Indians vs Royals Series Thread

BR1986FBI'm sure this has been mentioned but my biggest fear with these guys (starting pitching)is that, outside of Carmona, they haven't really pitched a complete season (30 starts +/-). I'm just hoping these young guys don't hit the wall.
-
royal_kWell, we've already seen Talbot hit the DL. And he isn't even picking up a baseball for 4 weeks. Add in his rehab and you're looking at 6 weeks minimum. Plus strained elbows can turn out to be much worse.

This is a fear of mine as well, and the major reason I believe they are probably still a year or 2 away from really contending. That could change if they are still in contention around the all-star break and they are willing to move some minor league talent for a quality starter. Also, if a couple of these guys do hit the wall and need some rest, Gomez, Huff and White could come up and provide that opportunity. -
hoops23The good thing is, we have pitching depth to give guys breaks when needed...
Hopefully it works out. -

You would be fired as a manager. The goal is to motivate your players and show faith in them. This isn't a long-term problem yet, it is 16 games into the season. In comparison to Choo's .213 average and 2 home runs, Mark Teixeira is batting a robust .220 with 5 home runs, and he had 3 homers after 3 games. I'm sure you would move him down in the order. Torii Hunter is ripping the cover off the ball in the middle of the Angels order, batting .217. My point is, Choo is a proven major league hitter and crucial to the success of this team long-term. Moving him down in the order shows incredible short-sightedness and a small picture view. There are 142 games left in the season.
These players:
Johnny Damon
Josh Hamiliton
Derek Jeter
David Ortiz
Nick Swisher
B.J. Upton
Jason Heyward
Nick Markakis
Ian Kinsler
Mark Teixeira
Vernon Wells
Jason Werth
All of those guys have as many (13) or less hits than Choo so far this season. And there are many more. -

But take Josh Hamilton off that list. He hasn't played in a week. -

Are you a yankees or a red sox fan? -
wildcats20And Choo is arguably the Indians best hitter. They have the 2nd best record in baseball, are playing great, and other people are picking up his slack. Benching him or even moving him down would be a terrible move.

Thats the same thing I've been hearing with Santana's struggles at the plate. Its working, dont mess with the lineup, let him figure it out etc.. Long as we're winning I have no issues with it. -

They have THE best record in the Bigs! -
OQBLol whatever you guys say...everyone has the right answers!
I'm just saying give him a day off prove a point....we aren't talking about little league here...these guys are major league baseball players, start playing like it. -

Prove what point? I'm sure he's well aware of his slow start, I don't think he needs anybody in his ear about it.
As far as them playing like Major Leaguers, well, they are 12-4 tied for the best record in baseball... What more do you want?
Every player in baseball will have a bad stretch, just happened to be that Choo started out that way. You're not going to have every guy in the lineup firing on all cylinders at the same time. -

Exactly. Im all for a day off, because I think every player should be getting about 12 a year, if needed. But to drop him in the order this early is jumping the gun.
If Choo started out hitting .428 and then went into this slid and was still hitting around .300 or .275 or whatever the math would be we wouldnt be saying to move him, yet...the slump would be the EXACT same, just later in the year and the numbers wouldnt look terrible. -

My biggest fear is that they'll be playing for the Yankees or Sox or anywhere else come August. -

Laley...you and Hoops == voices of reason. Choo has been our best player over the past 2 years or so. He's a 5 tool guy. Oh sure, he occasionally pulls a rock on the base paths, but overall, the guy is great.Laley23;745160 wrote:Exactly. Like Hoops said....isn't the guy entitled to a short term slump? VMart hit over 420 for the entire month of April a few years back. Then he went o'fer 30 or thereabouts. Nobody was calling for his head. -

There's nothing to fear. I'm just enjoying some good ball by my tribe. I don't think they are capable of winning it all. We Cleveland fans have been trained like Pavlov's dog not to get overly excited. -

I would like to see Shelly Duncan in the line up for Sizemore tonight...And I would sit Hannahan for Everett. But...Hannahan has hit lefties a lot better than righties I've noticed.royal_k;744606 wrote:If he gets a day off, it will probably be tomorrow. They face a left hander. I'm wondering if Grady gets the day off as well. They aren't going to push him yet and it would make sense against a LH. -
BRFI think that OQB was "firing from his hip". I would not bench Choo, either (with pronounciation "eye-ther" on that one! )
It's like this, imo: OQB is seeing things going good and wants to make things better....kinda like in golf, when you are doing good and instead of keep doing what you are doing....ya HAVE to try and make little adjustments to make your game better....and then your game falls apart!!!! Speaking of golf, it's been a long time since I commented on the user name "footwedge"...that is frickin' hilarious and I'll bet that a lot of Chatterers don't know what it means! Hahaha!
Go Tribe! -
BRFOh and btw, that weird play last night in which Butler got tagged out off the base...Butler knew he was out and that's why he did that. The replays showed that the tag on the bag was made. Manning says in the background, "that's Joe West for you". He's the first base ump tonight, so watch out.
Game on! Go Tribe! -
iclfan2Starting lineup isn't stellar tonight but hopefully we can get it done. C'mon Gomez.
-
BRFYeah, one might think we are mailing this one in. Oh well, we'll see. Three stolen bases by the Royals in the first and no damage. That's good.
-
DeadliestWarrior34Cabrera looked like he was trying to ground into a dp there. WTF was that
-
Laley23Well, not a good start to the bottom of inning #3. 2 in already for the Royals.
2-0. -
dazedconfusedif only santana could catch a throw from the pitcher, inning might have enfolded drastically different
