Cavs fans....hypothetical question

  • thedynasty1998
No he won't. He did too much for this franchise to be remembered for one game.

That is not how Cleveland fans work...lol. It is the old..what have you done for me lately syndrome.

    What did he do??

The only thing Cleveland wants is a ring, something he has not done yet.

Sure he will. It will be brought up constantly.

He will be hated by 90%+ of NE Ohio but for as much as you hear"if he doesn't re-sign, he'll never be able to come back here", I don't think that stuff really gets to him. This is the same guy who flaunted a Yankees hat at a Tribe game and stood on the Dallas Cowboys sidelines during a Browns home game. For as much as I hear the "he wants everyone to love him", from a fan base perspective....I don't think he REALLY cares if he's the villain.

Exactly and if I recall, he PROMISED a ring.

Which is how it should be UNTIL he brings us a championship.

    Exactly.

We're not greedy. We just want one. Hell, if he would have gotten the job done THIS year I would have gladly said "hasta la vista, baby" and wished him the best if he left. All I want is ONE.....for now.

At this point, for as sad as it may sound, IF he leaves, the Browns will have the best chance of the three sports teams of getting a championship first and they aren't even close.
  • wes_mantooth
Yeah, if he leaves, we are looking at having three teams with losing records.....fun times
  • thedynasty1998
If he did win a ring and left, he would probably be hated more.

I really don't understand that "We want a ring, and that's it" thinking. One team wins each year and if you look at the history of the NBA, it's the Celtics or Lakers half the time. To say Lebron is a disappointment because he didn't win a ring for the city of Cleveland is selfish and it makes me hope he does leave. Look at what he did accomplish. No one even knows where Cleveland is if it's not for Lebron. He helped the city economically and emotially and because he didn't win a ring he's a nobody.

    It's really sad.

It is sad, but it is a city that hasn't won a championship since the 60's. Is it fair...probably not, but I could give a shit less.
  • thedynasty1998
So you blame the guy who brought you closer than anyone else?
  • BR1986FB
I don't think so. Cleveland fans just want a championship. He wouldn't be nearly as villified if he left after he won a championship.

If he leaves, after the way he bowed out in the playoffs, people will hate him even more because he QUIT. It looks like "oh well, I'm out of here anyway so it doesn't matter if I tank it or not." That's EXACTLY how it will look.

thedynasty1998;400690 wrote:So you blame the guy who brought you closer than anyone else?

And PROMISED a title and then QUIT on his team?

And you're wrong. The 1997 Indians brought us closer to a championship than anyone else and the "goat" from that game 7 was the same guy who was lights out all season, Jose Mesa. Lebron didn't bring us closer than anyone else.

No, I don't blame him at all. I am just saying that it is championship or bust. No one remembers 2nd place.......

To be honest, I think Lebron would be foolish not to go where he can get a championship....that is what these guys play for.
  • thedynasty1998
So if Lebron is such a quiter as you say, why bring him back?

    Redemption

Lebron brings excitement to the Cavs fans for 72 games throughout the season. He's selling out the arena. People are buying his jersey. He is a fixture in the community. He's a good teammate. He is the face of an entire league. He stays out of trouble.

Yet, without a ring he's a disappointment? I just don't get it. I really don't. It just sounds really really pathetic.

Cleveland will just go back to being a joke of an NBA franchise if LeBron leaves. They had a flash of brillance in the late 80's but that is it. Fans have every right to be pissed off if LeBron leaves and the way he and this team went out doesn't help it hurts him!!

I don't blame him for going where he feels he can best win a championship (and right now, that sure as hell isn't Cleveland) but that doesn't mean I'll like him or cheer for him.

I know I said earlier that I wouldn't dislike him for leaving until someone reminded me how he tanked game 5. If he goes out on THAT note, yeah, he'll be disliked.
  • wes_mantooth
I completely get where you are coming from dynasty, but you have no idea what it is like being a Cleveland fan. I don't care who gets us a winner....I just want that PARADE downtown. I know what Lebron brings to the city...money, excitement...etc. At the end of the day....why do these guys compete????? TO WIN THE WHOLE FUCKING THING!
  • Fab1b
Also if LeBron leaves why should he be liked? He will now be an enemy of the Cavs, an opponent and should not be rooted for!!
  • wes_mantooth
And br, I am with you....I wouldn't cheer for him, but I wouldn't hate him like I know many...will. Players come....players go.....I stick with the team through thick and thin.

Why, because he's been dubbed the "GOAT", the greatest in the game, and he promised a championship. Don't talk shit if you can't deliver. Mo Williams should have taken that to heart last year.

Nobody gives a fuck if they are the #1 seed year in and year out if they don't win the ring. I don't know about you but I played to WIN, not to "have fun." Having fun was a byproduct of winning.

Some jackass called WKNR today and said "Lebron will stay because they are the #1 team in the East." Regular season doesn't mean shit. It's the END result.
