Cairo played that tag perfectly on Sandoval coming in to 2nd when to took his hand away, and then Cairo tagged him on the leg before he got any body part on the bag, but the ump did not see it correctly and called him safe!

Giants pen was worked pretty good the last couple days, Cain has an extra day off before his next start.

It is entirely possible that the Reds come back to Cincy for the game with Cubs Friday night to start the homestand, after a 5-4 road trip, and they'll be tied with the Cards and a game back in the loss column!

Reds have no more outfielders on the 40 man roster than the six they have on the 25 man roster. With Nix and Edmonds possibly headed to the DL, what do they do? 60 day DL Edmonds with his severe injury that is probably out for the season, and replace him with Balentein? The trouble with that is it gives 4 right handed hitting outfielders, and just one lefty, with all the infielders but Votto, and both catchers being right handed. I think you bring up Francisco for Edmonds, and leave Cabrera on the DL until Sep 1, and hopefully Nix won't be out very long with the sprained ankle.

    Bring up Dickerson, oh wait.

I doubt Nix goes on the DL. He stayed in to run the bases so it shouldn't be THAT bad.

I love Balentien, I would be very happy if Edmonds goes for him, but I don't see them 60day DLing Edmonds.

I would have loved to see how that game would have played out if Rolen's two run triple would have come in the first inning to stake the Reds to a 2-0 lead, and also if the umps would have allowed the first inning strike-em-out, throw-em-out DP to get out of the inning with Volquez still in there.

After reading John Fay's blurb about the injuries, I predict that before tomorrow's game it will be Jared Burton up for Smith, and Francisco up for a DL'd Edmonds. And they now have a 40 man roster spot available with Springer undergoing herniated disc surgery.

awesome, that would allow Balentien to come up without cutting someone like DRH. I still don't think he'll get a shot, Corky will probably get that 40man spot on Sept 1.

Burton is hurt, if they need another arm in the pen this series look for LeCure, DRH, or de Rosario.

maybe I just don't understand the standings, but the Reds are 2.5 games ahead...so even IF they lose the remaining games of this series....how would they be tied with the Cardinals?

Reds have an off day on Thursday, Cards play @ Washington on Thursday.
