Understanding the Cavs cap situation:

BTW, Ben Wallace was defensive player of the year one year. Varejao is a poor mans Ben Wallace, who is the most overrated player of all time. That move by Ferry to bring in Wallace and pay his ridiculous salary was a great move as well, huh? Just further proof that Ferry should be canned.

Wallace's salary was ridiculous, but he was brought in to match salaries of other overpaid guys....namely Hughes, so that trade was not a failure at all.

AV is coveted, because he is a high energy guy, good rebounder and he pisses off whoever he is guarding....pretty simple.

I think he plays hard and is a solid rebounder.

I don't think he's as good of a defender as many seem to think.

And the 6th man award thing was more of a reward to the Cavs having the best record. Plus, he's a bench player. That's why I don't think he's highly coveted, because best case scenario he's a good 6th man that brings energy off the bench.
Yeah..that plus minus bs argument. LBJ was one...Howard was 2. I suppose they stink too. As for comparing Ben to Andy...a joke. Wallace was no offensive threat at all, whereby AV was a cut to the basket scoring machine all year.
  • thedynasty1998
I will agree for the most part with the last two posts.

I do think that some teams might want Varejao, but he's not highly coveted. And will never be the center piece of a trade by the Cavs.

And Wallace is far worse offensively, but he might have been a little better defensively.

What the fuck are you smoking? Wallace wasn't even the main part to the trade, he just made the salaries work.

Look at what Cleveland gave up at the time and what they received in return for the trades by Ferry.

Ferry has made great move after move, its not up to him to force the players to play up to their potential.

There is a reason why Ferry is among the best GM's in the game.

Although they haven't won a title, put the trades side by side and see if Ferry should be "canned".

AV had no business being a bench player. The addition of Shaq and the ignorance of Brown in cowtowing to upper management to play him over Andy ruined the fuggin team.

The 08/09 team was much better....with fewer "stars" on the roster.

Shaq destroyed Phoenix...and Shaq ruined the Cavs this season as well.

Chris Bosh has stated that if Lebron signs anywhere but Cleveland...he will sign the same place
  • wes_mantooth
    ^^^I have never heard that.

Also, Bosh is just like any other athlete.....he is going to go where ever he can make the most gross income.

    link?

He has never stated anything like that.

"If LeBron decides to go to either New York or Chicago, I think that's where you'll see Chris land," the source told Ford. "If LeBron stays in Cleveland, I think the process is more wide open.""

    The source lol.

How many times have I heard that and how many times has those "sources been right compared to wrong?

There are going to be so many source reports (Calipari, Bosh, LeBron etc) that over 90% of those will be false including this gem.
    Thanks
  • Footwedge
I think Bosh would love playing with the king. He would be nuts not too. But from a financial, practical point of view, I don't see it happening...unless Gilbert pulls it off.

    Ferry's moves:

    1. Signed Mike Brown, who all Cavs fans are highly critical of
    2. Signed Larry Hughes
    3. Overpaid for Gibson
    4. Resigned Varejao
    5. Brought in Shaq
    6. Brought in Jamison
    7. Signed Mo Williams
    8. Been bad in the draft

Lebron is the sole reason Ferry has looked good. If Lebron leaves, Ferry gets exposed and you will see how bad of shape the Cavs are in.
  • wes_mantooth
I really don't pin much of it on Ferry....Lebron is pulling the strings. Ferry is making every move to make Lebron happy.
  • Lovejoy1984
    5. Brought in Shaq- for Ben Wallace, and Sasha
    6. Brought in Jamison- 30th Pick in draft
    7. Signed Mo Williams- Traded Damon Jones.
    8. Been bad in the draft

Ferry knows how to work teams. No matter what happened Ferry has been able to trade bench warmers/scrubs for decent, All-Star level talent.

Hasn't proven to draft well, or very good in FA, but he's able to trade!

Bringing in Shaq and Jamison were bad moves. I would also disagree in that JJ Hicksom was an excellent draft choice...considering where he was drafted.
  • Fabio
If the Cavs were able to keep lebron and get CP3 I would masturbate in public.
  • thedynasty1998
The Shaq move proved to not work. He arguably made them worse.

Jamison has a terrible contract, so yes, it was a bad move. Plus, if Lebron leaves, you badly wish you could take back that trade. You don't have a first rounder and are stuck with Jamison for at least a year.

Hickson was a decent draft choice, but he would be considered a role player.
  • hoops23
Antawn Jamison was a great pick up if we get a coach who utilizes his skill set and doesn't try to make him a spot up shooter.

And LOL @ JJ being a "decent" draft pick. He's got a TON of potential. Sure he's a role player now, but he's defintiely got the skill set to turn into a legit option in his own right.

I think we also forget that Ferry drafted Shannon Brown, a guy who Mike Brow NEVER gave a real chance... Just like every other fucking rookie on our team.

Anybody who thinks Ferry should be canned is an absolute idiot and should STOP watching the games. Ferry has Fleeced team after team, which is why I LOL at people who say the Cavs can't make a move.

The second post and the first say very different things.

AV is THE best post defensive player in the league, even better than Dwight Howard. He's got excellent fundamentals on the defensive end and hustles his ass off at all times. He deserves every penny he gets and teams DO want him, no doubt about it. However, I don't think the Cavs trade him, he's a good piece with Lebron.
  • Fidmeister
Quick correction: Mike Brown was hired before Danny Ferry. Don't pin that on him.
  • thedynasty1998
Sleeper, AV isn't even the best defensive player on the Cavs roster, let alone the entire league. That may have been the dumbest comment I've seen to date on here.

    LOL

I said best post defender in the league, not best defender. And seriously, watch him play, he's always in the right place, he knows EXACTLY how to guard a post player, absolute textbook.
  • gibby08
If you really think he is a better post defender than D12,I feel sorry for you

All he does is flop and then bitch when calls don't go for him
