  First snowstorm of the season. Main reason I bring this up is it sounds like DC is about to get its shit rocked and I'm interested in the couple DC guys (like_that and Sleeper?) providing updates (assuming they live). As for Ohio, sounds like it'll be split who gets some vs who gets any. I'm right on that area where we'll likely get 3-5 inches, but go north a few miles and they'll get a dusting.

  Living in DC, they tend to overreact and hype any chance of a snow storm. The hype for this snow storm is trending toward actually happening. If we get 20+ inches like they say we will, then this area will be shut down 3+ days EZ. It snowed an inch last night, and traffic is already chaotic. I will provide updates, as I am sure I will be stuck at home for the next few days starting Friday night.

  The Day After Tomorrow is a good movie to watch in such storms.

  I can't remember the last time I was snowed in or had an adult snow day. As long as I had plenty of booze and delicious food, I'd love it.

  This is a friend of mine's first winter in D.C, and he said the overreaction is already annoying as fuck. Said everyone on campus is acting like they've never seen snow before.

  This. DC tends to overreact to the slightest snowfall and because of that the city tends to shutdown when any snow hits the ground. The reality is, the federal government has a bunch of useless workers who look for any reason possible to collect the taxpayers money to sit at home and do nothing rather than come to work and do nothing.

  All fairfax schools are closed today LOL. Imagine what it's going to be like if we actually get the amount of snow people are predicting.

  Last night was a complete and total disaster in the DC area. All the local Governments were caught flatfooted and were looking ahead. No pre treating the roads or trucks out.
  I had an event last night near Arudel Mills, north of DC, that ended around 9pm. The roads were a complete mess. Buses and cars were spinning out, the roads were no plowed or salted. There was no traction and cars were spinning out left and right. I took some side roads back instead of the 95 and beltway. It took me 1.5 hours in what should have taken 30 minutes. I got lucky in that some people were on I-66 for hours.
  
  I took off tomorrow as I had a previous engagement that is now canceled. I am looking forward to it actually. I was in DC for the 2010 and 2011 storms and loved those. They are predicting the same sort of levels, anywhere between 1-2.5 feet over the weekend.

  Hopefully, not that wet and heavy stuff that takes down lines. Power being off is scary in some situations...a lot of idiots but also those that have no form of heat.
  
  I will say though that those crews that work to get everything back on have done a commendable job over the last several years.

  I think people who haven't lived in areas that only occasionally get big snows really underestimate this, and just assume the locals are total whimps who cannot drive in the snow. I am from Ohio, and have lived in Minneapolis so I am no stranger to driving in show. Easily the most scared I have been driving on the roads was when North Carolina got snow. They were like ice sheets and very, very hard to drive on.

  I'm about 45 min to an hour north of baltimore in PA. We're supposed to get pretty hard 1-2 feet of snow. The stores were ridiculous even yesterday

  Enjoy the weekend! It is hard to beat getting snowed in and sitting by the fireplace sipping port and brandy watching a game, playing backgammon and listening to tunes. Maybe shovel every two hours etc... and fill the bird feeders.
