Oddly, Parker probably played the best out of anyone in the Boston series.Keebler wrote: I've said this for months (before the Jamison deal), the Cavs need a shooting guard. Yea and that would be easier said than done. Getting Brand and the #2 pick (presumably Turner who would be an instant upgrade to the SG position) would be a good move for the Cavs but presumably unlikelydevil1197 wrote: I think the Brand and #2 pick is true, but Cleveland would have to get a mid first rounder (possibly Memphis or Minnesota) and trade that to Philly as they would still want a 1st rounder imo. -
Nate
True but they still need that explosive #2 scoring option there. They can't depend on Jamison or Williams putting up good supporting numbers every night. Jamison is still questionable. It will be interesting next year if him and Lebron get a full season together. I just think they still need that SG that can score when teams are set on stopping Lebron.devil1197 wrote:

Parker is a solid rotation guy but should not be a starter and is getting up there in age.devil1197 wrote:

The Cavs have shown that they dont' really value the draft much (evidenced by last year) and I think that the trade talks to dramatically improve the team are a lot easier said than done.devil1197 wrote: Yes, the Cavs can go out and make a move to dramatically improve their roster. They have almost 30 million in expiring contracts they could use, picks, young talent, and cash. A sign and trade or just straight trade will be done to improve the roster.
The Cavs will have an opportunity to buy into the draft this year and I really do think they will since they don't have a 1st or 2nd right now.
Teams like Memphis (3 picks), Minnesota (3 picks), OKC (2 picks) could all be potential options. OKC sooner or later is going to need to add veteran talent to that young roster, taking on two more rookies won't do that.
Plus, do they pull the plug on a trade without knowing whether Lebron is around for another three years or not? If Lebron leaves, the mindset of the organization does a complete 180, from title contendors to rebuilding. -
devil1197The Cavs didn't have to value the draft last year because they had a pretty solid roster already going into the draft. They knew they wanted to target some guys in the FA market. Also, Green will be apart of the Cleveland roster just depends on how well he plays this summer if he'll see time or not. They were targeting him and it was pretty good that he fell to the 2nd round.
Now this season they need to draft a young PF/C type guy as they would probably be shipping out JJ in any trade that they make on a large scale. This is where I see them buying into the mid round.
Whether LeBron leaves or not, the Cleveland Cavaliers will do a big time trade. Gilbert has talked about it since this past winter, this is the Cavaliers opportunity to make a big splash this summer because they cannot do it via free agency. This is their opportunity to improve the roster for LeBron and Gilbert will do it. -
SQ_CraziesYou ignore so many things dynasty. Don't even bother asking me to explain.

I've yet to get a good explanation on why the Cavs wasted their pick last year. When you draft at the bottom of the first round, you are not paying a lot of money and maybe you get a promising young player who can contribute and then you have another asset teams covet. Worst case scenario is he sucks, you send him down to the NBDL or sit him on the end of the bench.devil1197 wrote: The Cavs didn't have to value the draft last year because they had a pretty solid roster already going into the draft. And I understand what you are saying in terms of a trade and improving the team, but I still don't see the assets that the Cavs have. Hickson is the only young promising player, and you are willing to trade him to draft someone just like him? -
devil1197Because they knew they wanted Green, he was a guy they targeted since the beginning of the draft. He fell late and they knew he would probably still be around in the 2nd. Cleveland wasn't going to have any player late in those rounds come in and contribute. If you say Blair, he would have hardly had any PT over our bigs. SAS needed him to play, Cleveland not so much.
Cleveland still has those young assets and their rights (Sasha/Kid Congo). We traded rights of a player last year.
Willing to trade JJ just to draft someone like him? Uhh, yeah that is the idea to pair JJ/West/expirings/picks/cash to get a player such as lets say Iggy. Now you guy into the mid 1st and replace JJ who was just traded. -
thedynasty1998
I actually like Green, but he's hardly a difference maker. I've stated my case about Blair and respectfully disagree. You draft Blair, don't trade for Shaq and you have basically the same team (I'm not saying Blair is better than Shaq, but they are similar players and Blair is able to give you more minutes; plus Blair is cheap).devil1197 wrote: Because they knew they wanted Green, he was a guy they targeted since the beginning of the draft. I understand that they could make that trade to get someone like Igoudola, but then what do you do to get into the first round? You have already traded all your assets. -
devil1197$$$ is all it takes to get into the 1st round, 3-4 million.
That's why its called buying into the 1st round instead of trading into the 1st round. -
thedynasty1998
Gotcha! Really didn't know it was that simple. So $4 million can get you where in the draft?devil1197 wrote: $$$ is all it takes to get into the 1st round, 3-4 million.

