What are the Cavaliers missing?

Channing Frye > Shaq?thedynasty1998 wrote: There was such a huge market for Jamison and Shaq huh? No one else even wanted Shaq. He got paid $20 million this year. They could have paid a free agent with some promise instead.
Jamison obviously didn't make a difference, so at this point, you would take that trade back if you had the option. I'd rather have the 30th pick, and get someone with some potential, than have Jamison who is going to get $28 million over the next two years.
How about not bringing in Shaq and signing someone like Channing Frye and paying him $2 million this year.
It's just common sense.
LOL
Seriously, the Cavs are WAY over the cap, they can't just sign free agents, do you not understand what a salary cap is? We only got Parker and Moon because we are allowed a MLE, and BLE, and we can sign veterans for the minimum, but we weren't going to get any marquee player and we didn't. Jamison is pretty damn good, he just wasn't the right piece, but you are oh so smart because hindsight is 20/20. -
I drain 3'sComparing the numbers, Frye and Shaq aren't that far apart. I know, completely different styles and all and of course, no way Frye is the solution we need, but I would love to see a guy like Frye come to Cleveland. If they wanted a stretch big man, there he is. He's almost like a younger Z. Basically a spot up shooter, but with greater range. Also, he's cheap and only been in the league for a few years. I would definitely be in favor of bringing him to Cleveland.
-
thedynasty1998Frye visited Cleveland last year, and I'm not really sure how it played out.
But to say that Frye wouldn't have been a better fit than Shaq is just stupid. He's exactly what the Cavs needed, a big who can step out and shoot the ball. Plus, like I said, he made $2 million this year and Shaq made $20 million. And you would rather have Shaq after his impressive year?
The Cavs are over the salary cap because of the bad moves they made. They brought in Ben Wallace a couple years back who was WAY overpaid and people thought it was a good move. They pay Boobie $4 million to ride the bench. They trade for Jamison who is overpaid. They bring in Shaq who makes $20 million, and then you want to cite the salary cap? You wonder why they are over the salary cap, it's because Ferry doesn't know what he's doing.
Ferry is not getting enough blame here. -

GTFO, you said if the Cavs lost game 6 you were taking a month off. Now you run along.Footwedge wrote:

