Not saying he sucks for not, just saying either know you are gonna catch it or let it drop.

He didn't really get a glove on it. I think it bounced first.

Yea, but a backhand pick on a rocket isn't an ordinary effort, even though most SS's come up w/ that ball.

    I say send him Dusty.

    Get him into scoring position.
I understand sending him. But I would have probably kept him at first. Farnsworth is good for a meltdown every so often and we had something cooking

Figures, right after I talk them up.

Why wouldnt you dive there? Its not like a liner that is going to go all the way to the wall or into a gap or anything. It was a bloop. Literally, the ONLY bad thing that could happen did. Just bad luck that it hit the tip of the glove after the bounce and when a rollin.
  • wildcats20
    Fuck that.
  • Terry_Tate
    Fuck.

Because if you let it drop only 1 run scores. Even if he dove and caught it on the short hop, both runs would have scored.

    Only the fuckin reds

2 things being argued a touch

1st.....the ball to the SS was an error, it was ripped, but he never had to move. Had that run scored it would've remained an error to save a little ERA for a potential CY candidate.....had it been Longoria vying for a gold glove....maybe it goes the other way....reasons aside....it's an error in the big leagues.

    2. No way in hell Heisey can do anything else....if he doesn't dive after that ball he gets blasted by his teammates and manager and this board blows up.

No it went right off the inside of the top of his glove

STRONGLY disagree a dunner from first there scores if it doesnt roll away. If he tried, he would have been toast.

Obviously knowing what we know now, he shouldn't have dove, because he kicked the ball away. However, he had no chance to catch that ball.

I'd like to see of Janish could have tracked that down. Renteria really didn't try too hard and he got relatively close to the action
  • wildcats20
Yeah, I'm thinking Janish could have got it.

Like you said Jordo, Edgar is old and slow and was pretty close.

    Longoria walk off

I'm guessing he heard heisey calling for it. Either way he made a hell of try.

Can't believe we keep blowing games....

Sheesh. That one hurts. I feel bad for Cueto.

He HAD no chance but going full speed, you think he can tell he will come up 6 inches short. I know its a moot point, but he pull sup there and everyone assumes a dive is a catch. With a chance for a win versus a dominant David Price, series win, in the 8th with 2 outs....you gotta try for that ball.

I know he had no chance and I know you can't make that decision going full speed. He made it a very close play.

Reds pitching and defense can't hold the situations that the offenses achieved in the top of the 8th and top of the 9th. Tough, tough loss! That would have been true whether Heisey went for the catch or not. You have to try for the catch. Try to win the game, especially on the road, and don't play to keep from losing it! If the Rays just tie it in the 8th, then you are the situation a team pops one out, like they did, and it is a walk-off win. Got to go for the catch every time - just bad luck it allowed a 2nd run in. Did anybody see how good a jump Heisey got on the ball?
  • Ironman92
I simply cannot believe you guys are saying he should not dive on that play....if you can dive and touch it....you have to go for it. You cannot play that ball that way. He catches that and they still are leading. Cueto pitched his ass off and if Heisey ( who has battled for PT all season with 2 others) doesn't dive for that ball....you are not battling for your pitcher. He was running 100% full speed and gave a full extension dive.....100% correct and I apologize for being a stubborn prick about this but no way in he'll don't you dive for that particular ball.
