Is there a better professional soccer squad than Chelsea?
-
killdeerI'm looking at the EPL season, and now the Champions League......
I am not sure that any team in domestic professional leagues or in European action looks as solid and as deep as Chelsea.....
perhaps Bayern Munich is a close second... -
AutomatikAre you serious about Bayern?
Chelsea is very solid this year. I look for them to repeat in the EPL. They actually just dropped their first match last week. I haven't caught as much of the EPL as I'd like, but I did watch their opening match.....they were on fire.
I hope to watch Arsenal/Chelsea this Sunday.....should be a good one. -
Laley23Bayern? The team that has...what...2 wins in 6 matches? I think Ill pass.
Chelsea is playing lights out right now. They and Barcelona (deepest, and most talented, imo) are the top two teams in Europe. I dont really think it is very close. But I am willing to hear some arguments (ie, Man City finally becoming a team and not a bunch of stars). -
lhslep134They're prone to the occasional slipup (although Man City is a great team), but yeah they're the most talented club in the world except Barca.
-
I Wear PantsI love watching Chelsea play.

killdeerBarca is definitely in the conversation...
however, Chelsea looks like one of the most intimidating sides in history right now...
scoff at Bayern Munich at your peril...despite their domestic record...if you look at a side with Muller, and Schweinstieger, and Klose, and Robben..... -

I don't see Bayern making much noise in the champions league, but you never know. They will probably win the Bundesliga though.....woohoo! I rarely watch that league. -

All we can do is look at their record. I mean, you cant tell me on paper Real Madrid isnt a top 5 club with Higuain, Ronaldo, Ramos, Casillas, Benzema, Ozil, etc. But that certainly is not the case...at least not imo.killdeer;500981 wrote:Barca is definitely in the conversation...

AutomatikI never new Ozil went to Madrid...that kid is a player!

DeyDurkie5Chelsea is by far the best club in the world, so to answer your question no there is no better club. As for Bayern, come on man!
A club I see coming up to the ranks of top 4 in premiere league is Tottenham. Liverpool looks like shit this year, so I look for them to drop down out of that top 6-8 range of the EPL -

I've been so disappointed in my Reds this year. It's not even fun watching them anymore. Even when they tie, it's like they're struggling to keep up. I don't know wtf is going on, but they need to turn it around soon. -
AutomatikI thought replacing Rafa would help....guess not. I would be worried....if the slide continues, obviously players will want to bolt. You know Torres wants to test the waters elsewhere.

Yeah but at this point I'll take a 100% Ngog over an 85% Torres. He's been a shell of his former self.
I can't tell if it's a lack of motivation or a lack of talent, but somethings off. In terms of purely managing, I think Hodgson is doing a fine job, but obviously there's always more than what the eye sees or ears hear. -
Laley23I think Torres is bound to be back in Spain soon. I think when everyone (ie, the Spaniards/South Americans) left Liverpool (Benitez, Mascherano, Alonso, Luis Garcia) he kind of felt alone. I know some player come out and say it and some dont, but when you have players from all over the world, I think its impossible to not get close with compatriots or those with similar culture/language/etc. Right now it is just he, Pepe Reina and Raul Merieles.

They are playing the best right now, and I would saw they are by far the best in the EPL. But I dont think they are too far ahead of Barca, though at the current state would probably win if they teamed up. -
Murdski99I would agree that you have to rank Chelsea at #1 in the world at the moment. This is going purely on results and the consistency of their performances this year. Barcelona to me is obviously the second choice but have every right to be argued as the best team. These two to me are clearly heads above everyone else at the moment. Just right behind these top two i would say is a group that includes Inter, Real, Manchester United (not CITY), AC Milan, Arsenal, and maybe you could throw Bayern into that group as well.

If you're going to throw Arsenal in there you have to include Man City who just beat Chelsea. -
sportchamppsChelsea is a great side but their team is old and could have a letdown at any time last year they had a good start and then went on a losing streak and the same thing could happen at any time. Arsenal is great when healthy but has no depth if i had to pick one team i take barcelona... Man City could be great if they learn to come together as a team so far adam johnson has looked great this year and while tevez scored the lone goal last week he needs to learn to pass the ball and does anyone think he has gained some weight. At the same time Man U has to be in the discussion despite their struggle becasue if beratov and rooney can get going at the same time they could score some serious goals on anyone
-
I Wear PantsI think reports of Chelsea's demise via aging have been greatly exaggerated.

Age has no affects on that team... -

You can't consider City among the elite until they play in Europe's Elite competition, the UEFA Champions League. As for the age of the Chelsea squad it wont catch up with them still for a couple of years. -
sportchamppstheir age caught up to them last season toward the middle (i think they went winless 10 in a row) and man u actually passed them till they went into the tank at the end of last season not to mention the best team they have played in the premier league this season beat them. Chelsea has also lost 2 out of their last three (losses to newcastle and man city and a win against Marseille) That said the top 4 in the premier league should look pretty much like the top 4 now.
-
rock_knutneLOL.......a 3 point lead over Manchester United early in the year and Chelsea should be annointed Premiership champions. Let's see what happens down the stretch, that's when the Premiership is won.
As for the Champions League, I'll take a wait and see approach although Ancelloti knows how to win at that level. -

Madrid will be back soon with Mourinho there, he's a little cocky bastard but the guy can win and he has a loaded team in Madrid.Laley23;501163 wrote:All we can do is look at their record. SportsAndLadyNot related to the thread, but Jozy Altidore got the start up top with Guisseppe Rossi today for Villareal. It's 2-1 in the 60th minute, no goals from Jozy.
