Reds Vs. Giants: Game 1

  • osu45804
With the Cardinals probably getting a sweep the next few games vs. the Pirates these next few @ San Francisco will be even bigger. Coming out West I was hoping for a good showing and so far at 5-1 that's very good. I'd say 2 out of 3 this series to make it a 7-2 trip out West would look very good.

    Starters:

    Edinson Volquez ( 3 - 1 ) 4.98 ERA Vs. Matt Cain ( 9 - 10 ) 3.11 ERA

Sure hope EV can keep his pitch count down and not be at like 80+ pitches after 5 Innings. Bronson gave the bullpen a good day off yesterday with 7 strong Innings. Hopefully we can get that out of EV tonight as well.

Once again the Reds will be on ESPN2 for this one. Hope they have a better outing than the last time they were on National TV...

7-2 on this west road trip would be outstanding! The Reds are 5-1 with 3 more games against another solid opponent in San Fran. 1-2 against them isnt the end of the world. Looking at the small picture this series vs San Fran and the Cardinals vs the Pirates looks like a big deal but a 6-3 road trip to the West used to mean at least 5-6 losses so I wont be devastated with 1-2 vs the Giants. The Reds have the easiest schedule left with the Cardinals having just as easy so both teams will ebb and flow. The Cardinals have 3.5 games to catch up, the Reds take 2 of 3 from after this road trip here on out look for a division win, IMO.

Interesting note -- the Reds have won 97 of their last 162 games

I would not be upset with 1 win this series, 2 would be amazing.

I hope we see the all LH outfield tonight, I'm sure Nix will be in there.

Why has Nix been getting so much more PT than Heisey? Since Gomes' struggles have begun it has seemed like that between the two, Nix gets 2 starts for every Heisey start.

Dusty is in love with Nix. That's the only reason I can think of...

Nix has been hitting well lately compared to Heisey, and Nix is left handed, so he is the logical choice against righties. From the beginning of the season I think the plan was to pretty much platoon Gomes and Nix, which would give Gomes the majority of the starts. When Gomes was so hot early, he got a lot of starts vs. righties also. So it looks like it is getting to where it was designed in the spring. On defense it looks like Gomes is more sure handed, but Nix can get to balls better.

I would like to see Heisey start more against left handers in place of Bruce though.

    Record since Rolen acquisition?

Record since Phillips moved out of the 4 hole?

Record since Dusty was given all the signs of losing his job earlier this year?

I guess you are right, Nix has hit .382 (21/55) since July 1st

Heisey is hitting .277 (18/65) in that same time span. I love watching Heisey play and I feel like he is more versatile (able to bunt, run, field) than Nix. Nix's numbers are impressive though

Nix to his credit has been a line drive machine of late after not playing hardly at all

Anyone else's FSN really, really off as far as sound and video?? Reminds me of the old Godzillas movies.

Looked like Dusty should have stacked 4 lefty batters in a row and left Rolen out from in between the first two and the last two as rolen made the key out in the top of the first, a K with one out and two on.

Looks like the Reds may have missed their only chance of the game, and maybe the series, to take the lead as the first four batters reach and the giants score 3 runs before any are out.

On a positive note, Bruce looks like he has his head in the game with good hustle getting over to field the ball off the fence in dead center field. Edmonds went back near the wall before he gave up and was too close to the wall to get the carom. Do you think Stubbs would have run that ball down in the air?

Edinson isn't going to make it through 3 innings at this rate...
  • osu45804
    Pretty pathetic 1st Inning

At least you got 8 more innings
  • wildcats20
He went around. Pablo should be out at 2nd, why the hell did they not appeal to first??
