Biggest "Name/Talent" Athlete you face fin high school or college
-
Ironman92I don mean you were on the bench when your team faced a future big leaguer, but someone you actually competed against.
Being from southeastern Ohio mine is probably the worst and no real big names at all.
In same foursome against Lancaster and Joe Ogilvie in golf in high school. He shot 35 to my 39 and 73 to my 79.....Joe played on the PGA tour for about 15 years. Won a small tournament and held the lead on a Saturday at the British Open.
Baseball faced Chris Ellis (played 3rd base at Ohio State) and Mike Estep (played SS at Ohio State)....I picked him off first. Faced Scott Striklin (played at Kent St then coached them for a long time then head coach at Georgia and now AD I believe at Ole Miss)...could not get him out and only catcher ever to throw me out stealing. Also a few other guys that played A-AAA ball.
Basketball and football against some small college guys.
Mine is weak....let's hear yours -
cat_loverI hard the misfortune of trying to guard Granville Waiters (played at Ohio State) when he played at Columbus East. Our two centers got in foul trouble. Waiters was 6' 11" and I was 6' 2". It was not a pleasant experience.
-
Lovejoy1984Mine is weak as well. As a matter of fact, I don't think I played against anyone that did anything of importance in Pro's or College for that matter.

Crimson streakPlayed against Micah Hyde and maty mauk in 7 on 7's for football. Eric page in football, ran track against Dane sazenbacher. Used to play pick up games with the dieblers when I was a kid. William Buford in basketball. Played on a traveling baseball team as a kid with Andrew chafin (d backs pitcher) and Alex Gillett( was on GB practice squad for a while) played college football with Pierre garçon and Cecil shorts. Receiver coach was toledo's new head coach Jason candle.

sherm03When I was in grade school, we played against Maurice Clarett. He destroyed us. I don't think I came close to tackling him once.
In high school, I golfed against Jason Kokrak. I was the 5 man on our team, so normally I wouldn't have had to play WITH him. But in our match against JFK, there was a scout that coming to watch him and he was running late. So they moved Kokrak back and he was in my group. Dude was unreal. He's is on the tour now, and has had a few top 15 finishes in his career. -
Laley23William Buford is probably the only one who ended up doing much. A few kids highly regarded but flamed out in college. Buford at least became a force in college basketball.
-
Midstate01Played basketball against Scott McMullen and played soccer against Conner Senn (rip)
Got to run track alongside Osu and Olympic runner Rob Meyers. -
FatHobbitI was a pretty average miler in high school but I could usually beat anyone at a road race or people who just ran for exercise. One day I had about a half mile to go in my run on campus and someone started to catch me. There was no way I was going to let that happen so I started running as hard as I could to finish, but he ran by like it was nothing and just kept going. It was Mark Croghan who had run an 8:10 in the 3000 meter steeple chase that year.

Laley23Forgot Olympic Silver Medalist, Erik Kynard.
-
Commander of AwesomeNot me, but I watched my best friend in high school race against Ginn and Gonzales. Ginn was just incredible, he wasn't even trying and won by 3 hurdles.
-
GoChiefsPlayed a pick up game with women's basketball legend Katie Smith back in the day.
-
Con_Almaright off of the top of my head....it's probably Joe Staysniak.
-
like_thatMike Pucillo, D1 NCAA champion.
-
Old RiderPlayed against Mateen Cleaves in a holiday tournament in Sandusky in high school. Flint Northern beat us by 8...Robaire Smith and Antonio Smith were also on that team. They won the Michigan big school state title that year. Antonio Smith and Cleaves were then teammates at MSU of course. Robaire played in the NFL

BR1986FBOhio State & Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Steve Tovar. Actually dominated him from my offensive tackle position. As a caveat, he was a sophomore and I was a senior. By the time he was a senior I doubt the result would've been the same.

Belly35I tried out for a semi pro football team after high school Norfolk Neptunes that did workout as well as I had planned but I did play with some great guys some cut pros and college players but my stay was not that long.

What was nice about growing up in Canton in the late 60 and early 70’s was in the summer, players from every school and college in the area would come to the playground for pick games … never know who would show up.. win keep playing lose sit OUT and wait to play again or get pick for another team… -

Buford was an animal. He caught a pass in the lane and just took off and dunked over my teammate. It was nasty hahaLaley23;1769333 wrote:William Buford is probably the only one who ended up doing much. A few kids highly regarded but flamed out in college. hasbeenCecil Shorts III outran me as he was returning a punt for a TD in college. By a lot.
Played college baseball against Tim Saunders, Austin Blaski, and Kyle Lindquist. They all were/are playing in minors.
Played against Eric Arnett in high school. Pitched for Indiana and then went to minors. "Arnett never got out of Class A ball and will go down as one of the Brewers' biggest draft busts. Taken with the 26th pick in 2009 -- one pick after the Angels drafted Mike Trout – Arnett never approached the form he displayed as a junior at the Indiana University." Went 1-3 against him the day the Mariners were scouting him. So that's cool. I wonder why they didn't draft me, though?
There's more baseball guys for sure that I've played against.
Played with 5 NFL guys. 2 have stuck.
Wrestled Dustin Kilgore.
