    Huge game Thursday @ Filthadelphia.

It is too much! Colin Campbell has no consistency what so ever when it comes to shelling out suspensions. 10 games would have been good enough but to add in a playoff round is ridiculous, especially after the suspensions he gave to Gillies, who did much worse than Cooke. Then throw in the fact that guys like Lucic and Chara go scott free after those horrific hits they delivered and it makes you wonder, especially when Campbell's kid plays for the Bruins. Then again, there's a conspiracy through out the league to gie Pitstburgh favoritism.

First off, like_that is a fucking Pittsburgh thread troll and if you don't like it GTFO!

If you take a look at this team. It has every reason to fail. Thats why I love how they are still knee deep in the battle.

How awesome would it be to see this team take it all the way ?

What would it say about the ownership and the coach ?
  • KnightXC1
Well now Cooke has set the precedent for suspensions for blatant head shots and your GM agrees 100% with the suspension and thinks it is totally appropriate. Chara did not deliver a blatant head shot, just a devastating hit for which he was ejected. While it's debatable if Chara purposefully tried to hurt him, he got punished (Probably should have gotten another game or 2 but 2 seperate and different situations), the big difference is Cooke PURPOSEFULLY tried to injure someone and has done so on more than 1 occasion (5 to be exact with at least 24 games of suspension).

As far as like that or whomever it was, I never said anyone was a clueless idiot so don't put my name on there claiming I did while you hide behind your computer.

You are talking about a guy who is not smart enough to conduct an argument so he resorts to responses like this:

BTW, that inscription over your avatar should read "1st Team All Moron".

If you are not down on your knees for pittsburgh sports you are a piece of shit. It's like arguing with a 10 year old. That's why he is known as the biggest cry baby on this forum.

Letang was horrible tonight plain and simple, along with Kovy.

Idk what it is with this team and blowing 3rd period leads, it needs fixed now.

Yeah Chara's hit wasn't done on purpose.......give me a fuckig break!

As for Cooke, he's guilty of what he did and once again, if you bothered to READ anything I posted on it you'd see that I agree Cooke should be suspended but adding a playoff series to it is absurd! This is Colin Campbell's way of telling Mario Lemieux to fuck off. BTW, I'm willing to bet that the next repeat offender who's up for suspension in this league gets half of what Cooke got.

Or this is his way of doing what mario asked for...handing out steeper punishment. Here is a direct quote of Mario asking the league to hand out harsher suspensions

"The NHL had a chance to send a clear and strong message that those kinds of actions are unacceptable and embarrassing to the sport. It failed," Lemieux said then. "We, as a league, must do a better job of protecting the integrity of the game and the safety of our players. We must make it clear that those kinds of actions will not be tolerated and will be met with meaningful disciplinary action."
  • Raw Dawgin' it
Oh hey! Here's your GM backing the suspension too....

Last month, Lemieux lashed out at the NHL for what he perceived to be insufficient discipline following a brawl-filled game between the Islanders and his Penguins.

Penguins general manager Ray Shero supported the penalty the NHL gave Cooke, saying in a statement that the suspension was "warranted because that's exactly the kind of hit we're trying to get out of the game.

"Head shots have no place in hockey. We've told Matt in no uncertain terms that this kind of action on the ice is unacceptable and cannot happen. Head shots must be dealt with severely, and the Pittsburgh Penguins support the NHL in sending this very strong message."

^^^^What do you expect Shero and Lemieux to say? They're the ones who are spear heading this entire head shot campaign!

Cooke's suspension is warranted but to add a playoff round in there is ridiculous, especially when Campbell is all over the board when it comes to administering suspensions. It's a joke!

This best describes the way I feel about the Cooke issue:

Fuckin fell alseep between regulation and OT. Dammit.. I guess I could look it up...they in in OT or SO?

Shootout. Sucks that they blew a lead for two straight games (with this one being a larger lead without a boneheaded penalty setting up the other team's comeback), but it's good they came back to wind up with the win.

I expect them not to be sheep and say what they think. They clearly speak their minds so if they thought the suspension was unjust I suspect they would've said that.

I think the article covers a different point. Enforcers are necessary but going out of your way to make an illegal hit isn't and that's what the NHL is saying to Matt Cooke with this suspension. They're not saying to him stop being a pest and disrupting the other team, they're saying stop being dirty while you do that.

Especially on the road, in hostile environment, against a great team.

Shows some poise to end up with a win after giving up 3 goal lead in one period. A less mature team folds up the tent and loses that type ofgame.

If Cooke would have got 7 games the Pens brass would have made the same comment!

As for the article, IMO it says there's many players in the NHL like Cooke, some worse!

I'm sure Madden will update his blog on this story today and when he does I'll post it.

Did Chara intend to hit him? Yes. Did he intend to break bones in the guys neck by running him into the stantion there? That's highly debatable and not likely in my opinion.

And I never said or inferred anywhere that you didn't think he should be suspended. A 14 game suspension for an attempt to injure another player with a shot to the head is hardly the worst case. And Cooke is a repeat offender so obviously the punishment is worse, just like suspensions in most other sports.

So let me ask you as a civilized person, how many games should the Capital who elbowed Crosby have been suspended in your opinion?

tony kornheiser said on PTI Cooke should be banned from the league...what a moron. Anyone else see/hear that from yesterday?

Chara and Pacioretty have a history and Pacioretty himself said he feels Chara tried to deliberatley ram his head in to the turnbuckle. Once again, nothing happens to Chara or Lucic for that fact because Campbell's kid plays for the Bruins.

Heatly (sp?) gets only two games for his despicable attack from behind, regardless if he's not a repeat offender, that only warrants two games? Bullshit! The NHL says and does two different things and it's clearly evident with Cooke.

As for Steckel, yes he should have been suspended for what he did to Crosby but the league saw it as incidental contact........RIGHT!
