such a dumb comparison acting like D-wade is the standard for NBA players or something. He is one of the best, everybody struggles guarding him.

Which is exactly why I would want to see Wade against him. Regular joe NBA has a hard enough time, I wonder what Deebs would do.

Are you related to Diebler or something? Sheesh

    This is true.

But how many 2 guards in the NBA can Diebs guard?

In his division (if he makes/stays with the blazers)

    Cj Miles-No
    Raja-Maybe
    Harden-No
Sefolosha-it would be a wash bc sefolosha has clamps for diebs
    Wesley Johnson- No
    Affalo-No
    Chandler-No
    JR Smith-No

    all of them.

    EDIT.

I thought this said "How many 2 guards in the NBA can guard Diebs." Whoops haha.

Diebs can't cover any of them. He can contain them with help. But he'll always be a liability. But I shouldn't say this, because I will offend Pick6

The fact that Jordo and Hb think that Diebler is a bust leads me to believe Diebler will be a 10 time all star.
  • Hb31187
Agreed. Hes better than John Wall correct?

If this guy wasnt from your beloved OSU, you wouldnt think hed amount to shit lol

You can't be a bust if you are a late 2nd rounder. Nobody is expecting anything from guys back there. Anybody who turns into a decent pro is gravy.

I don't think he's that great, but he'll make the team and he'll be a decent role player.

When will he get minutes in Portland though?

He'll get some minutes at the local Citgo. David Lighty has a much better chance making a team next year and he didn't get drafted.

Whenever Portland wants a spot up shooter to come in and nail a 3.

Who was the last spot up shooter to make it in the NBA? Honestly, without scratching my brain, I cant think of one.

Redick is the closest guy I can think of.

Yeah, but even he was able to evolve his game tremendously his JR year and especially his SR of college. He was not a spot up shooter when he entered the league. But I agree, he was the closest I could come up with as well.

Scalabrine, Kapono, Peja, Cook, etc... There's a lot more too, you find them on the end of the bench.
  • jordo212000
    Trajan Langdon? Does he count?

Laley23;814572 wrote:Yeah, I saw that, and it is an interesting take. But, I just dont see it. Sure, he will get a spot and have his moments. But I wouldnt expect him to be anything but around the 10th guy off the bench.

I think people are underestimating how HARD it is to get open in the NBA if you arent athletic. I dont care how great you can work off screens etc, the guys in the NBA are so much faster and stronger that he is gonna have a really tough time getting open and getting his shot off. I think it makes much more sense that a great player has to turn into a role player than a role player being able to continue to be a role player. I could be dead wrong. But Diebler never, ever struck me as a guy who would do anything but get a few chances in lopsided games.

Oh I agree with your first part. Diebler will most likely never start an NBA game, but with his skills I don't think its unreasonable for him to make a roster and play against favorable opponents. He wouldn't do anything against teams like the Heat, but against the lesser teams I think he could have some good games. Defense in the NBA is overall underrated imo but teams need players who know their role, and Diebler can do that.

Curious...did you watch any of those guys in college? LMAO at Scal, Kapono, and Cook being labeled as spot up shooters.

I've said this a million times, he is Matt Carroll 2.0.

The problem with "spot up" shooter is they don't play very many minutes in the NBA. So its hard to find examples but every team has at least one or two that can come in and stretch the floor, and Diebler will be that guy.

I dont doubt that he cant. My point is, who was the last player to do that solely in college and make the NBA? Lots of versitle guys in college have come to the NBA and become spot up shooters. But Diebler wasnt a versatile guy in college. It will be interesting to see if he can adapt to the same role or if his lack of versatility actually hurts.

I could easily see this becoming the case. My whole point was that most people who become spot up shooters in the NBA are better than Diebler and were much more in college. They became spot up shooters because they werent athletic, quick, strong enough etc for the NBA. But Diebler was not that in college, so I wonder if the transition will work at all, or if (like someone said earlier) it will be easier since he already knows the role. Personally, I dont think he will be able to adapt.

His "lack of versatility" will actually help him. Redick, Kapono, etc... had a tougher time transitioning in the NBA because they had to go from being big time scorers to spot up shooters. Diebler has already been playing the role he's going to play in the NBA for 4 years and you cannot debate that he has an elite ability to shoot the ball. Again, in the right situation he's a guy that can come in and knock down a few threes a game. Not a starter, not even probably a heavy rotation player, but certainly a guy that has a role in the NBA.

I get that. But why are you so sure? There have been many snipers in college who only did that, and they couldnt make the NBA. The guys who become spot up shooters in the NBA are all guys who were more versatile in the college game. I just see no precedent for him to make it.