I know what the thread title says, dumbfuck. Yeah, a legit big guy is what the Cavaliers are missing, but jesus lets get a little realistic here. While were at it why don't we just say the Cavs need to find a way to bring in Dwight Howard. That probably has about as much a chance of happening as Milwaukee trading Bogut here. They've got a good young combo in Jennings and Bogut. I'm pretty sure they're going to try and start building their team, not destroy it.Footwedge wrote:
Reread the thread title dumbfuck. There are ways to get deals done. The Celtics swung trades to bring in KG and Allen. They found a way.I drain 3's wrote:
Why the hell would Milwaukee give up Bogut? He's the only big guy they have that's worth a damn. I don't see any way they're giving him up, not for anything that we could offer them. Bosh is a long shot as well.Footwedge wrote: Cavs digressed this year for one reason...Shaq. He ruined the team. The 08/09 team was much better. The Cavs will compete next year by not resigning Shaq nor Z.
Obviously, Lebron needs to be re-signed, or else the team will have to go through some major rebuilding.
They need to get rid of or trade Parker and bring in either Bosh or Bogut.
As for Bush...are you really that fuggin stupid? The man's a free agent.
And as far as Bosh goes, no shit he's a free agent. Try telling me something I don't already know. Are you trying to tell me that getting Bosh to come to Cleveland, isn't a long shot?
To many variables to call it anything but a long shot. What's Miami going to do yo try and lure him there, if Wade moves where does he go, is Lebron staying or leaving Cleveland, is Shaq retiring or not, does Bosh want to play alongside Shaq, what's that do with Jamison...
I'd think we'd have a better chance of getting Amare. At least the Cavs and Suns have shown somewhat mutual interest.
Closing bullets then I am done with you.
1. Only an idiot doesn't understand that Shaq is done in Cleveland. He ruined this team...just as he absolutley ruined Phoenix last year.
2. Bosh is a FA. Gilbert is rich. Connect the fuggin dots.
3. Aas for Bogut...teams with money get things done. Does the Pau Gasol trade ring a bell?
The thread asks what needs to be done. Question answered.
Run along. -
hoops23Channing Frye isn't coming to Cleveland. He was CLOSE to signing with the Cavs, but he opted to go HOME and play for Phoenix. I expect him to stay there as well.
-
jpake1Yeah I don't see Cleveland. He's looking to get paid after a DECENT year in an offense that's made people look better. Somebody will overpay and we'll be here next year saying "Frye who".
-
hoops23Cleveland needs:
1) LeBron
2) an established coach who LeBron will listen to
3) a knockdown 3 point shooter (like Ray Allen)
4) a lock down defender off the bench (or in the starting line up if he's good enough)
5) a legit big man or PG -
war_admiralCoaching; not just Brown either. Look at the Asst coaching staff they've surrounded LeBron with. Chris Jent is no Jim Cleamons. Mike Malone is no Brian Shaw. And Egan is Spurs baggage.
Brown is horrible at in game strategies. Many times even the announcers point out things that pass him. case in point. Cav's pulled with in 4 pts of the Celtics and he had no set play other then to give it to LeBron. Which LeBron turned it over. Should have called a TO and set a play up with Ilgauskas at the top of the key. They didn't even try to use this play that was a go to play all of his career.
I say fire Brown and hire Bill Laimbeer. Which is funny cause they drafted him, then traded him to the pistons. He has a mind set of D first and can install a blue collar work ethic to this team and cut out all the clowning during practices and before games. And they will listen to him; and will understand about putting a player during the playoffs on their butt.
It's all fun and games at practice and before games. They have no work ethic. By that I mean look at the top players in the history of the game . They improve there games through the yrs. LeBron needs to learn how to go to the high post and low post as times. E.G Jordan in later yrs of his career. At no time during the 6th game did LeBron make the officials make a tough call. If YOUR THE MAN, THEN ACT LIKE IT!
He needs coaches that can challenge him and make him better. That's where college would have come into play here and given him that discipline. He's still playing as he did in high school. What point of his game has improved. He's 6'8 250 and can't play in the high/low post. I'd also hire Karl Malone to coach the Forwards/Power Forwards. Malone was 6'9 256 and knew how to play all positions in the front court.
Ball movement- and moving without the ball sucks on this team. Their mid-court play is lackadaisical at times It's as if their mind gos blank. During the Boston series they held the ball way too long. Leaving the older Boston defenders to just stand in place. They don't seem to understand just how to use Hickson and Varejao with in the flow of the game. Notice that Mark Jackson made the statement about Varejao that"Varejao would have to ask me to take him out of the game" then a minute later right on cue Brown pulls him lol.
They show no offensive flow during games. They wait way to long to get into their offensive sets and if they get knocked off their initial sets they don't look toward options 2 or 3 it just evolves into... You shot, no you shot, well the shot clocks down to 6 sec let me shoot. They need a 3 point assassin as well, one that you can't leave alone at any time. Look at just how many times Boston cheated to LeBron's side or center half. (Influencing) so to speak." I DON'T THINK THIS WAS TALKED ABOUT MUCH by the talking heads". Boston did this perfect on LeBron.
Go watch the film ...watch the cuts by Bostons players they were precise. Catch and shot. No guessing no holding the ball. EXECUTE!! I really could go on and on this teams fundamentals just suck. That's coaching...not just letting your best player do what he wants. MAN UP COACH BROWN! -
gutShaq gave them quality minutes. In yet another effort from Cavs fans to say Lebron has nothing around him, they are acting like Shaq didn't give you good stuff against Boston. Shaq averaged about half the game and contributed solidly on points and rebounds while being a defensive presence.
Shaq ruined the team and was a scrub against Boston? Spare me. Trying a bit too hard to make excuses for Lebron. It's coaching more than anything. Lebron had enough to win a title, that team just doesn't mesh like championship teams and that's mostly coaching, but Lebron has a hand in that as well. -
war_admiralPlus SHAQ was the ONLY player putting players on their butts and getting into it with other players. Hard fouls by the Cav's only came per Shaq and Varejao in this series. They need to get into the NBA archives to watch the Lakers Vs Pistons where Magic Johnson split open Lil' Isiah Thomas' lip with his elbow. That old time basketball.
-
wes_mantooth
I agree with this, but this is a completely different era now. All these players are all buddies now. Back then, there was a general hatred and not so much "buddy, buddy" activity. Hell, now these guys go out to dinner with each other immediately after the game...smhwar_admiral wrote: Plus SHAQ was the ONLY player putting players on their butts and getting into it with other players. Shaq for Wallace and Pavlovic ruined this team. Laugh all you want...but with Pavs and Wally coming in off the bench, this team was 66 and 16...and then 10 and 4 in the playoffs.sleeper wrote:

Come again?
Losing 2 out of 3 nailbiters to the Magic kept the Cavs from winning a title last year. This year's team got blown off the court twice at home. Never, ever saw that last year.
That was the Cavs best team ever....and you can take that to the bank. -

