I went to Maplewood. Ran against him in track. I suppose that was misleading.lhslep134;1769590 wrote:I went to Liberty. Where did you go that you went up against Fitz? -

I actually figured it was track since you mentioned Desmar and Fitz, whose notoriety did not come from the same sport as each other.GOONx19;1769627 wrote:I went to Maplewood. Ran against him in track. I suppose that was misleading.
Nice to find out another poster is from the Y-Town area. I didn't know that about you before. -
Dr Winston O'BoogieWe played Dublin High School my sophomore year in football and they featured Vince Workman at tailback. Their team wasn't good, but he was a man among boys. The goal in attempting to tackle him was to try and not get hurt.
A younger brother's friend ran the ball against Westerville South and Andy Katzenmoyer. He said during one offensive huddle, a pass play was called. The receiver that was supposed to go over the middle said, "F- no, I ain't running anywhere near that guy." -

Really good pitcher. It's a shame how his career ended and then to have the arm amputated. I remember when his arm snapped in that game. Heard the cracking of the bone could be heard throughout the stadium.4cards;1769617 wrote:...got to play with and against Dave Dravecky who played at Boardman HS & then went on to pitch in an All Star Game as well as the World Series for the San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Giants. -

adogNot myself, but a former employer of mine. This gentleman also was a basketball official at the time I worked for him so he and I talked sports quite a bit. He mentioned to me one day that in high school, in West Virginia, he came in 2nd both his jr & sr years for league mvp against the dude he had to guard on the court. the MVP? Jerry West. I kind of scoffed at that, so next day, my former boss brought in a newspaper article and picture showing him going up against Jerry West....impressed...

Something similar happened to me with my great uncle. I knew he played in the National Industrial Basketball League for Caterpillar in the 50s, but didn't really understand that it was a legit league back then. A couple of years ago he showed me a picture of him going up for a shot against the 1952 olympic team, the guy trying to block his shot was Bill Russell.adog;1770444 wrote:Not myself, but a former employer of mine. I will never forget the start he got in the state meet in the 110HH.....its unreal how fast he was to the first hurdleHeretic;1769431 wrote:I watched Ginn in state running the hurdles. I tried to get a pic of him and he was so quick I couldn't even time it up. He was unreal -- it just looked like stride, stride, stride, where he'd clear hurdles effortlessly and it didn't even look like he was jumping.
As for HS:
I had to guard Bobby Hoying on the basketball court. -
Old RiderPlayed against Earl Boykins when he was at Cleveland Central Catholic. Beat them in the regional semi's at the Canton Fieldhouse.

...It was terrible. Dave and I were next door neighbors growing up and to watch it happen in the video still makes me stick to my stomach. Dave and his wife Jan are great people, have a strong belief in God & that no matter what happens in life, their faith will get them through it.Ironman92;1770794 wrote:It was terrible and gives me chills as well.

As far as the autographs go, when Dave pitched for San Diego, we were in CA to catch him pitch one night. After the game I met him outside the players exit and while we were walking to the car, some young kids asked for his autograph so he signed it and gave it to me.....and I signed it (LOL). That kid to this day wonders who the hell that guy was that signed his ball! -
