Reds Vs. Giants: Game 1
-
JugheadThis guy behind home has been inconsistent from batter to batter.
Regardless, Volquez looked like shit from the first pitch. -
mhs95_06The umps failure to call a batter out on a check swing that went too far costs the Reds two outs and two bases! The strike-em-out, throw-em-out double play to end the inning was negated by the 1st base ump's failure to call it.
Do you think the fact that because the home plate ump did not call strike three as he did not call a swing, and therefore the 2nd base ump did not call the runner out when he was tagged, would have made a good argument for SF to neutralize calling it a double play because the runner thought it was ball four, was the reason the first base ump called it no swing? He took the easy way out to avoid a rhubarb with the home team! -

First base ump had nothing to do with it, unfortunately. No one, Ramon or Laz(or however you spell it) didn't appeal to 1st. If I'm Ramon I'm screaming and yelling for an appeal on that. He was very obvious on the replay that he went around and I think it would have been called that way by the 1st base ump. -
mhs95_06Looks like the Reds' "Dominican Dandies" starting pitchers may not be up to the task of the pressure of the final weeks of the stretch drive to the playoffs.
-
CinciX12Yeah, thats all I need to see. We still are having problems with the guys who have been in these kinda games down the stretch before.
-
mhs95_06Aubrey Huff not getting much reward for his defnesive efforts in the 3rd. Reds get a bad break when Votto's drive bounces over the wall with 2 outs taking a certain RBI away as Nix certainly would have scored from first if it weren't for the book rule double.
-
mhs95_06Cain didn't get Rolen for the key out in the 3rd, and the lead is cut to 5-2!
-
mhs95_06That's bad news! Heisey in for Nix straight up with no pitching change to start the bottom of the 3rd! Must have been some kind of baserunning injury for Nix!
-
mhs95_06And the Giants get the 2 runs right back on another drive to the CF fence, this one by Torres that goes over the fence for a 2 run HR.
-
wildcats20Um....he was safe at first?

Maybe they have a rule that expressly prohibits a change in the call on an appeal if it creates a dilemma later in the same play on a situation where no call was needed based on the call that was wanted to be appealed. -
wildcats20Doubt it.

Maybe it is an unwritten rule that the umpires have a quiet unofficial agreement among themselves that they won't do it. -
wildcats20Regardless, it was a dumb ass decision by Ramon and Laz to no appeal the play. It was clearly a swing and it should have just been called a strike at the plate.
-
mhs95_06Is that another hamate bone problem, this time for Edmonds? That's two Reds who have left the first game in SF due to injury. Dusty didn't want to bring back Cabrera in SF because he thought SF was prone to injuries, and it looks like he was right! Even thought the weather tonight is unseasonably warm for SF.
-
Mooney44CardsCain has 95 pitches. How good is the Giants bullpen sans Brian "Beach Boy" Wilson?
-
wildcats20Edmonds is a strained right oblique. And Nix is a sprained left ankle.
-
mhs95_06Stubbs has had good performance hitting coming in for an injured or ejected hitter with two strikes! He came in for Votto and crushed it for a double the last Reds home game, and tonight came in for Edmonds and crushed it for an out to LF.
-
mhs95_06Did Votto call Bray off that bunt? He then bobbled it and almost didn't even get the out at first.
-
wildcats20Is Joe not doing the game tonight on ESPN2??
-
mhs95_06Seems awful strange that the Giants would send Cain out to start the 8th with a 5 run lead after throwing 113 pitches over the first 7 innings.
-
wildcats20I was thinking the same thing mhs. But it got through it pretty quickly.
-
wildcats20Ugh...I'm done watching this.

Why wear him out any more in the midst of the stretch drive to the playoffs. -
wildcats20So just flipped back to the game and he really missed that call?!?!?
Pablo slid through the base lifted his left arm up, NEVER HIT THE BASE with any part of his body until after Cairo tagged him on the hip. With the ump standing there looking directly at the play and he calls him safe.
I realize the game is probably over, but good God; it wasn't even close.
