Crimson streakI just read this morning they predict it will be a 5 before it makes land fall. The early models were predicting a land fall at the Chesapeake bay which is 40 miles from me. But thank his now it's going towards Florida

Even if a level 4 or makes it up to 5, still gonna be a hell of a storm when it hits Florida.

iclfan2Just announced that it is up to a 5. The Leeward Islands, Cuba, and South Florida could get pounded. Once it gets to Florida it is probably that it will take a right turn and go up Florida and possibly impact other east coast towns. I'll be monitoring closely, still 5 days out for US

Terry_TateI'm on vacation in Captiva, FL (Southwest Florida by Ft. Myers) right now and we're scheduled to fly out at 11am Saturday. Figure we have a day or two to see if it will reach here by then, but it looks really close. Trying to figure out if we need to bail out of here on Friday to make sure we're good. There's a bridge going from here to the mainland and our biggest worry is it closing on us and us being stuck here, but I figure they'll at least give a warning for that.

j_crazywas just in Key West. As i was leaving Sunday people were starting to get their shit ready to bail. Hopefully there is some good luck to get it away from there, but the water temp was about 10-15 degrees warmer than normal so that is not a good omen for them.

SpockAfter we spend billions in Cuba after this.....we should just take over the country

You need to bail out before Friday. Don't be one of the goofs.Terry_Tate;1870018 wrote:I'm on vacation in Captiva, FL (Southwest Florida by Ft. Yeah, we heard that the Keys have an evacuation issued. We're talking about leaving Thursday now so traffic won't mess us up.salto;1870044 wrote:You need to bail out before Friday. Don't be one of the goofs.

CenterBHSFanI have family down in the Sarasota/Venice area. They're planning on staying even though they have more than enough means to get out.
They may not catch the full brunt of it, but damn... -

I live about 80 miles north of Captiva, get the hell out while you still can efficiently do so. Local retailers here are completely out water and the lines at the gas stations are already forming. People are starting to panic, the airlines will overwhelmed.Terry_Tate;1870050 wrote:Yeah, we heard that the Keys have an evacuation issued. SpockDon't understand why able bodied people would stay. Just drive North a few hours and hang out.
-
Laley23Terry, not sure if you're aware or not...but that bridge from Sanibel to Ft. Meyers can backup for half a day at times. I'd play it safe.

I just rented a car for us to leave Thursday afternoon. Some places on the island have closed but most are still open. We're getting everything ready in the morning so if we need to leave on a moment's notice we'll be ready. First time experiencing the build up to a hurricane, it's just crazy knowing this whole place could be wrecked in 4-5 days.Bio-Hazzzzard;1870096 wrote:I live about 80 miles north of Captiva, get the hell out while you still can efficiently do so. Been through this before, a lot harder for residents to leave than tourists. With hurricane prep and things that need done will take some time before we leave. Have a safe tripTerry_Tate;1870105 wrote:I just rented a car for us to leave Thursday afternoon. Some places on the island have closed but most are still open. Bio-HazzzzardGotta work all week, hurricane proof my house, and then worry how to get out. Might have to take the back roads out.

SpockThe eye wall and satellite view of this thing is freaking scary. It's basically a 23 mile wide tornado.

Think I just heard the news say something like the entire storm is larger than the state of Ohio.Spock;1870132 wrote:The eye wall and satellite view of this thing is freaking scary. It's basically a 23 mile wide tornado. -
Bio-HazzzzardWinds at 185 right now

friendfromlowryWith gusts of 220mph. Incredible.

Terry_TateI think I've got everybody else on board with leaving Thursday morning now. There's 8 of us so it's not just my decision. Definitely trying to get everybody on board with getting the F out of here, lol. It looks like we could still be alright to fly out Saturday but I don't want to risk it. Just not worth it to risk being stuck here.
