Random NBA chatter

Oden probably hasn't played a full season of basketball since 8th grade.

He and every other OSU player drafted in the last 5 years has been a bust. With the exception of Conley.
  • ytownfootball
Well, I think we differ on what a bust is then. Playing with the elite players of the league for an extended period of time isn't a bust to me. I guess you're saying they have to be lighting it up not to be, which I don't agree with.

Well it's possible considering the decline of the center position in the league. Defensively I would definitely put him in that top 4 or 5 list. Offensively he was atrocious if I remember correctly from the Portland games I watched. I watched every game of his one season at OSU and I just never saw a number 1 pick. I remember talking with my dad when he was picked 1st and saying wow. He most likely will never be healthy though.

He probably won't which kinda sucks.

What is your definition of a bust then? Someone who spends the majority of their careers in the D League like Byron and Cook? Or "Playing" with elite players from the bench like Koufos?
  • bigdaddy2003
Well to me Daequan Cook should have never went pro after 1 season at OSU. He made himself a bust.

Agreed. The only one of those guys that should have left was Oden.
  • ytownfootball
I consider getting a paycheck for playing a damn game not a bust. Most of these guys could go 5 years in the league and never have to work again, I'd love to be as good as a bust if that was the case.

But of all the guys that did leave early, he is having the most success. He'll probably last longer than any of them.
  • karen lotz
Ok chief, so there haven't been any busts as long as they made a few bucks. Keep back pedaling.
  • ytownfootball
I don't back pedal domer, re-read if comprehension isn't your strong suit.
  • karen lotz
You said making money for playing a game is not a bust. So in your opinion, in the history of professional sports there haven't been any busts?? Ryan Leaf wasn't a monumental bust?
  • bigdaddy2003
This is pretty simple. Oden - bust, Conley - not a bust, Cook - bust-ish, and Turner - early but I'm guessing not a bust. I'm a big OSU fan but the facts are there.
  • ytownfootball
You try too hard to argue with Ohio State fans, you're damn comical.

Sure there are busts, don't go getting all nit picky. In my opinion not enough time has passed for them to be labeled busts yet. Is that clear enough for you? Not that I really care if it is.
  • karen lotz
I'm an OSU basketball fan. I'm not trying to argue with OSU fans. Read bigdaddy's post above yours.
  • ytownfootball
That's his opinion, that's fine. You seem to have an issue with my opinion though as it doesn't match yours...tough shit.
  • karen lotz
His opinion doesn't match yours either, but you don't have an issue with that? Tough shit, chief.

He at least has the ability to speak his mind without being a complete dick like you, I know it must be tough to shed the gene pool ramifications you're dealt but try harder.

Explain how I was a dick and how the post I quoted isn't you being a dick.

You don't know when to stop digging the hole you're in, you've been digging all season, just give it up.

I have a hard time labeling Cook to be too much of a bust. I mean he was a solid contributor off of the bench for Miami, which is about what you can reasonably expect for where he was drafted, in the late first round. NBA drafts are a big time crapshoot. There are usually one or two can't miss prospects, a handful of guys that aren't obvious choices but you have a good idea that they will probably pan out well, and then from pick number 7-8 or so on, its hard to tell who is going to go on to be a solid NBA player and who will go on to have a career in the D League. He hasn't been Aaron Brooks or Carl Landry, who were both drafted around him, but he is no Javaris Crittenton, Jason Smith, Tiago Splitter, etc who were drafted around him. I think you can make a case for Cook to be a bust, but there are definitely way way way worse busts. Conley has panned out to be ok. Oden, Koufos, and Mullens will probably go down as busts.

EDIT: I guess Tiago Splitter was some guy who the Spurs drafted and let stay overseas to develop and he just now joined their team. I had just never heard a blip about him in the NBA before so I named him as a bust. Probably should let the jury stay out on him.
  • bigdaddy2003
Cook may not be a full on bust but I believe he could have done himself a favor by sticking around college for another year or two.
  • friendfromlowry
Oden's about one more injury away from being a bust.

Brandon Jennings with a triple double tonight. Him and Bogut are quickly becoming one of the best PG/C combos in the league

This has to be one of the worst comments I've ever heard regarding professional sports.
