I am still ticked about that move sending Duncan down.

Once the game is tied going to the 9th at home, there can never be a save situation. So basically, you would rather have anybody else in the bullpen pitch before Perez? The guy who just gave up his 2nd home run since last June.

Unbelievable they didn't use Cabrera...honestly the Indians pitchers would've had a better AB

Yes. Perez should not be used unless it's needed.

Closers in non save situations usually fail.

Minny got to him in the same situation and you see it happen all over.

Last year Dusty brought CoCo in ALLLLLLLLLL the time in non save situations. Pissed me off like none other. And, like you said hoops, it almost always failed in some way or another.
  • grodt
I don't know if it's a mentality thing with closers but they seem to suck in non-save situations. I would have been ok bringing Pestano in in that situation.

Speaking of that, I hope they have been taking some BP.

Im good with bringing in Perez in a non save situation. But not until Perez, Pestano, Sipp, and Smith have ALL been used in the game. He is half as good as he is when its a non save situation.

As for Kearns...this is why I would never pinch run for my best player/hitter. Ever. They always end up with a key at bat later. Pronk is the slowest damn guy in the league, but you just dont take his bat out of the lineup.

    Detroit down 4-1

Minny will win tonight and the ChiSox are beating the Cubbies.

i was shocked when i saw kearns announced as the pinch hitter. what do we have to do to get this guy off the team? i'm willing to donate money if that's the issue (know how cheap dolan is)

inexcusable to lose two in a row to Colorado, especially at home...and I'm really beginning to question Acta as an effective in-game manager--some of his decisions on pinch hitters this year have been mind boggling, to say the least

I still can't get over Kearns being the choice to pinch hit. Acta has made a few questionable calls lately.

IMO his biggest mistake was pinch running for Hafner in the 8th inning. If he's still in the game, Kearns doesn't even sniff a bat. I understand getting speed in for Pronk, as he was the winning run. But, in a tight game, you never know how many more at bats he would get.

See my post. I would (99% 0f the time) never, EVER pinch run for my most potent bat. He is slow, but his bat needs to be in the line-up in case something like last night happens.

    ^^^^^I wouldn't do it for "defense" either....with a lead...maybe
  • iclfan2
To add insult to injury, Duncan had a 3 run homer in the minors yesterday. Will someone please cut Kearns? I hate him, and if you look back have hated him all season, yet some "professionals" think he is worth hanging on to.

Agreed. A lead is a whole other ballgame to discuss.
  • Ironman92
Dusty always did that to Dunn......the worst was the infamous game that killed Aaron Harang for 2+ years. Greg Maddux started and Dunn hit a 2 run HR and also had a double.....Dusty pulls him for defense in the bottom of the 9th up by 1.....Reds give up the lead and in extra innings instead of facing Dunn who kills it in San Diego....the Padres had to face rookie Paul Janish, then Bronson Arroyo and then Aaron Harang...all in Dunn's batting spot.

That game worked out great! But at least Corey Patterson got to play the whole game......going 0-8.....and Edwin played the whole game......going 1-9.

yesterday's goat is today's hero...the much maligned Travis Buck who wore the goat horns in the first game comes thru with a game tying single yesterday...only to have the horns picked up by Kearns. Just a terrible at bat.

I must admit that the dismissal of Jon Nunnaly did not sit well with me. Nunnaly was credited with bring several players around...including the fast start that still has the Tribe on top....only to get canned at the first sign of a prolonged slump.
Has Fields joined the club yet?

Grrrrrrrrrrr! Sending him down was a TERRIBLE move, imo!

players available that i would have rather seen grab a bat before kearns:

    cabrera
    everett
    masterson
    tomlin
    carmona
    carrasco
    pestano
    smith
    durbin
    hermann
    sipp

then i'd rifle through the grounds crew and then give ketchup, mustard and onion a go

then maybe i'd think about kearns

^That guy can bang with the best of'em

I just realized that my thread starting record is in line with the Tribe on won-lost differential.

    Tribe at 39-33.
    BRF at 13-7.

    What this means is nothing.

    Go Tribe.

(I'm trying to take my mind off Duncan not being here. Clutch hitter and club house leader.....and HE gets sent down.......slowly I turn, step by step....)

Acta defended Kearns by saying we're a "what have you done for me recently" society...

Claimed that people forget Kearns carried us offensively last season when Grady went down for good...

Uh, Manny... We won just over 60 games last season, you really want to quote that as "carrying us"?.. And what the hell does last season have to do with THIS year? We're actually contending for a division this time around, we don't need to trot out guys who can't hit their own weight. Besides, last season he had 8 homers/42 RBI/.272 BA... No wonder we sucked ass if that's what carried us..

    This season, he's batting a shade over .200 with 2 RBI and 0 homers in 98 AB's... That includes 32 K's

    GTFO of Cleveland.
