  The #1 and an Ace are different to a lot of people. He is definitely the #1 and the Reds Ace...but is he a TRUE Ace. I would say there are really only about 10 of them in baseball....without even thinking about it.

  This. I never said he wasn't the Reds best pitcher, he clearly is.

  Yeah, like I said without thinking. 15 is probably right on. Half the teams seems about right (plus the fucking Phillies with 2).
  
  I think you also have to consider when you become an Ace? DO you have to do it for 2 years going into the 3rd to be an Ace, even if it appears obvious. Because that would eliminate guys like Kershaw and Cueto and even Price. But it would save the type of thing where Grienke was labeled an Ace. He is a great pitcher, but 1 great year doesnt make you an Ace imo. You gotta prove it over the course of 2 full seasons.

  Back to the error discussion...Grady just had one, and they gave Parra a triple. It hit his damn webbing...thats an error. I dont care that he hit it 415 feet.

  Yes, you want them to bow their neck and get out of their own situations a little earlier in the game. He had the last 4 in the order to get 3 outs, which was a very reasonable opportunity, especially after he K'd the first one on 3 pitches. So once he got to Damon after 2 of the last 3 he had faced getting on, it was the right decision to bring in Bray who has been excellent. If, after he had two strikes on Damon, he'd have gotten that fastball more in to take back more of the outside corner, he may have had more of a chance to get him out there. the first pitch after that fastball he was set-up but he made the pitch too far out to properly tempt him. Then the next one Damon got out there and blooped it in. So Bray wasn't at his sharpest, but it still was the right move to bring him in.

  Im not saying it was the wrong call. In fact, I think either decision would be correct. Im saying I PERSONALLY, would leave him in, because I would almost always leave my Ace in.

  First time on here in long time but I have a couple of thoughts on last nights game.
  
  Above all the Reds just had some bad luck last night. They played well against a good team and an awesome pitcher
  I'm fine with Dusty going to Bray with the ABs that Damon had against Cueto... Bray has been great against lefties
  Price was hurt by the bottom of the order just like Cueto... Is Cueto a top 10-15 starting pitcher? I'm not sure but he's well on his way
  Heisey did all he could to make the play, what happened was just a terrible break for the Reds
  I'm not sure that Stubbs would have had a better chance at the ball even with a good jump
  Basically, that's a tough and emotional loss
  But sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, and sometimes in rains... except when you're playing in a dome

  I dont think we can fault DB for bringing in Bray...he has most consistanty guy from the BP. I always wondered why they stuck with him wit his injuries for a number of years, but now I see why

  Slcoach has been on me for a while to get back over... I'll try to keep up, but I've been a regular on RedsZone the last year or two. I've tried to stay away from sites with HS related stuff due to coaching at the HS level. It's way too tempting to want to get involved in certain topics of conversation.

  I know what ya mean. To make it easier, just dont ever post on the forums in the sport you coach, or comment on any kids that you coach in the other sports they play. I coached HS aged kids for about 10 years and that is pretty much how I did it. I never would comment on our team, or even the sport, in the HS forums.

  I was the JV basketball coach and varsity assistant at Valley last year... I've also helped with the HS baseball program the last 2-3 years and been over the jr program. I added football to the resume this year so I have an iron in a number of fires.
