Cool NBA question.

They didn't win the East last year. Boston did. Also, if you want to compare the Cavs teams with LeBron and the Celtics with Bird, compare the supporting casts. McHale, Parrish, Dennis Johnson, Ainge, Walton. How many HOF players (Shaq doesn't count and the verdict is still out on Mo and Varejo ) did LeBron have on his team? Its been proven one player can't win championships on his own. Would Bird have won a title with the Cavs cast of the last couple of years?Raw Dawgin' it;674604 wrote:They won the east last year...which is exactly what i said, best team in the east. -

Trueblue23That Houston team had talent, don't act like they were scrubs.

Neither were the Cavs....and please don't try to be like ESPN and pretend that the team this year is the same as last year except for LeBron. the Cavs' top 6 players aren't in Cleveland or aren't playing very much. There was no Manny Harris, Christian Eyenga, and Alonzo Gee getting significant minutes last season.
Now granted Hakeem Olajuwon is one of the greatest players in the history of basketball, but many are claiming to have LeBron in that class as well. -

That's the best you could come up with? Have you not heard of Clyde Drexler?

And your point is? Cleveland was never close to winning a championship with those teams, so your point is invalid.Y-Town Steelhound;674900 wrote:Neither were the Cavs....and please don't try to be like ESPN and pretend that the team this year is the same as last year except for LeBron. the Cavs' top 6 players aren't in Cleveland or aren't playing very much. How many minutes did Clyde play for Houston on that 1st championship team?...please bring up the numbers. Thanks for playing -

Um...my point was a rebuttal to the point that no one can win a title by himself. Hakeem did that. The fact that the Cavs and Rockets supporting casts weren't all that different in terms of talent is just a bonus that strengthens my point. -
Hb31187Drexler was a shell of his former self and ring chasing by the time he got to Houston

Compare the roster of Houston their first championship year to the Cavs of the last few years. You are telling me Cleveland has better players than that Houston team? -

He might have been ring chasing, but he did average 22 a game that first year in Houston. His career average was 20.4. Pretty solid when Olajuwan was getting 27 shots a game. Also, not a shell of himself. -

Statistically they're comparable. There were no all stars on the 93 Rockets. There were no hall of famers. There was Hakeem and a bunch of solid players, and they won the title....twice. You can throw out talking points all you want but the stats back up my side of the argument. -

Drexler pulled a LeBron. He couldn't get it done as the man in Portland (after Jordan raped him in the finals), so he went to team up with a guy who already had a ring. -

Wouldn't it be LeBron pulling a Drexler? I don't recall the outrage when Drexler went to Houston. You also brought up a good point kind of. Jordan didn't play that first year and he wasn't back to himself the following year, the NBA was about as weak as it had ever been. -

Well there are various things wrong with this post so I guess I'll pick it apart piece by piece.
There was no outrage when Drexler left because he was TRADED...he didn't leave in free agency. He also didn't have a 1 hour ESPN special announcing his move to Houston, and he's from Louisiana....not Oregon. Not to mention the Blazers weren't very good when he left, not a team coming off of back to back seasons with the best record in the league.
The NBA was not "as weak as it has ever been". Let me bring up some names for you of players that were still playing at that time. Scottie Pippen, John Stockton, Karl Malone, David Robinson, Shawn Kemp, Gary Payton, Charles Barkley, Shaquille O'Neal, Penny Hardaway, Kevin Johnson, Mark Price, Dikembe Mutombo....I can keep going if you'd like. There was MUCH less talent in the NBA between say 1999-2007 even without Jordan. -

lol you do realize over half of the players you listed there were still playing for most of the years between 1999-2007 right? -

LOL.....I also listed players that were in their PRIMES. The only player on that list that you could argue was better in the second time period is Shaq. 1993 Pippen>2001 Pippen for example. I mean I honestly laugh at some of your posts...I really do. I'll have to bookmark these for when I have a bad day and need a good laugh. -
Skyhook79the NBA was about as weak as it had ever been./QUOTE]
In 94-95 it was. Boston made the Playoffs with a 35-47 record and the Rockets, who won it all, were 47-35 in the regular season. They barely survived their 1st 2 rounds of the Playoffs and then beat SA 3 times on SA's home floor. SA won 62 games that year. It was just a magical run that year for Houston. -
Midstate01I'd say to use shaq as a player on the celtics then you have to use his stats as a Celtic. Not anytime before. And so why not place him on the NBA team for the other years.

I think it had a little more to do with Hakeem abusing Robinson than any type of "magic". I find it funny that a Lakers fan all of a sudden finds the regular season to be of importance. -
