They did it here last year and it was totally unnecessary. We got way less than expected those who relied on public transportation were fucked.

I got a snow day, so I didn't mind, but it would have been nice to be able to get around.

Calling for 24-36" from DC to Baltimore and up in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Definitely would be an all time storm if that verifies. I do think thunderstorms down south may cut down a bit on totals but we will see

Not surprised- they were totally unprepared in 2010 (i think?) when "Snowmageddon" happened. I didn't have work for 10 days, it was amazing, until you go fuck stir crazy and run out of beer.

Since when do they close school/transit/airports in anticipation of snow? Many times these huge snow predictions fizzle and instead of 12" you end up with 2"? Can't we just wait and see what happens?

Since attorneys became sue happy in the 1980's, if a school bus goes off the road due to weather, $$$$$.

My father reminded me last night of a trip we made to the hills of WV (Webster County) around 1967 or 1968. We had stayed overnight in Charleston, it started snowing as soon as we left, and when we made it to Webster Springs, the mountain road to my grandparents' house had three feet of heavy, thick snow - our car made it about 100 feet before it stopped being able to push thru, the snow was above the bumper. We had to walk uphill the rest of the way about a half-mile (but only one-way). That was the only time as a kid that I hated snow.

I knew yesterday that southern/southeastern Ohio was forecast for a solid 6 to 8 inches today. I checked the weather radar at 5 AM this morning, it looked like the snow hadn't crossed north over Ohio River yet, but many of the school districts in the Portsmouth and Athens area had already issued their closure announcements for today. They must be pretty sure about this storm.

I think it's suppose to keep pushing north throughout the day. Sounds like my neck of the woods will be safe except for an inch or so. Always the bridesmaid, never the bride.

The european model showed DC could potentially get 40 inches. I am not buying that hype, but it seems for certain anything below 18 inches would be considered a "bust" at this point. Snow should start coming down around 12 or 1 today.

That's pretty much the same thing I told one of my dumbass housemates when she said she wanted to have a party.

Supposed to start snowing around 4pm for me in Huntsville. Only supposed to get 1-2 inches which is enough to cause a panic. Sucks its happening on a Friday though.

Lawl and of course right on cue... my office just announced they are closing at 12pm. God I love it when this happens.

Which is absurd in my opinion. There's no reason the underground stations can't continue running no matter what.

...I wonder where the Weather Channel has Jim Cantor stationed at for this storm? I remember one year when he was in Mass. & there was "thunder snow" , he basically shit himself on the street.

I have been in Charlotte (Lake Norman) for 4yrs and they over react most of the time. This time we seem to be getting more ice than snow and it causing some problems on the side roads.

It did cause me problems last night. I was in Dallas for work and was flying home last night. They cancelled all the flights to Charlotte for last night and today. So, I had to fly to Savannah, rent a car, and drive 4 hrs to get home. I got home at 4:30am and beat most of the bad weather.

Were you in DC a few summers ago for the derecho? They closed the metro then as well for flooding. The metro here sucks.

Storm here projected to start 10:00am-12:00....getting kids home from regular dismissal at 3:00 is not recommended and the 1 or 2 hour early dismissal to get kids home before greater snow amounts is a nightmare for virtually everyone and an inconvenience for many working parents.
