Soooo....NASCAR, is it dead?

It's an activity, much like pool, bowling, poker, golf, chess, etc. They are all competitive games that take skill but not necessarily athletic prowess to be successful at. I know I'll definitely ruffle feathers with my golf comment as that is more debatable. I still just have that image of guys on a gulf course with cigars... and yes, someone from a tour event almost winning (I believe he ended up just a tad short) winning a course while smoking a cigar excludes it from being an athletic event.

But one of the things I personally think is necessary for something to be considered a sport is the element of "hustle." Basically if the concept of strenuously exerting yourself to get just that much better isn't present then it can't be a sport. To me this is isn't the only factor, but one of many.

I have gone into this topic a few times before more extensively on the other board; but that is enough said for now.

I disagree, but thanks for bringing a sane, reasonable argument unlike some other douchebags.

It's not the format, the points system, the tracks, or the cars, imo. I actually think there are drivers better than Jimmie Johnson in the series. It's just that the entire 48 team is the complete package, at the moment. The other teams need to step up and do a better job in order to beat the 48 team. It's that simple.

Pacers 95 Lakers 92 --- First win for Indy @ L.A. since Feb of 99' .... Pacers starting to look like a very good team with wins @ Miami & @ L.A.

    Kobe with 41

Is that why they had to switch out Johnson's pit crew with Gordon's?

They did what they had to do. That's why they are the champs. Still waiting for another team to step up and knock them off.

That was BS. I would have been PISSED if I was on JJ's crew that got switched. They had a couple bad stops ONE RACE. Look what happened after they switched? Gordon's crew was faster over the last 2 races than Johnson's.

Jr. wins the most popular driver award...again, for the 8th straight time. I think that's going to change within the next couple of years if he doesn't get things turned around quickly.

Hendricks also looking at extending his contract. Looks like those millions of dollars in merchandise sales that Hendricks makes off Jr. offsets that fact that he can't drive a race car.

Eh, about the last 4 years. But I will disagree, I am hearing it from a shitload of his fan's, "I'm gonna give it one more year." Right Coyote?

I've said for years I was going to quit rooting for him. He hasn't been good since the Busch was the Busch.
  • GoChiefs
He did finish 5th in '06 I believe? I mean, you're not gonna finish 5th if you suck THAT bad. I think he's sucked since the new car came around. Just seems like he can't get a handle on it.
  • gerb131
No doubt about him not driving the new cars so well. I'd go as far to say in the old cars he'd prob have a championship.
5th isn't bad no, but him going to the golden team w/Hendrick who can make Vickers look decent he has been a dissapointment.

From a casual, and fading, Nascar observer...

Every race looks the same from week to week to week - California, Texas, KC, Chicago, Michigan, Las Vegas, Dover, Loudon, all x 2. I'll go out of my way to watch Daytona, Bristol, and the road-course races - otherwise, I usually cease to watch the races once the weather gets warm enough for me to be outside.

Cut most of the tracks back to one race, and end the season in September, when everyone bails for football.
