Even as a Ravens fan I am hoping the Browns can pull out another W.

Yeah, but Baltimore was when they finally started running the offense around Hillis, wasn't it? That was the big thing that I think changed things for them -- focusing on the power back who can punish a defense, instead of the other skill guys who generally are in the lower tier of the league for their positions. With Hillis eating 20-30 carries, a mediocre quarterback can be an effective caretaker. Without that, I think they'd be feeling more pressure to make something happen. And, as Carolina can attest, at this stage of his career, when a guy like Delhomme feels he needs to make something happen, only bad things will go down.

Problem I have with Hillis (and it's not necessarily a bad thing) is that with the way he runs, I don't see him making it a full season taking 25 carries per game. It's too bad he had those fumbles early against TB and went into Mangini's "doghouse" or we may have been looking at a different outcome. Kinda like old school Jamal Lewis, he seems to get better as he gets more carries and the game wears on.

Delhomme's problem is that he has the "frog eyes/tadpole stomach syndrome." The mind/heart says "gunslinger" while the body/skillset says "hit your tight ends, dump the ball off to backs and make SAFE passes, don't force it."

The Browns needed to establish an identity and that is that they are a RUNNING team. They need to try to play decent defense, run the ball and avoid shootouts. If they can do THAT, they will be in almost every game. Winning them is another story. Along with Detroit they may be the best "bad team" in the NFL right now.

I feel bad for guys like Ewok and Heretic...these guys are really dumbing down the Steeler fan base.

That's ok. It's just refreshing to be able to talk INTELLIGENT FOOTBALL with a fan of another fan base (Heretic) before Capone drops a Tootsie Roll in the pool.

The words "intelligent" and "Heretic"...should never be in the same sentence. That is infraction worthy.

Not the only monthly thing you have. Heh heh heh. Auntie Flow.

BR, I see what you mean. If Hillis is banged up now after two games of a big workload, it would be questionable how well he could hold up for a full season. Which would be a shame for you guys, as I think that if a team can do one important thing really well, it can keep them in games and at least in position to win. And if you're not that good of a team overall, having the run game being your strongest point is the best situation, as you'll be able to eat clock and keep the ball out of the other team's hands if things go well.

Which is why you need at least TWO backs now it seems. I was hoping Hardesty was going to be a 1-2 punch with either Harrison or Hillis but Hardesty is out and Harrison seems to be deep, deep in the doghouse. Only guy left is James Davis and he seems to be getting only a few token touches.

Read a story about Daboll's (Browns' shitty O-Coordinator) philosophy on the backs early on and he was trying to split carries. Apparently both Hillis & Harrison need at least 20 touches to get on a roll. Now he's just giving it to the guy with the hot hand which is Hillis.

Oh...and BTW, for those of you less intelligent (that specifically means you Capone/Modell and nobody else), I leave my office at 4pm EST, which is in about 29 minutes. From that time until about 7:30-8am on Monday 10/11 I will NOT be on Ohio Chatter. So....there's no need to be screaming "where's BR? Is he hiding?" OR "Where's BR? Why isn't he here to gloat?" regardless of the Browns/Falcons games outcome.

I love that you have to explain why you are not going to be on a message board for the weekend...lmao.

We need to vBookie the odds of Modell actually NOT making "where you at?" posts.

    I'm starting with:
Modell calls out BR for not being glued to computer: 1/1500
Modell remembers the 500 times he's been told BR isn't on computer during weekend and waits until Monday to say anything directed towards BR: 1500/1

Seems pretty fair. Although the odds might need raised to bigger numbers. Might be too conservative in those estimates.

Before the Browns/TB game I explained that I don't get on here on weekends. Almost everybody saw it and the fool has been pulling the "Waaaarrriors come out to pla-aaay" crap with me the last couple of weeks like I'm in hiding or something. Everyone on here who saw it calls him a "dumbass" and tells him I told them I don't get on here.

I haven't actually bet the VaginaBucks yet but this might be a good call.

Well, yeah! EVERYONE should know that the ONLY important aspect of being a sports fan is your ability to immediately hop on the Internet during/after the game to talk trash and eat crow. Only CCs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! have lives away from the computer screen.

And to think I thought the ONLY important aspect of being a sports fan was being more "knowledgeable" because your team won more frequently?

I've been slammed at work so I haven't been able to respond.

But as far as the Pirates, there aren't that many fans left.

I'm not saying every single fan is a brain dead moron but overall the Red Sox have more fans and more knowledgeable fans about current MLB because the team has given them more reason to follow in recent years.

Look at high school football or high school basketball. The teams that are constantly in the tournament and playoffs. The fans get caught up in it. They're going on road trips to every game. Watching the other teams in the area, getting on message boards each week to talk about the games.

If you're in a fan base of a softball team that's always good and plays in big tournaments, the dads are going to end up going to other games when their team isn't playing. Scouting. Like I said, just getting caught up in it.

With the NFL we're talking about millions of fans so it's a much larger pool but it still ends up working out the same where the better the team, the more playoff games, the more reason to follow, the more in tune the fans will be. It's unofficial at this point, I guess, but it only takes a little common sense to realize this.

Following a winning team has nothing to do with gaining knowledge. It has everything to do with gaining happiness.

I've been a Browns, Indians, Cavs, and Buckeyes fan my whole life. I've seen some very good teams and some very bad teams. But through it all, I've continued to follow those teams and the sports they are in no matter the level of success. And I didn't feel any dumber during the bad years. Very bad argument.

When you're dumber you probably don't feel dumber because you're too dumb to realize it.