You're an idiot. Shaq definitely ruined the team. And don't give me this crap about Shaq putting up numbers in the Boston series...he didn't.gut wrote: Shaq gave them quality minutes. The Cavs threw the ball into the post and it was like a turnover. Their offensive flow was stopped. He would miss..and off to the races Boston went.
Moreover, when Rondo penetrated, Shaq was wayyy too slow to react.
The fact is....Cleveland's record with Shaq on the floor was horrible all year. He ruined the chemistry from last year's blowout machine...the exact same way he ruined Phoenix's team last year. -

yeah...it's like Rondo was so askeeered to drive the lane.... what a fuggin joke.war_admiral wrote: Plus SHAQ was the ONLY player putting players on their butts and getting into it with other players. I drain 3'sLOL. What am I not comprehending? Thread asks what the Cavaliers are missing. In your first post, you talk about how Shaq ruined the team, and that they need to get rid of Parker somehow and bring in either Bosh or Bogut, thus implying you believe Milwaukee will actually give up Bogut. If you honestly believe that, well then, quite frankly, you're retarded.

The thread title is very clear. I voiced my opinion on what the Cavs need. They need an all star big man.
I'm pretty cool with Bosh..I would rather have Bogut.
I never said it would be easy prying loose Bogut. I said it would be easy signing Bosh.
And yes....just as I stated all year long, signing Shaq could ruin this team. Turns out, just like Phoenix last year, that's exactly what happened. -
givetallugotThe Cavs ARE a team "BUILT FOR THE REGULAR SEASON."
Here is why...
The Cavs have a TON of depth on their team. There are a lot of guys that Mike Brown can put in and play some productive minutes, especially at the PF or C positions. In the regular season teams play 4 games a week and sometimes play back to back games where they fly across the country. Other teams with less depth and are injury plagued are at a disadvantage during the regular season. If the Cavs are banged up, they can just plug in other guys because LeBron is going to carry the team regardless.
HOWEVER...
When you get to the post-season, it's all about starting lineups and particular matchups. The Cavs didn't match-up well against the Celtics. The Celtics don't have nearly as much depth as the Cavs, but they have a much better starting line-up and are HEALTHY!!!
Lebron is getting no help...
Shaq had his worst statistical year as far as FG%. Mo is a streaky player and can't play D. Jamison is an undersized PF and wasn't used right in the Playoffs. The team also couldn't hit any open 3's when LeBron drove to the paint and dished it out.
We should not be suprised the Cavs lost...
Boston won the championship 2 years ago. They took Orlando to 7 games last year WITHOUT Kevin Garnett. Their Big 4 is HEALTHY now. The Celtics are a much better team with more stars. They just cruised in the regular season because they had to take care of injuries to prepare for the POSTSEASON!!!
The CAVS are way too predictable...
You only have to shut down one guy on their team to beat them. As for the Celtics, you can't concentrate on one person. They have 4 legitimate scorers. The Cavs NEED scorers. -

Ohhhh, alright. My mistake, I figured we would be talking about scenarios and such that actually stand a chance of happening. Might as well say we need to trade for Dwight Howard. -
FootwedgeGilbert's money makes a lot of impossible things turn into realities.

I drain 3'sYeah, maybe when you try and trade for a guy on a terrible team thats trying to rebuild. No way the Bucks give up Bogut. Zero chance.

SageThey need a coach that will stand up to LBJ. He clearly did not respect Mike Brown. It can't be somebody that LeBron handpicks either. I think Callipari would be a disaster.
Their roster, as it stands next year, is pretty wretched, when you look at it. Delonte could be in jail. Mo Williams should probably be a scoring point guard off the bench, Anthony Parker is my dude, but he ain't a starter.
Jamison is going nowhere. Nobody wants his contract (especially with a lockout looming next year), and he sucks.
You could S&T for Bosh, but really, who does Cleveland have that Toronto would want? JJ? Varejao? And even if you give them away, where's your front court depth at?
--------------------------------------------------
They should make a run at Ray Allen, or even David Lee (with a back-loaded contract, perhaps) and explore the S&T market to exhaustion.
They need a lot of things. The Cavaliers, in reality, are nowhere near a title-contender yet. -
SageAlso, the Cavs have no killers on their team. None.
When they quit showboating, dancing, hot dogging after 3 pointers, (and maybe their leader could stop with the whole LOOK AT ME, chalk routine), and realize that nobody is throwing rose pedals at their feet, then maybe they'll realize.
In play-off basketball, the beta males get seen to rather quickly. And honestly, outside of LBJ, they don't have alpha males. -

Their roster is a mess...they have turned it over 3 times now and it is catching up with them. Not much flexibility to get another stud in here.
