NFL ruling for hit on a defenseless player

I guess. I dont know if Im going out to try and hurt someone though. Im trying to do my job, tackle, and not let the other team score. It seems too many guys are literally trying to hurt their opponent in todays football. If someone gets hurt in the course of you trying make a play than fine. But deliberately trying to hurt someone is just weird.

Mental aspect of the game. You think guys thought twice about running a crossing pattern with Ronnie Lott lurking. Sure as shit they did!

Harrison to be fined 75,000 dollars

Yet Brandon Meriwether was only fined $50,000 for his hit on Heap.

    Laughable.

I really believe there should be a rule that if a flag was not thrown, the player cannot receive a fine.

Officials miss penaltys. Don't know how they missed the Harrison one, but it happens.

Just saw that Harrison got fined $75,000 for being a "repeat offender." Being fined more than Meriweather is understandable then.

Why was Dunta fined??! He led with shoulder to the CHEST, AND Desean was running with the ball . Bullshit.

I called him a thug and I'm sticking by it....cause that is what he is. Sure football is a violent sport, but "unnecessary roughness" penalties have been around since the beginning of the sport. If a helmet and forearm underneath the chin strap is not unnecessary roughness, then I don't know what is. It's one thing to try to seperate the ball from the reciever....it's another thing to try to seperate his head. From what he said, and from the fact that he is a 'repeat offender', I don't know what else to call him but a thug. He got off easy with that fine. I'd have docked him 1 game for every one that Massaquoi is out.
He is an accident waiting to happen. Maybe the next guy doesn't get up.

A lot of NFL players like the "thug" personna. There is no place in the game for players that go out of their way to hurt oyher players. Injuries happen in the natural flow of the game. But to try to do it is BS.

I say on SC last night a great point:

These players ALL know the danger. Playing in the NFL isn't a right, it's a privilege. If they don't want to risk injury getting hit, don't play. It's part of the game.

You think the NFL gave a flying fuck when Jack Tatum was hitting people? Sure, but not enough to change anything.

But nowadays, when literally every mistake can result in a lawsuit, the NFL "has" to give a shit. Unfortunately, it's at the expense of the enjoyment and the playing of the game.

They do, but honestly, if a play is so intentional and violent, an official shouldn't miss it.

Plus it's a team rule that whenever a Steeler player is fined, it is divided among all the players. So you're talking about 1500 dollars per man. Chump change to these guys.

    Harrison is a jerk.
  • Hb31187
Dunta Robinson getting fined is a complete and total joke.

Let's be honest, I'd be willing to be that many of you who are bashing Harrison love it when one of your players lay someone out even if it's "dirty." Go back and read the Browns-Bengals thread and read how many "loved" the hit that TJ Ward put on Jordan Shipley. There was a lot of praise for him because of that hit. But when it's a player on a team you hate....they're a "thug" in your eyes.

    Interesting.
