What are the Cavaliers missing?
-
I Wear PantsThey need two things.
Some more consistent players. Ray Allen would be excellent.
And some heart. -
Sagei dont watch sports reporters. besides, im boycotting all ESPN shows.
because, the other day, NFL Live was on, and I was like "I normally bitch that NFL Live is on every day in May, but finally something that cant involve LeBron."
They were asking their analysts "WHICH FREE AGENT WILL HAVE A LEBRON-ESQUE IMPACT ON HIS NEW TEAM"
It took every ounce of being in me to not throw my TV into the dumpster after that. -

You're an idiot. Shaq definitely ruined the team. And don't give me this crap about Shaq putting up numbers in the Boston series...he didn't.
Why don't you look up Shaq's stats then double them and post them here (projecting to a full game) and we'll see how much Shaq hurt the team. Here's a hint: Lebron turned it over in one game almost as much as Shaq did the entire series.
Even for half a game, his numbers were solid.
Seems you were so busy looking for excuses you forgot to watch the actual game. -
SageIt's not the numbers with Shaq. To get 20+, he has to play selfish, and he hurts the team that way. He's not efficient anymore and honestly, as a Lakers fan, it was pathetic to watch him this post-season.
He slows down their style of play (when Cavs are at their worst) and is probably the biggest defensive sieve I've ever seen in my life. Did he have a block the entire series?
They got Shaq for Howard, so he could play him straight up. He shouldn't have been on the court for more than 12 minutes a game. -

Again, look up the numbers and get back to me. I believe he shot over 50% from the field. 6 blocks and a number of altered shots I saw.Sage wrote: It's not the numbers with Shaq. Shaq was horrible all season when on the floor. His plus/minus numbers were a full six points less than the Cav average.gut wrote:

Look at Phoemix' record after they traded for Shaq.

SageA guy averages 11.5-5.5 in the play-offs, against two teams that really should have no answer for him?
And sorry, when you're shooting all of your shots from 5 feet in, 50% from the field is awful.
He apparently had 1.2 blocks a game, but I can't recall any of them. I do recall him getting dusted in P&R's and (more times than not) allowing players to get to the rack without stepping up. His help defense was atrocious.
Shaq sucks. The Cavs should have ran the Celtics in to the ground. Instead, they played half-court and allowed the Celts to eat them up. -

Typical Pittsbugh fan. Sticking his nose into something that he knows nothing about. Your posts on the Cavs would be like me telling you why the Penguins lost game 7.gut wrote:

Trueblue23Footwedge that's why you're a dbag.

sleeperI agree with FootWedge, Shaq shouldn't have been playing against the Celtics. He was brought in for Orlando, and he was just a liability on both the offensive and defensive end.

I Wear PantsShaq wasn't helpful for the most part. He couldn't defend for shit and missed a good many easy looks since he has absolutely no touch.
Footwedge. Please stop being such a dick about anything dealing with the Cavs. -

Moreover....it irritates me to listen to Shaq apologists around here. I've watched Cleveland sports teams for over a half of a century. And I watched this well oiled machine from last year be destroyed basically by one player.
If that puts me into your personal "dickopedia" file...I'm fine with it. I don't give a shit what you think about me. -
I Wear PantsBy the way, I agree with you about Shaq. Dude is a net loss. Although he was one of the only ones in the last few games who gave a fuck.
Two things: It's too easy to get you riled up.
And just because you've followed Cleveland sports for 50+ years doesn't make you any more qualified than any of us. -
HereticWhile I'm not going so far as to say Shaq "ruined" the team, he was a big part of the playoff problem. He was becoming pretty solid before he got hurt and after the lay-off, he pretty much stunk in the playoffs. His offensive numbers were greatly enhanced by his 21-point game in their Game 5 blowout loss. His main attribute was that he seemed to outwardly care more than about anyone else.
I'd really say in this case, though, the problem was more the coaching than Shaq. The gameplan seemed to be "get Shaq involved" too often. When the dude's hitting 50% of shots that should be very high-percentage, he shouldn't be anything resembling a focal point of your offense. I can see some validity to the "ruined the team" idea, though, due to the question of chemistry issues. Let's face it; while the "Delonte's boinging Mama King" rumor's cute and all, when things weren't going Cleveland's way, it's a LOT more believable that Shaq's ego is causing him to insist he be an impact player and sulk/complain behind the scenes if he's not getting the playing time and shot opportunities he wants.
While I have heard rumors Shaq was a major "I have this many rings...how many has Mike Brown won" complainer when he wasn't getting his way, I have no proof of that, so I won't say he ruined the team, but he was more of a problem than a solution against the Celtics. -
gutShaq ruined a team that won 61 games this year, 5 less than last year?
Trying to pin losing that series on Shaq is comical. Don't misdirect criticism of coaching at Shaq. He played his role and did a solid enough job. He's a ways down the list of players you should be pointing a finger at. -

My 50 years comment had nothing to do with who's qualified to voice their opinion. My 50 years comment has to do with 46 years of frustration in not winning a title.I Wear Pants wrote: By the way, I agree with you about Shaq. Dude is a net loss. People who haven't gone through the yearly pain of losing for so long....normally don't follow our teams with a fine toothed comb....the way the die hards do.
As for getting riled up....this is the internet...I don't get riled up much. I only get riled up in real life. -

Listen up Sleuth...Shaq missed about 30 games this year. Over that span the team was much more dominant than when he was on the court.gut wrote: Shaq ruined a team that won 61 games this year, 5 less than last year?

Let me remind you once again....Shaq had the worst plus/minus numbers of any Cleveland starter....by a wide margin. When he was on the floor, the team played a lot worse.
Stick to Pittsburgh sports. You don't know anything about the Cavaliers. -

Can't tell you how much I want a Cleveland team to win a title. It won't be the Browns so we have to hope either Lebron stays or the Indians pull out a fluke year like 2007 (think it was 07) but take it all the way. Otherwise it might be a long damned time. -

Really, because they played pretty badly when he wasn't on the floor against BOS, too.Footwedge wrote:

Again, they lost 5 more games than last year and had basically the same result in the postseason. They also were a better 3-point shooting team when Shaq was on the floor.
Make all the excuses you want, they far from begin and end with Shaq.
Don't blame Shaq for Mike Brown's incompetence and Leboob's disinterest.
