  You're living on the edge man. I've never been apart of a hurricane evacuation but you'd think the longer you wait, the more people you're competing with in a shorter amount of time before it hits.

  I was talking with someone who lives somewhere central Florida and is riding it out. Lots of people who live inland Florida think they are safe.......unreal.

  I know someone in the Dominican who was posting on Facebook all weekend about how they were going to be flying out Monday, and they're now waiting it out in an island house.

  I just saw some models are starting to show it going eastward just brushing Florida and hammering the Carolinas. It's crazy how unpredictable this storm is

  Hopefully it keeps going east... Supposed to be flying to Pitt on Friday and then coming back to Myrtle on Sunday, then would have to drive the 2 hours South to Charleston, and then hope it isn't coming or turn around and evacuate. Or hope the flight even gets to Myrtle on Sunday. Thinking of just cancelling the trip. Would be out $200, but better than being stressed the whole weekend, plus out pets, etc. We are 8 miles away from the ocean and have a 4 foot crawl space, but the wind scares me, not the flooding.

  Do you live in myrtle? I know last year it was pretty rough. The marsh walk was in pieces.

  Charleston, but flying (until I cancel it) out and into Myrtle. We didn't get hit too hard with Matthew last year, at least in the suburb I am in.

  I wouldn't let the "group" take my life in their hands. I'd rent a car myself if those dumbasses wanted to wait.
  
  Hell, I'd be scared of traffic waiting to Thursday. I'd be out Wednesday night, or possibly VERY early Thursday morning (like 3-4am).

  My best friend is in Orlando. As of now, no warning for them.They are saying it's going to blast right into Miami downgrade to a 3 then head up the east coast.

  Florida would be a disaster to leave. We got evacuated from CHS last year, and they turned the both lanes of the highway east. The first day was a disaster, but I waited until the day before it was going to hit and had no traffic issues. Always a gamble though, luckily (or unlucky!) my MOL lives in CLT so we have a place to go if need be. Some recent models showing it hitting right at the SC/ GA border, still way no many possibilities to freak out. But I'll buy some water and start securing things on the outside of the house.

  I couldn't find a good detailed elevation map of Florida, but it's higher than I thought not very far inland to be a good bit above a 6-10 foot storm surge. But 20-30 miles inland the bigger problem is probably losing your roof and being exposed to flying debris.

  I'm about 35 miles east of the gulf coast 112' above sea level. No worries of storm surge out here but the sustained winds of that caliber and the constant heavy rain is what we have to worry about inland. If the storms track stays to the east of me I'm good, if it moves to the west I'm screwed.
