OC 2.0 progress thread

I'll use this to post screenshots as I make progress, or give updates as far as expected launch date. I will open up a "development" version of the site for people to use before the new site goes live so I can get an idea on performance with actual usage. I also want to verify that no one has issues logging in to the new system with their old username and password.

My current goal is to have something ready for testing by the middle of September and the OC 2.0 launch in early to mid October. The main goal with the rebuild is to simplify everything. The current site is really showing its age, it's too cluttered with stuff that no one even uses, so I am stripping all of that crap out. This will also allow me to add new functionality when necessary as I will have a much better working knowledge of how the system is built (since I built it myself).

It's mostly responsive as of now, I just have to tweak some positioning of the user information on individual posts. In the screenshot below, the final version will be vertical (userinfo on top, post on bottom) instead of horizontal.

    molestias? CC will feel welcome.

    I'm ok with that.

If I'm not at home, I don't access this website.

Will OC 2.0 be in English?

Nah. Trying to weed out the dummies.

JFC you installed captcha checks? That is the most evil annoying thing ever to grace the internet. I roll incognito and obliterate everything when I close my browser. Going to have to figure out how to manually keep the right cookies now (it's pretty tempermental).

Will OC 2.0 be more able to keep out bots?

As far as I can see, that's a rare problem dealing mainly with football and special events. And yet we still have the spam. recaptcha is fucking worthless - it does nothing but annoy. Clearly it's not effective.

There's like 5 spam threads already....How exactly does recaptcha reduce spam?!?!

Answer: It doesn't!!!!!! Ditch recapatcha and see how things go. I'd give the middle finger to HHonors for that alone, if there was nowhere else to stay

No, I didn't install anything new on this site. What are you talking about?

And spam will go down significantly on the new site as bots tend to target known forum software. As I am coding the new site from scratch, they won't know what urls to hit to register and post.

And, just to give an update on progress. I've been slacking pretty hard on this for a few weeks as I was getting ready for my canoe trip, then recovering from the trip. And my actual job has been a little stressful lately, so I haven't really wanted to come home and write more code at the end of the day. I'll be starting back up on it this week, and my plan is to have a testing version up by the end of the month to work out any bugs before a full launch, hopefully by mid to late October.

I get recaptcha checks to make sure I'm not a bot before signing in (you know, those checks that make you select which of 9 pics have street signs). Sometimes they make you do it twice, and sometimes they just aren't coded that great. A few hotel sites and others I use for travel make me do this and it's beyond annoying.

I tried to make an exception for OC cookies, so we will see if it holds up. But when I connect to different wifi or servers, it always seems to trigger the checks again (not on OC, yet, on those other sites)
