Random NBA chatter

Discuss NBA basketball about teams other than Cavs, Lakers, Celtics, Heat, etc.

Blake Griffin is having quite the debut tonight and will run away with the ROY if he keeps up this pace. Clippers have some nice pieces with Baron Davis, Eric Gordon, the Caveman, and Griffin. They may not win enough to make the playoffs in the West but they will be a tough match up every night if they stay healthy.

Blake Griffin is a fucking monster.

I forgot what it was like to watch him play, after sitting out all of last year.
  • karen lotz
Does Kaman look worse with the long ratty hair or shaved head and red beard?
  • wildcats20
I don't know, but he gets the job done. I never have liked him, but he is a gritty dude out there.

And you're right, this Clippers team has a chance to be fairly decent. I for sure could see them getting the 7 or 8 spot. But ONLY if they buy into what Vinny is selling.

The Clippers seem to always have talent but they always fall short.

Def didnt know that Oden hurt himself AGAIN. He is officially a bust. OSU has not had very much luck with their highly drafted NBA players, maybe Turner changes that
  • karen lotz
What happened to Oden? I was wondering why he wasn't playing but didn't look it up.
  • bigdaddy2003
Oden is definitely a bust. He may as well go home.

    Blake Griffin is a beast.
  • karen lotz
Warriors won a defensive struggle with the Rockets tonight. Ellis had 46.
  • Hb31187
Oden broke his knee cap, kinda like Griffin apparently. Only griffin fractured his, Oden broke his in half he said in an interview with em during the Clippers game
  • karen lotz
Is this the same injury from last year or a new one?
  • Hb31187
Im not sure about that, I think its a new one?
  • Hb31187
But Man OSU and 1st rounders lately havent been very friendly

    Oden-Bust
Conley-top 5 pick and is average at best
Cook- Eh, hes okay i guess?
BJ Mullens-If you cant beat out Kristic, dunno what to tell ya
    Koufos- average at best also

Turner is the only one really that I see amounting to anything

Oden is expected to be out until late November. He is still recovering from surgery after breaking his knee cap last December. He has made some nice coin in his career to do a lot of rehab. I'd like to see him get healthy and see what he can do.

Literally exactly what me and my friends were talking about. Whew what a player. He's a beast.

Agreed. He was doing very well last year before he got injured.

Unfortunately he kind of ran into a buzzsaw. He's not going to get put in for shotblocking, because Marcus Camby is the best shotblocker in the league; and he's not going to get put in to score points, because Lamarcus has one of the best skill sets of any big in the league, as evidenced by his huge three tonight.

    Interesting to see what happens.

Griffin's style of play might be the only thing that holds him back. He is going to take a beating over the course of his career.

Very true, but Camby is getting up there in age. Aldridge is one of those "pussies" that didn't get mentioned in that other thread. Very solid on the offensive side but isn't a real force on the other end of the court. I did hear Tirico say tonight that he put on 25 pounds of muscle this offseason I think, so he might be a little better equipped for it.

    HAH I read that.

My only response is this. Those bigs that don't pound inside aren't "pussies", but at the same time, you can't win the championship without a big man who can bang inside. The closest I've seen a team come is the Nowitzki led 2006 Mavericks that didn't have an answer for Shaq.
  • karen lotz
Was Dampier on that Mavs team or did he get brought in afterward? Not that he's really a viable big, but he is a big.
  • friendfromlowry
Too bad Oden is STILL hurt -- him vs Griffin woulda been a sweet match-up.
Anyone else pumped to see the John Wall debut tomorrow?

He was, but he was a sub. Desagna Diop was the starter towards the end of the year. Either way, not good enough bigs to win the championship.

Wow, how could I forget that?

Yeah Wall should be a pretty nice NBAer. Seems like there are really a lot of good young stars all over the league this year.

I always forget shit like that from a couple years ago and then I'm always like, "wow, really?" too.

And the whole point about these more finesse big men, it really just proves the existence of the absolute premium on a franchise center good enough to win you the championship.

As much as dynasty wants to think Gasol is a finesse big man, he's not. He happens to be a banger that is SO skilled that he can hit the jumper if he needs to. If he wasn't a banger, the Lakers don't win the championship against the physical frontcourt of the Celtics, because Bynum wouldn't be good enough to be the only banger down there.

These kids biggest problem is that they are leaving early. I'm not syaing they would be all-stars but they def could have used a few more years in college.

I have to disagree about Conley, I think the kid is going to be a very good NBA player. He had a slow start but from what I have read it sounds like the kid is starting to "get it". He had a solid preseason and opened up the season with 23, 8 and 5 last night.
