  I really dont know what I was talking about lol I guess I didn t realize the numbers he out up, my point was I didn't come away from his games again ku and Santa Clara thinking he was going to be in consideration for the number 1 pick in the draft..he didn't really EXPLODE on the scene until the tournament he was always just really good but he really took it to the next level come tourney time.

  Umm okay, that's a mock from February this was a pre season tournament in November...if u seriously think he was as hyped in November as he is now there is no hope for you.
  
  Was talking to some Kansas guys at the ou/ku game what they knew about Arizona which was our next game..they said "they got a guy Derrick something, pretty good player" do you think that's how people talk about a future #1 pick? A future #2 pick? A future lottery pick?
  
  Coming out of that tournament I said he's a good player but nothing made me believe he'd be a future franchise player...until his NCAA tourney

  Being a really good college player and being a franchise player are two completely different things so I will give you that point, I also wasn't sold on him as a franchise changing player until the tourney but I still knew he was a great college player after that performance against Kansas. Just saying. I know I'm knit picking but all these people that are just saying he rocketed up because of the tourney are just wrong.

  I don't think they're wrong I think they just mean he went from a lottery pick to a top 2, franchise type pick..and I think that's certainly fair to assume.

  Yeah, I watched Williams all year long and thought Lottery. Then he went for 17 and 19 in a game versus I think Washington St and then a few weeks later 26 and like 12 versus Washington (may have the teams switched). It was the first I had watched a whole game of his since Conference play had started. That got me thinking he was more than lottery. Like top 5 talent. Then, despite not playing out of his mind, showed other winning facets to his game in the Pac-10 Tourney (lost in title game) and then the game versus Duke I thought he should go #1 overall.

  I think ccrunner really proved his point when he confused Stephen and Seth Curry, yet was trying to argue FOR Seth as a Duke fan...can you really be that ignorant yet still take the time to come on a message board and engage in a debate with other people? I know if my knowledge on a subject isn't worthy of debating, I'll just keep quiet...

  --Harper the best shooting big man over Singler??? No way (Yet Harper was at 44% from 3 and Singler like 33%)
  --Harper doesnt count because he is at a mid major; easier to shoot. Wouldnt play at all at Duke
  --Seth Curry was the leading scorer in the nation, so he can obviously play at Duke and why his shooting translates.
  --By Seth, be meant Steph...who never went to Duke. But killed it at Davidson, a mid major.

  Couldn't disagree with this more. He's a spot up shooter and has elite ability in that regard. Not to mention that unlike some great college shooters who were the primary parts of their offense (ala JJ Redick), Diebler has been playing the role he'll play in the NBA for 4 years now. He's at least a hard working defender, smart player, elite shooter. Also a guy you can bring in at the end of games to ice it from the FT line. He'll carve out a nice niche that should lead to a decent career in the NBA>

  That's the thing...he doesn't have to create his own shot. His job is to come off the bench and bury a few threes coming off of a screen or sitting in the corner.

  He can work hard on D all he wants ....but honestly hes not gonna be able to keep up with or out rebound many 2 guards in the NBA at all. Hel'll come off the bench, get a few minutes hit a few 3's but wont turn out to be anything really that good. JJ had a much better game coming out of college than Diebler. JJ wasnt just a spot up shooter, he actually could create for himself a little bit in college.

  I'm not quite sure what's being argued here? His job in the NBA will be to make 3s, not create assists and rebound. He needs to play decent to good defense, not get fancy on offense, and just hit shots when he's open. He may average 6 points a game in the NBA but there could be games he hits 5 3s and that's what hes there for.

  No shit. Jason Kapono has made a living in the league doing just this. He's no all-star but he's stuck in the NBA for awhile. There's always a place on somebodies roster for a long distance sharpshooter/specialist.

  But thats a BAD comparison. Kapono was a near AA at UCLA and was a McD AA in high school. He can do way more than Diebler can. In the NBA, he be mostly a jumpshooter, but in college he wasnt. If Diebler takes the same route, he wont do anything in college. I think he is the schools 3rd leading scorer of all time and was 1st team all Pac-10 each year he played.

  I think someone made the point earlier, and not sure how I feel about it but its an interesting thought, that Diebler should have an easier transition to the NBA since his role will be pretty much the same, whereas Kapono and Redick were much more involved in college. I can't think of someone who did what Diebler will be doing though. I do think his basketball iq and work ethic(and obviously shooting) will get him a spot.

  If he stays in Portland I doubt he gets minutes at all though, unless someone gets hurt or theyre just getting a break for the day.
  
  Roy, Matthews, Batum, Smith Wallace will all be playing the 2 or 3 ahead of Diebler

  Yeah, I saw that, and it is an interesting take. But, I just dont see it. Sure, he will get a spot and have his moments. But I wouldnt expect him to be anything but around the 10th guy off the bench.
  
  I think people are underestimating how HARD it is to get open in the NBA if you arent athletic. I dont care how great you can work off screens etc, the guys in the NBA are so much faster and stronger that he is gonna have a really tough time getting open and getting his shot off. I think it makes much more sense that a great player has to turn into a role player than a role player being able to continue to be a role player. I could be dead wrong. But Diebler never, ever struck me as a guy who would do anything but get a few chances in lopsided games.

  Diebler isn't making that team. Love the guy but he'll get exposed in the beginning part of the season. For every 3 he makes, he'll give up 4-5 points.

  Thats the other thing, I dont care HOW hard he works on defense. He cant stay in front of 97% of the guys he will be guarding.
