Former Barcelona/Arsenal Star and France International, Theirry Henry joins the MLS

  • Laley23
Signs for the New York Red Bulls. GREAT addition for American soccer and will more than likely take over the leagues best player title if Landon Donovan leaves.

Too bad the Crew have already played the Red Bull twice this year..that'd be sweet to go see him.

I know many people who have Henry as their favorite player, so this will give them a chance to see him. I saw him and met him in Chicago when Barcelona came over for their summer tour 2 years ago. Great guy.

My favorite player ever! I'll definitely be in Cbus next summer when they play the Crew. Hopefully I'll actually be in NY by then!

Safe to say he'll probably lead the league in goals next year.

As for the handball.....it happend. He's not the one that blew the call.

    Heres a nice compilation.

Mostly older clips. He was the BOSS while at Arsenal.

Like I said on here when it was first reported: cool (sarcasm).

I mean he's a washed up star who no longer can play at the highest levels in Europe (on good teams), so I guess on that note he's just as talented as the best players in the MLS who don't make the jump to Europe.

This is exciting in terms of capitalizing on American interest in soccer, but continues to prove the point that the MLS is a minor league and will continue to be for the foreseeable future, despite the optimism of Americans.
  • ohiobucks1
He's not washed up...He just played in the WC 2 weeks ago... He's not as good as he once was, but he's still one of the top 200 players in the world
  • GOONx19
He's my favorite player, too. I got to see him play in Barcelona right after he signed. The tricks that he, Eto'o, and Ronaldinho were doing while warming up were incredible.

No one is claiming the MLS suddenly went from a minor league to a top flight european league. It's just cool that we got one of the best strikers to have played the game and we got him when he can still ball out on the MLS

Uhm no. He was a sub in the first game, he didn't play the 2nd, and was a sub in the third game. He wasn't good enough to crack the starting lineup of a team that didn't even make it out of the group stage. I really wouldn't consider that getting too much playing time in the WC.

    Nice try though.

He used to be in the top 200, it's arguable he's not even there anymore.

    Take your freaking blinders off.

It's exciting the MLS is adding a former superstar, but this dude is no longer even good enough to get significant playing time for his disgraced national team. He MIGHT succeed in the MLS, but even now I wouldn't bet on it like it's a sure thing.

We don't know if he can still ball. Like I said, he couldn't crack the lineup on a terribly underwhelming French national team.

Uhm yeah. He played. Which is what ohiobucks said.

My blinders? Did you watch him in the WC? He was France's best player when they put him in....Anelka cussed out the coach to get him more PT

SportsAndLady;423451 wrote:Uhm yeah. He played. Which is what ohiobucks said.

    Semantically, yes he played.

But he wasn't good enough to start, or good enough to be on the pitch even 20% of the time.

I wouldn't call 53/270 minutes exactly world beating, would you? If so, congratulations on being soccer retarded.

I do think he'll be able to score goals and be very productive in the MLS, but what does that say about the MLS? Congrats to us for being the burial ground of former stars?

    Yes, I did.

And no he wasn't their best player. If it was so apparent he was their best player when he was in, don't you think he would have played in more than 20% of the action?

lol yes we do, he still plays...the world cup isn't the only sporting event in the soccer world. He plays for club and still balls and still balls on the french team, hence Anelka cussing out hte coach so that Henry would get more playing time. Don't act like you know sports just because you have a radio show lol

Really? What club team did he start more than 40% of their games for? Are you referring to Barca where he was positioned to the bench and only scored 4 goals?

Don't act like Henry still has anything remotely European worthy left in the tank.

There's a giant gap between La Liga and the MLS.

No one has said there isn't a huge gap. But if you think that 95% of the EPL or La Liga clubs wouldnt take Henry for 2-3 years if he wanted to go there, you're out of your mind.

And BTW, its quite obvious that the reason he didn't play much on France was the coach...Hence Anelka's tirade

He has european still left hence the fact he scored 4 goals this season in limited play. When you have a starting lineup like Barca does, and you are getting up there in age yeah they aren't going to be playing you more than a 21 22 year old phenom. I guarantee you this he could still play and start on EPL and la liga teams that are middle of the pack.

and yes dumbshit, we know there is a gap between la liga and mls

Maybe that's why the coach was so hated? Ever think of that?

You're absolutely right. 95% of EPL and La Liga teams would take him TO BE ON THEIR BENCH.

He came to America for probably 2 reasons. One of which is guaranteed to be playing time, and the second could be money, but I don't know what's going on his head to say it's about the money.

I suppose he could waste him time foddering on some bottom feeder like West Ham or Wolverhampton or Blackpool, but that does that really mean he's still more than a shell of his former self? No.

Just because a coach is hated doesn't mean he's a dumbass. You still play your best players unless there's a dispute between player and coach. And if there was such a big dispute between Henry (who was named CAPTAIN) and Domenich, then I doubt Henry would have been captain.

Give it up, just because you guys love him doesn't mean he's not washed up relative to the level he used to play on as recently as 2008-2009.

ohiobucks1;423494 wrote:You really don't think he would start for Wolves, Blackpool, West Ham, etc?

No I'm saying he would (last line of my post), but it's not worth it to him imo, and honestly, would you rather get more attention in the US and get paid more or be starting on a bottom feeder EPL team?

I don't know about you, but I would choose the America option 10 outta 10 times.

Listen, I love Henry, he was one of my favorite players to play as in fifa years ago and one of the few players I would care about following before I rekindled my love for soccer again, but I'm just looking at this from a realistic perspective, that I can understand why people disagree with.

It all boils down to this, I think he washed up for Europe, and you guys don't. Don't see the need for personal attacks on this thread (the radio comment, Durkie).
