New guy with a few P90x questions
-
fan_from_texasWe decided to go with P90, instead of P90X, largely because we were concerned about the time commitment for P90X. We're 12 days in so far, and we're seeing good progress--I'm down 8 lbs already and my clothes are already looser. The P90 itself isn't a bad workout, albeit a little monotonous. But it's shorter than P90, which really helps with scheduling it in.
So far, so good. -
birddog23I have a question for those who have done P90X. Im about to create a hybrid schedule between Insanity, Asylum, and P90X. My only issue is that I have not done P90X yet. So my question for you guys is between the four strength workouts of Chest and Back, Shoulders and Arms, Back and Biceps, and Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps which one do you like the most and which do you like the least.
Im looking to use probably 2 out of the 4. -
Raw Dawgin' it
Chest and Back is a must. I'd also do back and biceps.birddog23;797527 wrote:I have a question for those who have done P90X. Im about to create a hybrid schedule between Insanity, Asylum, and P90X. I think the shoulders and arms one is ok, i don't think it has enough sets of each exercise. Also, your back is a big muscle so i suggest getting two back workouts in -
BR1986FBChest & back was my favorite. Gives you a "Superman-like" pump.
Least fav was probably either shoulder/bi/tri or chest/shoulders/tri's. Whichever one they put the "Side Tri Rise" in the middle is the one I don't like. That's (side tri rise) about a worthless friggin exercise. Used to like it but changed my mind. -

I would do one set for 3 weeks then switch. Sure some of the workouts are better than others but it is still benificial to switch it up. -

If you're only going to use two, I would suggest chest & back along with shoulders & arms the first 4 weeks (assuming a 12 week hybrid). That way you are hitting all major "above the waist" bodyparts. Your legs, I'm sure, will get enough torture from the Insanity & Asylum workouts.birddog23;797527 wrote:I have a question for those who have done P90X. After 4 weeks, switch it to Chest, Shoulders & Triceps along with Back & Biceps and you'll still be hitting all muscle groups without skipping one.
Final 4 weeks do C&B along with Shoulders & Arms in weeks 9 & 11 with CS&T along with B&B in weeks 10 & 12. -

I do the back and legs disc, but I sub in pushups between the sets of back and legs. I then will do the shoulders and arms another day. Here is what I figured out to do for the perfect week for me when time allows:
Sun: 3-6 mile Run in the morning; Chest, Back, Legs at night.
Mon: Insanity Plyo at noon.
Tue: Insanity Power at noon; Shoulders and Arms at night.
Wed: Swim a mile in morning
Thr: Bike 20-30 miles in morning, Yoga and Pilates at night.
Fri: Insanity Cardio at noon. -
birddog23Thanks for the input guys, a lot of good info!

That is a lot of training and cardio. Are you training for something specific or just for physique? -

I'm ten days away from an olympic distance triathalon. Again, that's a perfect week for me. I've adjusted it a bit for the next two weeks. Gonna take a 38 mile ride in the morning. -
fan_from_texasQuick update: I'm about 35 days in to P90. I've dropped 16 lbs (from 200 down to 184) and 4 inches off my waist. I look and feel much better. None of my clothes fit anymore, and I'll probably end up shelling out $1,000 by the end of this to rebuild my wardrobe.
Great program, great results so far. My target weight (for a 6' frame) is right at 175, which is about where I was when I finished college. -

Nice ! $1000 is a small price to pay for good health. -

Nice work.
I just started round two of Insanity today. After the first round I was able to drop about 12lbs which put me under 200 for the first time in years. I have been able to maintain since round 1 with running along with a P90/weight workout that I found.
Side note: I updated my Insanity workout area by adding a wrestling mat. I also put a mirror on the wall so that I keep an eye on my form. I didnt realize how stupid I look when I do 1-2-3 Heismans -

I have a feeling I look like a freshmen going thru two-a-days for fall football during Insanity. -
OneBuckeyeI am done with my outdoor cross fit class. I have lost a few more lbs. Down around 172ish. (Same as CCRunner!!!) Way down in bodyfat, although I haven't got the BF tester yet since it was sold out when I went to buy and I haven't checked back. I have been doing a 5x5 deadlift once a week for the past 3 weeks along with the outdoor crossfit stuff. Any way I need to figure out a new workout schedule. I don't have a bench or squat rack but I have a 300lb weight set in the basement I use for deadlifts. I have P90x as well and things needed for that. I was thinking about doing some tabata sprints at the park today but not sure what else to do if anything.
-
BR1986FBYou should be able to find a flat bench somewhere cheap.
-
SonofanumpJust crushed shoulders and arms. Diamonds of gold!

fan_from_texasToday is day 90 for me. I'll get final measurements later today, but I went from a very soft 200 to a pretty solid 174.6 as of this morning. I look great and feel great. I went from dying in the phase I-II stuff to pounding out III-IV (yesterday, I did 118 push-ups, compared to 30ish when I started).
Great results. None of my clothes fit now. I've lost almost 6 inches off my waist. -

SonofanumpI might be moving back to a lifting 3 days a week routine. Did chest and back today for the first time in a long time = 263.

That's excellent, FFT! I'm in my 3rd week of P90X and I'm already seeing improvement.fan_from_texas;871049 wrote:Today is day 90 for me. sejShe's getting enormous! We're still adjusting to me being home all the time, but we're starting to get more of a routine. Even her grumpy days aren't all that bad, so I feel really lucky to have such an easy going baby. Of course, I blame her for me needing to do P90X
-
Con_AlmaGreat to hear. Enjoy each phase of maturity. Soon she'll be asking for keys to the car!
