Italy being unseeded is going to create quite the group of death.
Not to mention Netherlands being unseeded as well. Going to be some very, very tough draws this year, particularly for the US. My guess is, for pots, you have:

    1) Seeded teams (8) - Brazil, Spain, Argentina, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Colombia, Uruguay
    2) UEFA teams (8) - Italy, England, Russia, Netherlands, Bosnia, 3 from playoff
    3) CONMEBOL (2: Chile, Ecuador) + Africa (5) + UEFA (1: from playoff)
    4) CONCACAF (USA, Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico/Panama) + Asia (Japan, Australia, South Korea, Iran)

Im not disagreeing, but, Im not sure there is a better way to do it. They have modified them a lot over the years, and this is the best. But it is definitely flawed, you are right.

Also, the Uruguay match had to have been a friendly... That makes it worth a lot less points also.

Im sure you have seen this, but in case you or someone else hasnt:

Calculation of points for a single match
The number of points that can be won in a match depends on the following factors:
    • Was the match won or drawn? (M)
    • How important was the match (ranging from a friendly match to a FIFA World Cup™ match)? (I)
    • How strong was the opposing team in terms of ranking position and the confederation to which they belong? (T and C)
These factors are brought together in the following formula to ascertain the total number of points (P).
    P = M x I x T x C
The following criteria apply to the calculation of points:
    M: Points for match result
Teams gain 3 points for a victory, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a defeat. In a penalty shoot-out, the winning team gains 2 points and the losing team gains 1 point.
    I: Importance of match
Friendly match (including small competitions): I = 1.0
    FIFA World Cup™ qualifier or confederation-level qualifier: I = 2.5
Confederation-level final competition or FIFA Confederations Cup: I = 3.0
    FIFA World Cup™ final competition: I = 4.0
    T: Strength of opposing team
The strength of the opponents is based on the formula: 200 – the ranking position of the opponents
As an exception to this formula, the team at the top of the ranking is always assigned the value 200 and the teams ranked 150[SUP]th[/SUP] and below are assigned a minimum value of 50. The ranking position is taken from the opponents’ ranking in the most recently published FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking.
    C: Strength of confederation
When calculating matches between teams from different confederations, the mean value of the confederations to which the two competing teams belong is used. The strength of a confederation is calculated on the basis of the number of victories by that confederation at the last three FIFA World Cup™ competitions (see following page). Their values are as follows:
    UEFA/CONMEBOL 1.00 CONCACAF 0.88
    AFC/CAF 0.86 OFC 0.85

    Its also a 4 year ranking. So current, 2010 (20%), '11 (30%, '12 (50%), this year (100%)

    Lol most people do.

I stand by my statement. Switzerland, Uruguay and I will even say Colombia do not deserve to be seeded.

Soccer by Ives has brought up Australia a couple times.

Costa Rica took a 2-1 lead on Mexico, but the US equalized at the same time. El Tri still sits in 4th for the moment.
  • Midstate01
If you're the us do you let Panama score if late in the game Mexico is still losing?? Knock out your rivals

Bob said he'd like to stay with them through the second leg, but "obviously it's not his call" (that's how he worded it).

Maybe Bob has the problem with Ghana?! Can Jurgen get us over that hump...

Bob's Egyptian squad give up a goal in the first 5 minutes, seems like he has an issue with that too.

Most recent rumor is he's gone in November -- fired...
  • Midstate01
Panama goes ahead. Mexico is out for now.
  • Laley23
    GOOOOOALLLLL Panama.

Never cheered against the USMNT until tonight 2nd half. I waited to see if it was possible for Panama to win and CR to win.

At the moment, Mexico is OUT!
  • Midstate01
Glad I'm not the only one. Everytime we almost score I'm like nooooooo, but quietly.
  • Laley23
Fuck that. Stupid Americans for trying...
  • Mulva
The U.S. scored. This telemundo broadcast is intense. ATENCION! ATENCION!
  • OSH
I kinda want Mexico in the World Cup...it's good for the game.

    WOW!
  • Midstate01
