Stanley Cup Playoffs, Eastern Semi-Finals: Pittsburgh Penguins vs Montreal Canadiens

Strapping Young LadRember, this is all coming from the same cry-baby who called Mike C's PP goal that he got a stick on twice when he batted it out of mid-air a "garbage goal"......
And they call me a hater. -

The Caps out shot them too. The number of shots doesn't reflect a good or bad defense. It is the quality shots and the opportunity for rebounds.rock_knutne wrote:Strapping Young Lad wrote: How the fuck is this "Caps/Pens styles/games are different" idea you keep pressing even remotley relevant to what he's saying??? When did he ever mention anything about the Caps /Pens playing the same game???
No shit the Caps/Pens aren't the same style. The point he is making is not that. It's that Montreal has played good defense agianst both (despite they are two different styles). You are one thick son of a cunt.....
Montreal has played good defense? LMAO!!!!!! What fucking series have you been watching? Pittsburgh has severely outshot them and have had second chances galore. Halak is in no man's land, half the time he doesn't know where the puck is and it's NOT because his defense is clearing them away, Pens can find the net. It's not even close to what happened in that Caps series, they shot the shit out of it and never crashed the net for second chances, Pittsburgh is clearly doing that. Everyone wants to make that comparison when it couldn't be farther from the truth, the Pittsburgh players know they're playing the right way they just can't cash in on those scrums aropund the net and especially the wide open chances Halak is giving up. It's just a matter of time.
Again, I see the Pens winning in 6, but the Habs are in their head, even if Sid doesn't say so. You can see it on the ice as they are overthinking everything (missed open shots).
Yes, they have traffic in the front, yes they are missing open shots, but the Habs defense is also deflecting, stopping, and annoying the Pens when they are close.
It is not the Pens skating rings around the Habs. It is the Habs playing to their strength, a bend but don't break defense.
The Pens are good, much better than the Habs, but the Habs are even in the series because they are in the Pens head (like it or not) and the Habs defense is pretty damn good.
Sidenote, I've been talking about this thread to a couple buddies of mine, one a huge, huge Ducks and the other a Sharks fans and hockey fans in general. They agree with me. That the Habs defense is good and is the main reason why the series is tied. -
Strapping Young LadPlus how do you explain the fact that Pittsburgh, Gods of all things hockey, have dominated TOP and shots yet have been held in check and are tied w/ the eighth seed????
I know, they just all of a sudden, just like that (after game 1 of course) have forgotten how to generate offense. They spend all game in Montreal's zone for 4 games and are tied 2-2, but the goaltending and d suck.
Rockne does a good Cindy impression. Always cry-babying and refusing to give the opponent any credit.
If this thread was the NHL, Rockne would be the Cindy Criesby of....minus the talent. In fairness, I would be someone like Sean Avery. A pest.
Hey Automatik, I gotta get outta here before the Mods give me another warning for ragging on Cindy and Pissburgh Nation. -
rock_knutneAgain, I don't know what series you guys have been watching but Pittsburgh has missed numerous chances at wide open nets, it's a matter of execution and not Montreal's defense!
Hey "strap on"............are the Sabres playing tonight? -
Swamp FoxA team doesn't "shoot themselves in the foot" over and over again without the other team contributing to the failure to take control of the game. Montreal is playing pretty well. I don't think that on paper the Habs stack up to the Penguins man for man, but we all know the old cliche about games not being won on paper. So far, this series may fall into that category. I think the Pens will ultimately move on but the Canadiens are hanging in there and battling for all they are worth.
-
NonMontreal's defense is solid but nothing special. It hurt losing Markov, who is probably their best overall defenseman. Gill is a good veteran presence but he's a little on the slow side. But when you're just sitting back and waiting for opportunities to counter attack, the 4-5 players in the defensive zone still present a challenge for the Pens. The Pens are getting shots because Montreal most of the time isn't playing offense, but a lot of the shots are being blocked or there just isn't a lot on them by the time they get to Halak.
This is sort of like the air hockey game when your opponent sticks his hand/paddle in the center of the goal and lets you fire away because he believes there isn't enough room for the puck to go in. You can just shoot multiple times but if you're a little tired or not paying attention, your opponent might catch you by surprise and shoot quickly. -
NonPens coach Dan Bylsma speaking about Saturday's pivotal Game 5:
This is true. Though the Pens are getting shots they're coming more from the arc, so to speak. They're going to need somebody to do some more dirty work in Game 5."We need to be focused on getting second-chance opportunities. It feels like one of the only ways we're going to get those opportunities is being in and around the net picking up second chances ... not just trying to shoot and go for home runs.
"We need to get inside to create havoc. We have to get there with more bodies and more pucks. We just have to keep fighting to get those chances." -

So Montreal is directly responsible for Crosby, Letang, Goligoski and Malkin missing a wide open net in game four? Please. -
rock_knutne
They have been creating havoc and just can't convert. I think Bylsma is talking about a constant prescence in front of the net, that hasn't happened but they have created screens and have crashed the net when possible. Montreal is a small team and from what I've seen thus far they have not been able to clear players away from the net.Non wrote: Pens coach Dan Bylsma speaking about Saturday's pivotal Game 5:

rock_knutneFYI, Billy Guerin will be in the lineup tonight, no word on Mike Rupp.
-
NonYeah, they're not a big team, physical team or really even a good hitting team.
If you remember the great New Jersey teams with the trap, they had Stevens, Daneyko and guys like that who were good clean hitters.
I don't feel like the Pens are in a series like that.
I thought Ottawa overall did a better job of taking away space and knocking guys off the puck than Montreal. The Habs are getting in the way of a lot of shots. Some of it is their defenders but some of it is just because they're not attacking on offense and keeping a lot of players in front of the net. -
NonGuerin undoubtedly will be one of the players they'll look to in front of the net tonight.
Hopefully the time off got him refreshed.
He started skating better and shooting the puck better towards the end of the Ottawa series and maybe got overconfident and out of his game because of that. -
Strapping Young Lad
Big deal. That shit happens all the time. If Montreal doesn't hit crossbar+post in the 1st during game 3 that game goes to OT. Flower was beat many times in that 1st per. but Montreal got no goals out of it. That's hockey.......rock_knutne wrote:Swamp Fox wrote: A team doesn't "shoot themselves in the foot" over and over again without the other team contributing to the failure to take control of the game.

Montreal might not be responsible for your doucheboys missing wide open nets, but they are responsible for shutting limp-wrist and shit- packer down. Get over it already...... -

Agreed. It's one thing to completely derail this topic by getting into pointless arguments about who knows more about what's happening on the ice (annoying, but at least somewhat on-topic), but another thing for two idiot posters to derail a topic to toss out lame grade school insults at each other.Automatik wrote: Why don't you ladies take it to PM and let the adults talk about hockey?
Pedo posts unapproved. More frontier justice upcoming if need be.
