CinciX12How much money is Man City willing to spend to still not be good?
-
Laley23Three years before Abu Dhabi Group:
15th - 43 pts
14th - 42 pts
9th - 55 pts
Two years since purchase by Adu Dhabi:
10th - 50 pts
5th - 67 pts
To think Man City isnt improving significantly is pretty crazy to me. A 17 point jump in just their second year, and the first year in which they really had the "paid" players (Barry, Ade, Tevez, Toure, Bellamy). With the additions of Silva, Yaya Toure, etc they should be a top 4 team. The biggest question is if Silva and Toure can adjust to English football from Spanish style. I have little doubts that Toure will, but Silva may struggle. I actually think Donovan wold be a better addition to them than Silva. -
hoops23Yeah, Man City is definitely an improving club, as Laley pointed out above.

It would be awesome to see Donovan with Man City or Everton but sadly I think the MLS doesn't let it happen.Mulva;429367 wrote:I joined the fantasy league. Also, Landon Donovan possibly on his way back to the EPL?

AutomatikGUNNERS!
Just read that RVP snagged #10 from that prick Gallas. Maybe this will help him not be as fragile as an adolescent girl. -
sportchamppsI heard Man City offer Donovan 16 mil and about a 30 mil transfer fee and MLS turned it down but Man city said there is still alot of summer left to sign him
-
ohiobucks1I heard the offer was 16 million to the MLS, and 70k a week for donovan
-
CinciX12I read somewhere that his estimated value was between 8-10 million. City offered 7 million. He currently makes a penny over 2 million in LA.
With Toure (16 million) a season and Silva, I dont know see the interest in Donovan. Even if they did sign him he is going to have to work his ass off to get first-team and more than likely be a substitute. -
NilesPacManWell, as much as I think Donovan just needs to be in Europe permanently to keep his play at a high level, I wouldn't want him to end up at Manchester City. As previously mentioned, they've already paid for Toure and Silva. If he's going to go across the pond, he needs to have decent playing time for it actually to work. He'd be way better off playing for an MLS club than sitting on the bench of a European club, so I'm glad MLS rejected this specific deal.
However, he definitely needs to play overseas. As much as I support the MLS, the top leagues are way better than it, and I'd rather watch an EPL over an MLS any day. This only hurts his development... -
Laley23
HE can easily beat out Silva. His play at Everton was much better than Silva was all of last year and really at most any time of his stint with Valencia. Toure is a CDM, that isnt even who he will compete against. Donovan can play either wing, or with outside mid. Thats 4 positions he would be battling for. Im pretty confident he would be able to get regular playing time and start pretty frequently. Not to mention, Silva is gonna have a tough time adjusting to English style I think.CinciX12;430084 wrote:I read somewhere that his estimated value was between 8-10 million. City offered 7 million. rock_knutneMan City isn't going to win shit! Even with their sugar dady Arab owner, they are and will always be second fiddle in Manchester to United.
-
rock_knutneMan United signed Nemanja Vidic to a long term contract:

They are also in talks with Wayne Rooney and trying to lock him up long term too. -

I dont think anyone thinks they are winning the EPL. But they should and probably will be top 4 this year. They have more talent than everyone but Chelsea and ManU...and its pretty close on first XI, at least imo. Id expect them to be in 2nd most of the year and end up on 4th somehow. I dont know why I feel this, but I feel they are just gonna hang on to beat out Spurs, Villa, Everton, Arsenal, or L'Pool (one of those 5 will be 3rd, with Chelsea and ManU in the top 2 slots). -

Murdski99I agree with the amount of money that Man City has spent they're edging that much closer to the likes of United and Chelsea. I believe that they are now true title contenders considering the depth of their squad could now be argued as one of the strongest in the league. The Silva acquisition is a very debatable topic as he does posses undoubted quality with his touch and vision. He also has the quick burst of pace that could allow him to thrive from either a central play making position or out on the wings. But there also seems to be a bit of frailty to his game with his form ranging in consistency over the years. Not to mention with his slender frame he will have to adapt to the physicality of the premier league. I can see him becoming a real star at city, but just as easily see him making a quick return to Spain. Once again Chelsea and United will take the title race down to the wire. Unless United spend on a creative midfilder most likely the title will go back to Stamford Bridge with City close behind in third and Arsenal four. There are still to many holes in the liverpool squad and tottenham haven't brought in the new faces to re energize their squad for the champions league campaign. Then you look at Everton and Aston Villa, both great sides, but still lacking a bit of quality and financially to take them to the next step in the battle for 4th place. With the mid table teams being the same usual crowd, and Blackpool going strait back down accompanied by Wolves and Wigan.

Here we go with what? The only team who has as much talent and depth as United is Chelsea. Man City has made strides but they're not even close to those two. -
