his guidance. I honestly can't say te last time I saw this team so crisp on the attack. All without Dempsey too.

Best part is he has a system for ALL of the US Organizations. So the young guys are learning his style and approach as well. Everything seems to be moving forward at a good pace.hoops23;1182560 wrote:I can really sense that Jurgen Klinsman has a plan for US soccer. I cant believe some people freaked out over the first year(ish) of the Jurgen era when US was struggling. -
OSHUSMNT has Brazil on Wednesday. Game will be televised on ESPN.
I can't wait for September 11, a qualifier at Crew Stadium! I am definitely going to be there. -

7:50 pm on ESPN2 -
Laley23Its actually ESPN2.
And earlier that day (I think at like 1pm or something) they are showing Spain vs S. Korea. Spain will probably field a strong team ahead of Euros, but they may only play a half. -

Man...someone lied to me. I swear I saw a twitter update that said ESPN.Laley23;1182814 wrote:Its actually ESPN2.

Oh well, at least it's going to be on television. Nothing worse than seeing a national team game that is not getting televised -- i.e., the US v. Guatemala game which will be on PPV! -
hoops23Anybody see the leaked '12-'13 Inter Milan jerseys? There is/was a huge outcry about what Nike did to them.
The outcry is the fact that the main color is red. Inter has never had red in their uniform, much less as a primary color. Always has been some variety of Black/Blue/Gold/White... -

Figures. Stupid Nike...as I always say. I do question though, Inter probably had to "yay" or "nay" what the jersey provider did...right?hoops23;1182953 wrote:Anybody see the leaked '12-'13 Inter Milan jerseys? There is/was a huge outcry about what Nike did to them.

OSHI think Blackburn's 2012 home shirt is pure class.
I also hope this Italian company makes these available in the states...
I may have to invest in one of these for the 9/11 qualifier...
Also, does anyone own any Bumpy Pitch gear? If I had money, I would do all my shirt shopping there...that stuff is simply amazing. -

OSHAnyone going to the Crew's Open Cup game tonight?
They are hosting the Dayton Dutch Lions in the "Battle of Ohio." Game starts at 7:30pm. I will be in attendance. My first Open Cup game. -
gorocks99Seven MLS teams lost in US Open Cup play last night:
Harrisburg City over New England 3-3 (PKs)
Michigan Bucks over Chicago 3-2
Dayton Dutch over Columbus 2-1
San Antonio over Houston 1-0
Charlotte Eagles over FC Dallas 2-0
Minnesota Stars over Real Salt Lake 3-1
Carolina RailHawks over LA Galaxy 2-1

While I agree...it's not that surprising.gorocks99;1184430 wrote:Seven MLS teams lost in US Open Cup play last night:

There is not that much of a talent and competitive gap in the different leagues. The top league should always be the top league attracting the top talent...but sometimes there is a lot of talent that falls through the cracks -- being a professional is VERY political.
The biggest difference in the leagues is how fast they play -- both physical speed and game speed. Sometimes, the top tier just plays faster physically and gets them a roster spot. There's no reason why some of the players in the NASL and USLPro shouldn't be in the MLS. -
gorocks99Ticket sales are "around 60,000" for tonight's friendly at FedEx Field. Here's to hoping it's a good atmosphere, and that the men can show up and play well. Would be a great confidence boost heading into qualifying.

There is a HUGE talent gap between the starters in the MLS and the Starters in the bottom leagues.
There however, is not much of a gap between the reserves of the MLS teams and the starters of the bottom leagues
Its still enough that teams play Bunker ball (see Chelsea in the champions league) but that is sometimes very effective.
I was at the Crew game last night, and the DDL maybe had 3 shots but they scored all 3 and many of the crew players didn't seem to care much -

This. Crew played a B- lineup, and their effort sucked. Game should have been 6-0 at one point. Oh well, I really couldn't care less about the USOC....I'd rather be rested for MLS play and keep our form.ohiobucks1;1184980 wrote:There is a HUGE talent gap between the starters in the MLS and the Starters in the bottom leagues.

The talent gap isn't that "HUGE." There is with the "elite" players, but not all starters and first-teamers are "elite." That's in every sport and in every league. There is a lot of interchanging of players from MLS-NASL-USLPro...not with the "elite" players but with the reserves and/or the role players.
It was never going to be 6-0. Sorry.chicago510;1184996 wrote:This. Crew played a B- lineup, and their effort sucked. Game should have been 6-0 at one point. Oh well, I really couldn't care less about the USOC....I'd rather be rested for MLS play and keep our form.
The Crew's effort did suck, but it wasn't their whole "B-lineup." Many first-teamers were on the field: Josh Williams, Julius James (first game back from injury), Ethan Finlay, Olman Vargas, Emelio Renteria (late sub), Justin Meram, Francis and Gehrig and Anor are regulars, and even Birchall can be included in there. So, where exactly is their "B-lineup?" Gruenebaum wasn't in the goal and Renteria didn't start. Chad Marshall is hurt. Duka didn't get on the field.
It's no surprise that 2nd and 3rd division professional teams are scary to play. There were 6 other MLS teams that fell last night. It happens in every other country's "open" Cups as well. I am not shocked at lower-tier teams winning -- I am with the Dutch Lions only because they haven't scored many goals this year OR came from behind. But, good for them. They deserve it. They'll be traveling to Pontiac, Michigan to play the Michigan Bucks (a Columbus Crew affiliate). If lower-tier teams can go far in other countries' Cups, why can't we expect the same in the US in the MLS? It goes beyond playing "B-lineups" or "not caring mentalities."
Any given day to any given team. It happens more times in soccer than any other sport, in my opinion. That's part of the beauty of the game. -

Ok 6-0 may have been pushing it, but the Crew was atrocious in the final third, and to be fair was unlucky on a few shots.OSH;1185010 wrote:It was never going to be 6-0. Sorry.

This is definitely a B-lineup. I know we have injuries, but none of our 4 best players (Hammer, Marshall (hurt), Gaven and Renteria) were in the XI. Also Tchani and Miranda weren't on the squad.
I agree with you on the talent gap, its not as wide as we assume. Especially in a sport like soccer (unlike say, basketball) where the best talent doesn't always win a match.
I'm not upset about it, but Robert should be with the effort. -
AutomatikUSA/Brazil about to kick off.
Lots of positives from the Scotland game, lets keep it goin! -
