Just got back from our honeymoon in the Asheville area. We had a cabin in the woods for three nights and then stayed in the city for a couple days. It's a fun place, but also pretty hipstery/douchey.

Booked our cruise to Aruba, Bonaire and Grand Turk for February. Pumped.

O-Trap: I was at CLE a month ago, ready for the pre-check, and realized I had my pocket knife. I was able to get one of those bags from a drop box and send it home. It cost me 15.95 but my knife is worth more to me than that. It took about 2 full weeks to receive my knife in the US mail.

I have used the TSA pre-check about 5 times now and am very grateful we purchased that.

LOL! Most of my experience with the TSA people has been good, but once in a while I run into some real jerks.

Be glad you are back because I am in Savannah right now, bracing for Matthew and awaiting the birth of a grandchild. Asheville is probably inland far enough, but you still probably would have had rain and clouds.

Savannah is gonna get hit pretty good on this current track, right? We haven't left yet from Charleston but all of our neighbors have. Still trying to decide. Don't really want to sit here without power for 2+ days. But also don't want to come home to a messed up house or people looting or whatever.

    What was douchey about it?

Just the general disposition of some of the people we met/were around. Nothing major. People were polite and nice overall, but I would say that our friend group is very non-hipster, so it's just not our thing. We went to several good breweries and had a fun time, but the crowd was meh.

Asheville does have a ton of homeless people and a ton of hippies (mostly one in the same). It's a fact. A good amount of microbreweries and good food though.

We had fun both places. I can't think of a time I have not had fun on a trip...that's not really my style.

As for Siena, awesome city. Fully engulfed by the wall. I suggest trying to hit up a pub within the walls while Siena plays a soccer game. We were there while they clinched promotion to Serie A, and it was crazy!
Did your cousin ever get back to you?

Also, has anyone ever been to Mexico City?
  • sportchampps
Only flew they Mexican city. They "lost" my scuba gear. I'm pretty sure they just snagged it and it was resold.

We we will bet going back to the Dominican Republic again. Family loved La Romana so much they wanted to go back. I liked it until I got home and had food poisoning so bad I had to go to the hospital and get three IV bags after only being sick for about 2 hours.

    Oh fuck...yes! Totally forgot lol.

[INDENT]-Boboli gardens, if weather is nice
    -Santa Croce: tomb of Michelangelo
-If you have time go to Fiesole, bus ride away wonderful views of Florence
-Piazzale Michelangelo: VERY touristy (you can get to it by foot if you have a map, or by bus), but the views from the top are famous, the enormous church exploding from the city

    Food:
    Out at night
    ***La Giostra*** fantastic, little pricey
    Acqua Al 2
    Il Latini
    Trattoria Za Za

    Sandwich places
Oil Shoppe (this was what I was saying earlier. It's delicious, walk to back of the store and the sandwichs are made there)
    L'antico noe

    Wine Tours:
    Castello Di Verrazzano
    - a little bit of a drive (45-60min) from Florence, smaller vineyard, wonderful views and a pleasant wine tasting, food accompaniment)

I was there for 3 days in 2003, but it was with our HS Spanish Club and with one of those educational tour companies, so everything I saw was through a filter, essentially. We were able to go out on our own some, not a ton

Just booked a flight to Denver for the 3rd week of Feb. $260 nonstop via Delta. Hell of a price. We're renting a huge SUV, driving to Buena Vista. Snowboarding 1 day at Monarch near BV. Then 3 at Wolf Creek, staying in Pagosa Springs.

I think I'm going to make the surf trip happen. I've heard great things about camps in Costa Rica. Rincon, Puerto Rico is also an option. I need to research more regarding the weather there during spring.

Flying out to Italy tomorrow. I wish I booked the flight for today. Also Laley, thanks for the recommendations. I thought I thanked you, but apparently I didn't. Fail on me.

Yup, I am ok with missing a couple games for a winless team though, while I am out of country.

In Ireland currently and no nfl bars. Few of them have national media games but that's it.

Sucks but just one weekend I'll miss. Not to mention the games start at 6pm here.

That is so cool that the Browns have a backers club in Italy.

Vicenza is the army base. My guess it's a group of Cleveland backer soldiers on base.
