Week 5: Atlanta Falcons @ Cleveland Browns

KR1245Non;511614 wrote:That is somewhat true. Let's say you were a big NBA in the early 90s and stopped watching closely for the last 15 years. You're not going to be as knowledgeable about the NBA as somebody who has followed a lot the past few years even though it's still basketball. It's a little different for the NFL and football because it's a more popular sport but overall, yes, the Steelers success has meant more widespread interest in the game and more knowledge.
How do you explain people like Capone? This is one of the dumbest arguments that I have ever heard. I cant understand how somebody could actually buy into this crap. Browns fans watch just as much football as Steeler fans. Your team needs to be in the playoffs for you to understand whats going on? Thats basically the argument that you're making. I guess you're right and everybody else on here is wrong.. -

I have interest in hockey. I have become a Wings fan over the years through a friend; but I still to this day, I can not tell you how offsides comes about. So no, just because someone has interest in something doesn't mean they gain more knowledge about it. -
NonFab4Runner;511616 wrote:More interest yes. Knowledge no. Did you know it's possible to take an interest in the Cavs AND the Browns? And maybe even the Indians, too! Possibly not since your city has to NBA team. It has been done believe it or not.
A lot of people shifted their attention to college more, Ohio State mostly. That means following more web sites and recruiting and the college landscape as a whole. That interest and to the extent that you follow a particular sport is also knowledge, I think. Not just interest unless you can't comprehend what you're watching or reading about. -
BR1986FBThe argument is crap. I bet I take more supplements than the people that actually manufacture them or the scientists that do the studies on them. Does that make me more knowledgeable? I bet I eat more steak than Bobby Flay but does that mean I'm more knowledgeable about it and could prepare it better?

That seems to be the case. -

Wtf are you talking about? This has nothing to do with anything we have been talking about. Your original argument is that Steelers fans know more about the game of football because their team is good. So these people that turned their attention to OSU football (but are still Browns fans) shoud still know a lot about the game itself, no? Since OSU is good and everything.Non;511622 wrote:A lot of people shifted their attention to college more, Ohio State mostly. trep14Man this Non guy is really getting you guys to bite hard on his trolling. At this point is pretty clear he is just grasping at straws because his argument is getting dumber by the minute. Good team =/= more knowledgeable fans. If anything it is the opposite, as good teams are more likely to just grab the interest of very casual fans. I would be willing to bet there are Steelers fans out there that think Jerome Bettis still plays for the team.

Agree with the comment on Bettis.
The thing about it is that it seems very strange/out of character. -

No it's not the same. Somebody who follows high school football religiously and doesn't care much for college and the NFL doesn't just know a lot about the college game and NFL because they follow some form of football. There are different strategies, coaching styles, teams, the draft, free agency, recruiting, and all that stuff.
I can't believe you guys are struggling with this that much. -

Keep digging. You're getting pwned by at least 3 ppl on here. Nice fail. -
NonWe've had threads on here before where some posters said they don't watch the NFL that much anymore. They stated that college is more exciting.
Those people who are junkies for college and follow all of the college teams and players and go to college games and may just watch the NFL casually, they're not as hip to the NFL. Even though it's football, there are a lot strategies, scenarios, intricacies that you're going to see play out week after week. -
BR1986FBThey don't have college football in PA?
-
se-alumNon;511173 wrote:I think it is pretty easy, actually.
Browns fans have gone to games and they usually are over at halftime so the fans leave or all they can do is drink and act like morons.
Steelers have been in a lot of big games and important games so the fans have been exposed to the best football, week after week.
This is quite possibly the worst attempt at a logical response I've ever seen. Being knowledgeable about the game of football has zero correlation to how good a fans team is. That's like saying I'm good at basketball because I like Michael Jordan. It doesn't even make sense. Football fans watch many teams play throughout the season, so I imagine their football IQ raises and lowers depending on the teams playing in the game?? lol -

And what dpes this have to do with Browns fans that follow NFL football? That's where your argument started. You said Steelers fans know more about football than Browns fans because they watch good football. I fail to see what any of this has to do with OSU fans, Cavs, fans or any other fans you are trying to use. Your argument is Steelers v. Browns fans. Now you're just veering off in random directions trying to say that some Browns fans may be more interested in other teams now. That might be true. It still has zero to do with the knowledge of Browns fans that watch week in and week out.Non;511654 wrote:We've had threads on here before where some posters said they don't watch the NFL that much anymore. Disagree. After reading all the posts I would say Non is winning this going away. And for you BR, If you think you know more than me about the Steelers, you boy are dead wrong. -
NonThe Browns have had a lot of seasons that have been forgettable. Who cares what happened.
The Steelers, on the otherhand, have given the fans countless great games and dramatic moments and the experiences that come with that. It's been more fun for them following the NFL. And with that experience comes great knowledge as well. -

Boy? C'mon now...I'm not the one posting from my 4th period study hall.
What a shock, a Steeler "fan" siding with a Steeler "fan." Who would have thought.
By the nonsensical bullshit I'm seeing posted by a usually level headed poster, I still think that Capone stole his password. -

I think someone may have an alter ego and it's now coming to light. -

*Yawn* This is about the 4th time you said this. Flipping/changing the words around doesn't add to your argument. The only thing you have proven is that Steelers fans are idiots if they actually believe this bullshit.
How do you explain the Browns fans who are in their 50s+? Did their football knowledge drop to below average since the Browns aren't doing too well now? LMAO.
Using your highly flawed and idiotic logic, I bet the Tamp Bay Rays fans are more knowledgeable than Cubs fans when it comes to baseball. -

Yeah that's what I said. And it's true.
Overall the Steelers fan base has benefited from good football. They've had a favorable experience. More big games to watch. More big wins to celebrate. More reason to buy merchandise. More reason to follow the entire NFL game.
What I'm saying is the Cavs fans had a brief glimpse of this culture. Fans were watching the NBA around the clock and hanging on every word from the media. Those junkies are going to know more about the NBA now than just somebody who liked it a lot in 1992.
A lot of Ohio football fans have followed the Buckeyes more closely. They decided to hang their hat on the college game in recent years because they were tired of seeing the Steelers win and the Browns lose. So they follow all of the recruiting news and read up on every player in the country. They record every game and know every bad call and questionable play and interesting scenario. That information gathering for college football doesn't make you as much of an expert on the NFL. There's no question about it. -

I've explained it many different ways because you're a bunch of rockheads. But I'll also repeat some of the earlier points because I know they're accurate. -

Rockheads? We have provided plenty examples to choose from to prove why you are way off, and all you do is say the same thing. Sounds like someone who has nothing to offer other than a troll statement in a Browns thread.
Want another example that probably won't go through your thick head? Your homeboy steelers fan capone posted a few weeks ago that Joe Thomas is overrated. Yeah sounds like a more knowledgeable fan to me. /sarcasm -

No shit. The funny part about this is that it IS a pure troll action. He wasn't provoked by anyone to come on this thread and suddenly he spouts off something about "Browns fans thinking they are going to rule the NFL after one win" like someone with Tourettes or some shit like that and it escalates.like_that;511699 wrote:Rockheads? I don't see Browns fans doing that on Steelers threads....but a little "birdie" told me it's probablty going to start. -
NonI think class is over for the day. I just had a pretty convincing stretch of dominance on this thread.
