    Yep, definitely 100% on Fausto...

I don't know what it is, but when he loses it, he loses it...

    Sad.
  • hoops23
Well, Detroit is losing 2-0 in the 8th... So maybe this loss will be a wash.

BBTN has an Asdrubal's GEMS topic coming up after the standard Web GEMS lol...

6.17.......4-9......6.3 million dollars. Priceless. Gomez, McCallister, and White...in the wings.
  • hoops23
White is hurt and won't be back until late August or September, if we're lucky...

Some tidbits from the Twitter account of Jordan Bastian (@MLBastian)

Indians RF Shin-Soo Choo has hit .400 (8-for-20) with 1 triple, 4 RBIs and 4 runs scored in his last six games.

Last four games, Indians C/1B Carlos Santana has hit .571 (8-for-14) with 3 homers, 5 RBIs and 5 runs scored.

Indians DH Travis Hafner has hit safely in his last seven games, batting .360 (9-for-25) with 2 homers and 12 RBIs during that stretch.

    Acta on Fausto:

Acta, on Carmona: "This is not fantasy baseball. You can't just get rid of him and bring somebody else over here. He's one of our guys. He's got good stuff. We just have to continue to work with him & throw him out there every five days." Acta, on Fausto's performance: "He just dug his own grave, basically."

Kershaw doing work, this time at the plate. Essentially putting the Tigers to an L all by himself tonight.
  • hoops23
Yeah, he just Verlandered the Tigers..

8 K's, 2 hits, and only on 97 pitches going into the 9th.

He's also got 2 RBI lol.
  • Laley23
That was a remarkable performance by Kershaw. He made them look silly, K'ing the side in the ninth.

    9 innings, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 H, 11 Ks.

    And he helped the Tribe!
  • hoops23
^Now, if Fausto didn't collapse, we likely have a 2 game lead, gain a game on the ChiSox, and a .5 game on Minny...

That's just the negative side of me talking though..

    Kershaw is a stud

I agree with Acta that you can't just get rid of him, but he needs to send a message to him by sending him to the bullpen. It isn't just a couple of bad outings.....Fausto flat out sucks this year.
  • royal_k
You can add LH Scott Barnes to the list of starting pitchers to call up. He is 6-1 with a 3.53 ERA and 3-0 in June with a 1.08 ERA. Overall 71 SO in 63.2 inn pitched.
Columbus has a very good pitching staff.

This is the guy they got from the Giants for Ryan Garko. Pretty good trade. lol

My take on Carmona...You just keep putting him out there and keep working( somewhat Wedge-esque,) but Acta is right. He was pitching pretty good until it blew up in the 5th....and not all his fault. He has to learn not to give in to hitters, and that is what he did when the going got tough. I guess the point is...'when IS he going to learn?' it is not like he is a rookie. But I think that decision is going to/needs to be made in the off season, not now.

This was a game of 'what could go wrong, did go wrong.' Terrible umpiring, bad luck and one big, bad decision/play. Also, Phelps getting called out going into second in the eigth was a huge blown call. That umpire needs to hand his head in shame....no excuse for missing that one. No pay raise for you!

Just curious--how was it not his fault? He had plenty of run support, and the defense played well behind him (other than the Marsen error)..as someone mentioned earlier, he's NOT a rookie, but he continues to make rookie mistakes. Maybe all he needs is an adult equivalent of a "time out", some time in Cbus to clear his head and regroup--he even appears to be talking to himself on the mound when things get tight, and this is a clear indication of a lack of confidence. We need Fausto, but we need a confident Fausto.

Go to bed with a 3-1 lead and Carmona strikes again....friggin hack.
  • Commander of Awesome
Not even one K in his 4.1 innings. SMH.
  • royal_k
He was one bad hop from getting out of the inning. If the ball missed 3rd base, OC fields it and steps on 3rd for the 3rd out. The lead is 4-2 and who knows how the game may have turned out.

But, he has to learn to bear down when the breaks go against him. The pitch to Giambi was a fast ball right down the middle. And we've seen way too many of those this year.
  • OneBuckeye
I thought Grady's can of corn was a no doubter in the 9th. WTF is up with pinch hitting someone who is 0-20 and swings at the first pitch. I am all for pinch hitting someone, but not him.

This. It's strange that he was inches from getting out of that inning and this not being (as big of) a discussion. I guess cliche's are cliche's for a reason. Up to that point it wasn't really Fausto's fault, the meatball to Giambi was all on him. He can't, repeat can't, give a hitter like Giambi that pitch, with a 3-1 count and first base open.

that exactly what I meant when I said it was not all his fault. He gets out of that inning and pitches another 2 strong innings and we're toasting him instead of roasting him. I also said he can't give into hitters either...and that was his big mistake. Every pitcher gets bad breaks, you just have to keep pitching your game and minimize the damage. Carmona let it get out of control, and that is all on him. That is a mistake I'd expect from an unseasoned player. Carmona has been around enough, and has had to have heard that many times. That he doesn't get that, I'm sure, will be a topic of discussion in post season evaluations.

Hold on. That was bad luck on the ball hitting the base. But Fausto was 0-2 on Iannetta with 2 outs and walked him. Then walked Helton with the bases loaded. That was sandwiched around 2 singles. Fausto had lost it, it was obvious. He ALMOST got lucky and got out of it. See, you can spin it that way as well. Fact of the matter, Tuo should never have been up...hell, CarGo shouldnt have gotten up. You have to put away the bottom of the order with an 0-2 count. That is a fact.

agree with this. I thought Grady had tied the game. He must have just got it out on the end of the bat.
Travis Buck needs to be sent down and become more selective at what he swings at. Down one run, as a leadoff hitter in the ninth inning it's his job to get on base. Instead he swings at a boderline strike on the first pitch.SMH. These guys are pros.

Tough loss last night, Indians should have won that game.

Carmona was off to a great start through 5 then completely fell apart. How much longer until some kind of move is made? I'm thinking phantom injury, sounds good right about now.

This. It was pretty much inexcusable. I don't see how anyone could play devils advocate or be an apologist for Carmona.