KR1245It depends on the draft. There are a few teams with multiple first round picks this year. I think the Cavs could easily buy into the first round this year.
-
devil1197
Obviously not Top 10, teams rarely trade those picks and they would want players in return plus a 1st rounder later in the round.thedynasty1998 wrote:

But it depends on the teams situations. It could be anywere from 13-15 but the $4 million mark would decrease as the picks get later and later. -
devil1197Sources: Cavs take interest in Sampson
By Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo! Sports
As the Cleveland Cavaliers sift potential coaching candidates, general manager Danny Ferry has made calls checking on Milwaukee Bucks assistant Kelvin Sampson, sources tell Yahoo! Sports.
For now, the Cavaliers’ interest appears to be strictly in the fact-finding phase, but some league personnel believe it’s just a matter of time until Sampson becomes a legitimate head coaching candidate in the NBA.
Sampson is a favorite of San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich and GM R.C. Buford, both close confidants of Ferry. Popovich coached on Team USA with Sampson in the 2002 World Championships and has stayed close with him. After Sampson’s firing for NCAA violations at Indiana in 2008, the Spurs staff brought him to San Antonio to spend the rest of the season with the team. After an abrupt and humiliating end to his college career, the embrace of the Spurs elders started to rebrand Sampson for the pro game.
Under Scott Skiles with the Bucks, Sampson’s worked closely with rookie Brandon Jennings(notes). Sampson was a two-time national coach of the year (1995 and 2002) at the University of Oklahoma. -
devil1197Sampson gets the thumbs down for me.
-
SQ_CraziesIf Kelvin Sampson gets the job, I will officially hate the Cleveland Cavaliers.
-
thedynasty1998Sampson is an interesting name. I always thought he was a good coach, although obviously a little shady. I think he's better than Jent, and he's a guy that would likely be willing to accept the job before the start of free agency (not sure if that's something the Cavs are interested in or not?).
-
hoops23lol, Sampson gets interest, that's about it.
No way do you fire Mike Brown and hire a guy like Kelvin Sampson.
Fuck that.
And what does he have to do with Jent? The Cavs will keep Jent NO MATTER WHAT. LBJ and Jent are VERY good friends and Jent has been his personal shooting coach for the past 2 seasons.
It's why he WASN'T fired along with Mike Brown. -

devil1197Jent would get interest via a Chicago Tribune article.
If any Cavs assistant gets the job it would be Malone.
Ferry is doing a good job by looking at all the options but Sampson won't interview imo. -
SQ_CraziesIt's because Jent works for LeBron James first and the Cleveland Cavaliers second.

devil1197Bosh has stated that he didn't give the Raptors a list of teams he wanted traded to. Also, Hedo wants out of Toronto.
26.9 million between Bosh and Hedo if Bosh signs his max contract with Toronto.
Varejao: 7.03 mil
JJ: 1.528 mil
Telfair: 2.7 mil (expiring)
Parker: 2.855 mill (expiring)
West: 4.6 mil (expiring non guaranteed 500K)
Takes it to 18 million.
You could either add in more talent like Gibson/Mo or use Wally for 4-5 million then add in cash plus picks. -
hoops23Is it just me, or has anybody else noticed what a little bitch Brian Windhorst has turned into the last couple of weeks?
He seems to be trying to push his own agenda and really seems butt hurt about the Mike Brown firing. -
devil1197Yeah, he is being weird.
